I have been Active Duty in the Air Force for four years now and currently serve as an E-5. I have been stationed in Oklahoma and currently serve in Japan. I have been on deployment to Qatar as well as multiple TDYs across the world. I apply for this scholarship because I intend on becoming an officer through the Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program 2025. This would put me through ROTC at a nursing college for two years, and then a 6 year service commitment. Serving in the military has been the most defining experiences of my life. I grew up in a devoutly Catholic home, with 7 sisters and 4 brothers. My father owned a construction company that although made him money, was very expensive. I knew my options were limited. However, from the moment I left home at 18 and joined the Air Force, I knew that I found a new purpose. The Bible verse Isaiah 6:8 resonates with me: "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'". Looking back I have no doubt I made the right choice. My commitment to service is deeply rooted in my faith. This verse encapsulates my willingness to answer the call, to step forward when others might hesitate, and to dedicate my life to a cause greater than myself. The Air Force has also taught me the importance of leadership. As an E-5, I’ve had the privilege of leading and mentoring younger airmen, helping them navigate the challenges of military life while striving to be the best version of myself. This means I am there for them when it’s time to submit award packages, and recommend them for promotions. I am also there for them when they get a flat tire, go through a divorce, or are simply sick. Being across the world from our homes, we have become each other's family. I take pride in taking care of the military’s greatest asset, its people. As I look toward the future, my goal is to continue my service in the Air Force for the full 20 years, retiring as an officer who has dedicated their life to the defense of our country. The opportunity to attend nursing college through ROTC is a crucial step toward achieving this goal. However, with my Tuition Assistance benefits fully exhausted, I am relying on a scholarship to complete the necessary prerequisites for this program. This scholarship would not only allow me to continue my education but also enable me to fulfill my commitment to serve as both a nurse and a leader in the Air Force.
