Being alone in a country in which you don't know the first language is scary. Terrifying. With sixty dollars in his pocket, sleeping on a park bench and not knowing where his next meal would come from. In two sentences I've summed up what my fathers' first three months in the U.S. looked like. Working 12-hour shifts seven days a week to provide for my pregnant mother who would arrive soon later. Today, my parents own a successful construction business and have raised three boys all without knowing the native language. I have hopes of one day owning a successful business and starting a non-profit organization. These dreams didn't just pop into my brain. Luis and Gloria Torres are the sole reason I think the way I do. Their determination and grit to better themselves in an unfortunate situation was and always will be inspiring. My passion for business comes from watching my father go door to door offering his services. Asking my brothers and me to work on job proposals because he could not word his thoughts successfully. From them, I learned that ninety percent of success is just showing up. Starting when you're not ready and likely to fail but willing to learn. I use my parents' hard work as motivation. I cannot fathom the idea of being in a scenario where I don't give something my best effort. When they sacrificed their everything to give me my everything, I owe it to them to succeed and give back to them their reaped rewards.
