Bold Mentor Scholarship
During my time in high school, I decided to join the tutoring session offered by the National Junior Honor Society. While participating as a tutor in this program, I started to mentor some underclassmen students who needed more help with school work. While I was still helping them with their homework, I was also helping them through some of their struggles in their personal life. During this time, I realized how much it meant to these students to have someone to talk to about how they felt about the assignments.
Being able to help a person realize that someone was able to listen to their stories was very impactful. To me, that meant more than helping with their academic work. I want to be able to tell others to take away that their stories are essential. Their perspective can be shared with others, and someone is willing to listen.
Through being able to participate in this simple tutor program offered by my school, I was able to help even a couple of people feel that their stories and life experiences were important. That is the impact I wish to have on more people.
