My interest was first piqued in nursing when my dad noticed how patient I was with my brother who has autism and told me that I should go into a career that involves being patient with difficult people. I then began exploring the realm of careers that involve this. I particularly am interested in nursing because I can save lives, be there for people in need, and advocate for my patients. At the end of the day, I think we all want to look back and see the change we’ve made in the world. I don’t want to be a footprint in the sand that gets washed away by the ocean waves. I want to make a lasting impact through my career. As a nurse, I will save lives which won’t only impact the individual, it will also impact their loved ones. Through this, I will love people of all different backgrounds. People come into the care of a nurse for a variety of reasons. But as a nurse, I will see many people in need, whether that be physically, emotionally, or mentally. I will be there for those people and help them. I want them to know that while they’re in my care they are loved and cared for. I want them to be able to recognize their inherent value and how much they matter especially if they are dealing with suicidal thoughts. I won’t just be a nurse but a friend. I will be the cause of positive turning points in my patients’ lives. I will admit our healthcare system isn’t perfect. In 2023, one in five adults in America had a healthcare claim denied. As a nurse, I will advocate for my patients so that they can receive much needed care. Although I cannot fix this problem alone, I will drop the pebble in the water to slowly but surely make a difference. I am servant-hearted. I am passionate about serving others through humility and love. As a nurse, I will make a difference in my patients, in their loved ones, and in the world. By saving lives, being there for my patients, and advocating on their behalf, I will make a lasting impact. I can also apply my skill of being patient with difficult people and show even the most cranky patients, a love that will change their lives. I will be the footprint in the sand that withstands the ocean waves. I specifically want to work in a hospital. I don’t want the every day checkups, I want the chaos and the opportunity to make a real difference. At this point in my life, I don’t know if I want to go on to be a nurse practitioner or a registered nurse, but it is definitely still on the table for me.
