Bio

I am a passionate Theatre Artist with over three years of theatre arts experience, both in the acting world and the technical world. I have done over ten shows in my theatre career, all while maintaining a 3.8 GPA and taking all Pre-AP/AP classes I can at my level. While I am only currently a sophomore in high school, I have been very passionate about getting into a good college since I was 12, while I do actively work with the church, I am not interested in attending a Christian-based college. Along with theatre, I am a current member of my high school's concert choir and the poetry competition team captain. I have acting and technical theatre resumes available via email (EllyanaSchroeder@gmail.com) if needed.

I want to pursue history because it is more than memorizing dates and people's names; it is about telling the stories of people who shaped how our world functions today. I am a theatre artist, meaning I get to tell the stories of many types of people through acting and sound design. I also get to continue to tell the stories of those who have suffered throughout history. The first thing we learn when learning about history in school is that we teach history to never let it be repeated. The main goal of doing shows about sensitive topics is to spread awareness of discrimination throughout history to hopefully prevent it from happening again. I am currently working on a show called "Trojan Women" for our One Act Play competition in March, and I have been given the honour to be the Dramaturge, which is the person who does historical research for the show, to help put it into perspective for the actors, set and costume designer. I've already begun researching for the show, working on a PowerPoint to send to my Drama teacher. I've always enjoyed doing historical research, whether it was for a paper, or just for fun. Half of the time you'll find me looking at an article or a research page on the Dyalatov Pass Incident, the Romanov Family, or The Trojan War. Since I was in middle school, I've read books based on historical events like the Chernobyl disaster and the Holocaust so much so that I have a full shelf dedicated to my books on World War Two. I've always had a passion for history and studying historical events thoroughly and from all angles to tell a story correctly. I knew from probably my middle school years that I loved history, and I always knew that I wanted to pursue history professionally. While my career goals have changed, my interest in history never faded. When I was much younger, I wanted to become a teacher and teach history at the middle school level. When I entered high school, I became fascinated with the theatre world, specifically being able to fully immerse myself in the world of the show I was working on. A few months into being a part of the varsity theatre class in my high school, my Drama teacher mentioned that with my interest in history, I could become a Dramaturg, and also that not many people became Dramaturgs so I had a strong possibility of finding work immediately. From then on, I knew what I wanted to be when I graduated college. In conclusion, I love history because I get to tell the stories of many different people and groups and their importance in the grand scheme of the world as a whole.

I want to pursue theatre to tell stories. I want to tell the stories of people going through hardships and the best times of their lives. I was a part of a show last year that told the story of a young girl who was corrupted by the propaganda in her country to give up the very thing she loved the most—her sister. I want to be able to tell the stories of many people who have been oppressed, killed, and have suffered great losses for something they believe in. I want to major in theatre to help tell their stories and share the lives and legacies of many people. I also want to major in theatre because it is a place where I feel safe to express who I am. I have made more connections to people through theatre then I have in my own family. Theatre has helped me through some of the roughest times in my life and has been the cause of some of the best times of my life. I want to pursue theatre because it is who I am at my core.
