    Dwight "The Professor" Baldwin Scholarship
My name is Elli Paulson, and I am a rising sophomore at Gonzaga University majoring in Psychology. I am applying for the Dwight "The Professor" Baldwin Scholarship to help support my academic journey. Overcoming dyslexia has been a significant part of my life, and it has shaped my career goals in many ways. Growing up with dyslexia was challenging. Reading and writing took me longer than my peers, and I often felt frustrated. However, I have always maintained a positive attitude and have used very few accommodations. I do not let dyslexia identify me or limit what I can achieve. Instead, it has taught me resilience and perseverance. These qualities have been essential in my academic success, as demonstrated by my 3.83 high school GPA. My interest in psychology stems from my experiences with dyslexia. I want to understand how the brain works and how different learning disabilities affect people. I believe that by studying psychology, I can help others who face similar challenges. I want to become a clinical psychologist and work with children and adults with learning disabilities. I want to provide them with the support and tools they need to succeed, just as I have. This scholarship would be a tremendous help to me. It would allow me to focus more on my studies and less on financial concerns. College is expensive, and every bit of financial support makes a difference. With this scholarship, I can invest more time in my coursework and extracurricular activities related to my field of study. For example, I am eager to participate in research projects and internships that will give me hands-on experience in psychology. In addition to my academic pursuits, I am involved in various activities at Gonzaga University. I am a member of the Psychology Club, where we discuss current research and volunteer in the community. I also volunteer at the local community center, helping children with their homework. These experiences have further solidified my desire to work in the field of psychology and have shown me the impact I can have on others' lives. Receiving the Dwight "The Professor" Baldwin Scholarship would not only ease my financial burden but also validate my hard work and determination. It would be an acknowledgment of the obstacles I have overcome and the goals I am striving to achieve. I am committed to making a difference in the lives of those with learning disabilities, and this scholarship would bring me one step closer to that goal. Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and am determined to make the most of my education at Gonzaga University. With your support, I am confident that I can achieve my career goals and make a positive impact in the field of psychology.
    Holden William Bettis Memorial Scholarship
Beginning a journey through the realms of psychology at Gonzaga University is more than just a career choice for me; it's a heartfelt calling that resonates with my core values and aspirations. My passion for psychology isn't rooted in textbooks or lectures alone, but in the profound belief that understanding the human mind and behavior is the key to unlocking the potential within each of us. This belief isn't just an academic interest; it's a commitment to contributing positively to the world, one individual at a time. My love for psychology all started with this curiosity about what makes people tick. From observing my friends and family to watching the intricate dynamics in various social settings, I found myself drawn to the complexities of human emotions and behaviors. This curiosity soon evolved into a deeper desire to not just understand but to help. To offer a listening ear, a guiding hand, and a supportive presence to those navigating through life's challenges. Gonzaga University, with its strong emphasis on social justice and community service, felt like the perfect place to nurture this passion. It's not just about the rigorous academic training; it's about being part of a community that values the dignity of every individual and is committed to making a tangible difference in the world. At Gonzaga, I see an opportunity to delve into the depths of psychology, equipped with the knowledge and skills to bring about positive change, both within individuals and in broader society. My drive to help others isn't just a career goal; it's a personal mission. I've always been that friend who's there in the middle of the night, ready to offer support during a crisis or just lend an ear. This inherent compassion, combined with a genuine interest in the wellbeing of others, steers me towards a career as a counselor or therapist. I see this path not just as a profession but as a vocation to assist others in navigating their challenges, enabling them to emerge stronger, more resilient, and more in tune with their authentic selves. Working with children, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. There's something incredibly rewarding about helping young minds understand and express their emotions, overcome obstacles, and build a strong foundation for their future. Children are remarkably resilient, but they also need guidance, understanding, and support to thrive. I envision myself playing a pivotal role in providing that support, helping them to navigate their formative years with confidence and emotional intelligence. As I embark on this journey, my commitment to paying it forward is unwavering. Psychology, at its core, is about connection, empathy, and empowerment. By becoming a therapist or counselor, I aim to create a ripple effect of positive change. Each individual I help will, in turn, impact others around them, fostering a more compassionate, understanding, and resilient community. This isn't just a career; it's a way of life. A commitment to lifting others up, to healing, and to spreading kindness and understanding in a world that desperately needs it. In essence, my choice to pursue psychology at Gonzaga University is driven by a deep-seated passion for making a difference, one life at a time. It's about harnessing the power of empathy, knowledge, and compassion to help others become the best versions of themselves. And in doing so, I believe we can all contribute to a kinder, more understanding world.
