Bio

Inspired by her fondness for silly socks and her desire to make a difference, Elle, now 18, introduced Socks4Seniors. Through fundraising efforts she gathers funds to purchase vibrant socks paired with heartfelt notes, aiming to uplift spirits across assisted living facilities nationwide. For what seems like such a simple thing has resulted in an overwhelming positive impact to communities, both near and far. To date, Elle has sent out over 6,500 pairs of silly socks across 49 of the 50 states with a goal to hit all 50 by years end and many have states have been touched more than once. Elle also keeps in touch with some of the seniors she's met adding to her ongoing list of penpals. Since, sadly over time, residents in these places change, there's always a need. And current studies claim that of the 1.25m living in nursing facilities, only ~40% of those receive visitors and that has been eye opening and shows how this small amount of Elle’s time can make such a difference.

      Socks4Seniors — Founder, operator of non-profit
      2021 – Present
    Deborah Thomas Scholarship Award
Making a meaningful impact on the world has always been my guiding motivation. I believe that real change begins with small, thoughtful actions, and I plan to carry this mindset into my career—whether through business leadership, social entrepreneurship, or nonprofit innovation. I want to create a career that blends strategy with service, and one that uplifts the overlooked and unheard voices in our communities. One of the most formative experiences shaping my career aspirations has been founding Socks4Seniors, a nonprofit that combats senior loneliness in nursing homes through the simple but powerful gesture of sending whimsical socks and handwritten notes. Since launching, I’ve raised over $15,000 and distributed 7,000+ pairs of socks across the country. Each note I write is a message of warmth, reminding recipients they are seen and valued. This work has deepened my understanding of how small, targeted initiatives can have a large emotional impact—and how compassion can scale when combined with organization, creativity, and purpose. Socks4Seniors sparked in me a passion for social impact through leadership, and it’s helped me realize that I want to build a career where I can use business as a force for good. My goal is to study business and eventually work in a field where I can lead projects, launch ventures, or advise companies on how to grow while staying socially responsible. Whether I become a nonprofit founder, a social impact consultant, or a CEO with a mission-driven company, I want to keep people and purpose at the center of everything I do. I’ve also seen the power of mentorship and empowering others through my work helping my younger brother with his project, Crop Kindness Connect, which redirects surplus homegrown produce to those facing food insecurity. Guiding him through the ups and downs of building a project from the ground up has reinforced the idea that creating change isn’t a solo act—it’s about lifting others as you climb. As I grow in my own career, I want to pay this mentorship forward by encouraging and supporting young innovators and changemakers to follow their ideas and take action in their own communities. At the same time, I know that making a lasting impact will require hard work, grit, and continuous learning. Despite having learning differences, I’ve maintained a 3.9 GPA, balanced extracurricular commitments, and dedicated myself to my sport—golf—which I will continue to play at the collegiate level. Golf has taught me patience, discipline, and resilience—qualities I’ll need to lead effectively and build something that truly matters. Ultimately, I aspire to lead with empathy, solve real problems, and create spaces where people feel empowered, included, and inspired. I believe that meaningful careers are built on a foundation of service—and I plan to carry that belief into everything I do, using my education, experiences, and values to leave a lasting, positive mark on the world.
    Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship
Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship Essay Community service has always been more than a way to give back—it's how I connect with others and find purpose. It has taught me that selflessness isn’t about grand gestures, but about consistent, compassionate actions that build relationships and foster connection. Two experiences that best reflect how I embody selflessness are founding my nonprofit, Socks4Seniors, and mentoring my younger brother on his own initiative, Crop Kindness Connect. But just as important to me is my commitment to the game of golf, which has shaped my work ethic, resilience, and long-term goals—including my upcoming journey as a collegiate athlete. I founded Socks4Seniors to combat loneliness among the elderly, particularly those in nursing homes. With fewer than 40% of long-term care residents receiving regular visitors, I saw an opportunity to bring comfort and joy through a small but meaningful gesture: whimsical socks and handwritten notes. What began as a simple donation project has grown into a nationwide nonprofit that has delivered over 7,000 pairs of socks and raised more than $15,000. The notes I write are often the highlight—many recipients write back, forming pen-pal relationships that have become deeply meaningful to me. These connections have shown me how even a lighthearted gift, paired with heartfelt words, can make someone feel seen and valued. I’ve also embraced selflessness by mentoring my younger brother on his grassroots initiative, Crop Kindness Connect, which addresses food insecurity by connecting gardeners with surplus produce to families in need. I help him organize volunteers, manage outreach, and navigate challenges. More importantly, I offer encouragement, reminding him that real change starts with small, consistent actions. Watching him grow into a leader has been one of my proudest experiences and a reminder that uplifting others is one of the most meaningful ways to lead. These projects have instilled a deep understanding that service, like personal growth, happens when no one is watching. I’ve carried this same mindset into my dedication to golf. Despite navigating learning differences, I’ve maintained a 3.9 GPA while committing myself fully to the game I love. Golf has taught me patience, discipline, and mental toughness—the same qualities that drive my community work. It’s not always easy balancing practice, school, and service, but I’ve learned how to stay focused on long-term goals, even when the process is slow or challenging. This fall, I will fulfill a dream: playing collegiate golf. Competing at the D3 level comes without an athletic scholarship, making outside support like the Samuel D. Hartley Memorial Scholarship incredibly meaningful. As I take on the challenge of balancing academics, athletics, and service, I’m committed to continuing my work with Socks4Seniors, expanding its reach, and inspiring others to create change in their own communities. I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because I have demonstrated a sustained commitment to selfless leadership—both on and off the course. Through community service and golf, I’ve learned to lead with heart, rise through setbacks, and uplift others. With your support, I will continue making a positive impact while pursuing excellence as a student-athlete and community advocate.
Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
The Biggest Life Lesson I’ve Learned Through Golf The biggest life lesson I’ve learned through golf is that progress doesn’t always come quickly, and growth often happens when no one is watching. Golf has taught me the power of patience, self-discipline, and inner resilience—qualities that I will carry with me into every part of my future. Golf isn’t a sport where you can rely on pure athleticism or emotion to succeed. It demands focus, precision, and above all, mental strength. Some days, despite all the hours I’ve spent on the range, my swing feels off, or the putts won’t drop. Early in my journey, this frustrated me. I used to think success was supposed to come faster if you worked hard enough. But golf has a way of humbling you—it forces you to learn that growth takes time and that setbacks are part of the process. Over time, I stopped measuring my success by scorecards alone and started valuing the quiet victories: how I responded to a bad round, how I handled pressure, or how I supported a teammate even when I was struggling myself. As someone who also navigates learning differences, I’ve found that the lessons I’ve learned through golf have directly supported my academic and personal growth. Like with golf, school hasn’t always come easily to me. It takes extra time and effort to stay organized and focused, especially when juggling school with golf tournaments and practice. But the mental endurance I’ve developed on the course has helped me stay calm during tough exams and confident when facing academic challenges. It’s also helped me maintain a 3.9 GPA, not because everything comes naturally, but because I’ve learned how to persevere when it doesn’t. One of the most powerful things golf has taught me is how to stay grounded and focused when things go wrong. In life, just like on the course, not everything goes according to plan. You can hit a perfect drive and still land in a divot. You can prepare for months and still miss the cut. But how you respond in those moments—whether you reset and move forward or let it define you—says everything. I’ve learned to approach these moments with patience and perspective, knowing that every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow. In the future, I plan to use these lessons as a foundation for everything I do. Whether I’m continuing to lead my nonprofit Socks4Seniors, playing college golf, or building a career centered around service and leadership, I’ll rely on the mental toughness, resilience, and integrity golf has instilled in me. I’ll continue to show up, keep improving, and support those around me—even when the path isn’t easy. Golf has been more than a sport for me—it’s been a mirror, a teacher, and a guide. It’s shown me who I am under pressure, and more importantly, who I want to become. I plan to take that quiet strength with me wherever I go.
PrimePutt Putting Mat Scholarship for Women Golfers
I love golf because it’s a game that constantly challenges me to grow—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Every round is different, every shot demands focus, and every mistake offers a lesson. Golf has taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of staying composed under pressure. But beyond the technical side of the game, I enjoy the quiet confidence it builds, the moments of clarity it brings, and the relationships it’s helped me form. It’s a sport that rewards hard work and humility—and it’s become a central part of who I am. As a female golfer, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges. One of the most consistent is simply being underestimated. Whether it’s at the driving range, in tournaments, or during casual rounds, I’ve experienced moments where my abilities were doubted—before I even stepped up to the tee. It can be frustrating when others assume I don’t hit long or play competitively just because I’m a girl. But rather than letting it discourage me, I use it as fuel to prove what I can do. And trust me when I proudly say I can outdrive plenty of men :). Another challenge has been the limited access to competitive opportunities compared to male golfers. In some areas, boys’ teams are larger, have more resources, or are prioritized when it comes to practice facilities and tee times. I’ve had to fight for equal playing time, make my presence known, and be a strong advocate for myself and other girls in the sport. These experiences have made me more assertive, confident, and aware of the importance of speaking up—not just for myself, but for future female golfers, too. There’s also the pressure to constantly “prove” that I belong. While some male athletes are immediately seen as serious competitors, I’ve had to earn that recognition again and again. This has pushed me to train harder, improve my mental game, and stay consistent under pressure. It’s also made me mentally tougher—I’ve learned to block out distractions, focus on my swing, and let my performance speak for itself. Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade my experience as a female golfer for anything. It’s made me a more determined and self-assured person. I’ve also found an incredible community of other girls who share my passion, and together, we support and motivate each other. We celebrate our wins, learn from our losses, and work together to grow the game for future generations of female athletes. One of my proudest moments was qualifying for a major tournament after months of intense preparation. I remember the nerves, the early mornings, and the pressure—but I also remember how calm I felt walking down the fairway, knowing I had earned that spot. Golf has given me those moments of pride, independence, and confidence that I carry with me everywhere I go. In the end, I love golf because it’s more than a sport—it’s a lifelong journey. It’s a game of character, where integrity matters just as much as talent. And as a female golfer, I’m proud to be part of a new generation proving that we belong, we compete, and we thrive on and off the course.
Electric Cycle Studio Student Athlete Scholarship
As a student-athlete, my journey has been defined by dedication, perseverance, and a deep love for the game of golf. Balancing academics with athletics hasn’t always been easy—especially as someone who learns differently—but it has shaped me into a more focused, resilient, and determined person both on and off the course. Golf has been my passion for as long as I can remember. It’s a sport that challenges not just your physical skill, but your mental strength and patience. I’ve committed countless hours to practice, early morning workouts, and weekend tournaments, always striving to improve my game. But what has made my path unique is balancing that athletic commitment with the realities of managing a learning difference. I’ve had to work twice as hard in the classroom to stay on top of my coursework, advocate for myself, and stay organized in a way that works for me. Despite the challenges, I’ve maintained a 3.9 GPA, and that academic success is something I’m incredibly proud of. This balance has taught me the true meaning of resilience. There have been days when I’ve felt overwhelmed, when I’ve come home from a tournament and still had hours of studying ahead. But through it all, I’ve learned that perseverance means showing up—even when it’s tough. It means staying committed to your goals and believing in your ability to grow through effort. Golf has instilled in me a sense of discipline, and school has taught me how to be resourceful and self-aware. One of my biggest dreams is to play golf at the collegiate level, and I’m incredibly proud to have the opportunity to do just that. I’ve worked hard to earn a spot on a Division III team, and while it doesn’t come with an athletic scholarship, it’s a chance to continue doing what I love while also earning my degree. That said, the financial side of college is a real challenge. Because Division III schools don't offer athletic scholarships, every academic or merit-based scholarship I receive plays a huge role in making this dream a reality. I know that balancing academics and golf in college will be even more demanding, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. With practices, travel, classes, and studying, I’m not sure I’ll have the time to take on a job during the school year. But I’m up for the challenge. I’ve already learned how to manage my time, prioritize my responsibilities, and push through difficult moments. I also know that being part of a team will give me the support and accountability I need to succeed. Teamwork is another value I hold close. Even though golf is an individual sport in many ways, being part of a team has taught me how to uplift others, communicate clearly, and lead by example. I carry that same team mindset into group projects and school clubs, always willing to listen, collaborate, and contribute. Ultimately, being a student-athlete has shaped my character in ways that go far beyond grades or scores. It’s taught me how to fight for my goals, embrace challenges, and stay committed to what matters most. With the help of this scholarship, I’ll be able to keep pursuing both my education and my dream of playing competitive golf, knowing I have the support I need to succeed.
    Female Athleticism Scholarship
From the outside, Taekwondo might look like a series of sharp kicks and disciplined forms—but for me, it has been a source of power, identity, and resilience. I’ve trained in martial arts for years and now serve as an instructor for young children in a program called Little Dragons. Every punch I throw and every class I teach has helped me build more than just physical strength—it’s helped me develop confidence, balance, and perseverance in a world that often expects women to step aside rather than step up. Taekwondo is a male-dominated sport. I’ve sparred with boys who underestimated me, worked under instructors who doubted my ability, and trained in dojangs where I was one of the only girls. But instead of being discouraged, I’ve used those moments to fuel my drive. Every time I showed up with discipline, every time I broke a board, and every time I led a class of young students—girls and boys alike—I was proving that strength isn’t gendered. It’s earned. Balancing this intense training with school and life has made me a master of time management and focus. While some of my peers unwind after school, I go straight to practice or lead a class of energetic five-year-olds. Then it’s home to finish homework and prepare for tests. I’ve learned to work efficiently, prioritize mental health, and show up 100% in every role I take on—whether it’s student, athlete, or mentor. The discipline I’ve learned from martial arts has translated directly into my academic and personal life, helping me become not just a better athlete, but a more capable and confident young woman. This balance has also given me perspective. As the founder of Socks4Seniors, a nonprofit that donates colorful socks to seniors in nursing homes, I often use my evenings and weekends to coordinate donations, write letters, and engage my community. The multitasking and leadership skills I’ve developed through sport have empowered me to take on challenges that once seemed too big. And when I helped mentor my younger brother in launching Crop Kindness Connect, his nonprofit that combats food insecurity, I leaned on the same self-assurance and organizational skills I’ve built through balancing school, sport, and service. Being a female athlete in a male-dominated sport has taught me that I don’t need to be loud to be powerful, but I do need to be present, consistent, and unapologetically myself. I’ve learned to take up space—physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Whether I’m standing tall on the mat or speaking up in a classroom discussion, I’ve grown into a young woman who leads with quiet strength and bold purpose. As I look toward the future, I know these experiences have prepared me to step into leadership roles in any field—whether it’s business, nonprofit work, or beyond. I’ve already proven to myself that I belong in every room I enter, even when I’m the only girl there. And that belief—that I have a place and a voice—makes me unstoppable.
    Jorge Campos Memorial Scholarship
Growing up, I was taught that small acts of kindness could ripple out to create lasting change. That belief inspired me to found Socks4Seniors, a nonprofit organization that donates fun, colorful socks to residents of nursing homes across the country. What began as a local project with a few dozen pairs has grown into a nationwide movement, with over 7,000 pairs of socks donated so far. I wanted to brighten the days of those who are so often forgotten. Something as simple as a vibrant pair of socks can make someone smile, spark conversation, and remind them that they matter. The work I’ve done through Socks4Seniors reflects the spirit of Jorge Campos (known as Don Jorge) whose life was rooted in community service, joy, and uniting others through compassion. I sought to build more than just a donation network; I wanted to create a sense of connection between generations. I coordinated drives at local schools, partnered with community organizations, and even organized handwritten note campaigns from students to seniors. Seeing the reactions of recipients—many of whom hadn’t received visitors in months—reaffirmed my belief in the power of simple, heartfelt gestures. This journey inspired me to help mentor my younger brother as he launched his own nonprofit, Crop Kindness Connect, which focuses on reducing food insecurity by connecting surplus produce with underserved communities and schools. From the early planning stages to nonprofit registration and outreach strategies, I guided him through the complexities of starting a mission-driven organization. More importantly, I shared with him the core values that guided my own journey: leading with empathy, staying grounded in purpose, and always choosing optimism—even when faced with setbacks. Helping my brother build Crop Kindness Connect from the ground up didn’t just make me proud, it taught me the joy of empowering others to lead. In mentoring him, I came to appreciate the importance of service multiplied. When one person gives, they can uplift a community; when they empower others to give, they can start a movement. This dual experience - both building Socks4Seniors and supporting Crop Kindness Connect- has deeply influenced my personal growth. It’s strengthened my belief that leadership should always be rooted in humility and heart. I’ve become more confident in my voice, more resourceful in overcoming challenges, and more committed to a future in which service isn’t a side project, but a lifelong priority. Looking ahead, I hope to pursue a career that blends social impact and strategic leadership, perhaps through nonprofit consulting or social entrepreneurship. Whatever path I take, I will carry with me the values Don Jorge embodied: a relentless commitment to community, a joyful spirit in all things, and a belief that unity is created through acts of love, however small they may seem.
Patricia Lindsey Jackson Foundation - Eva Mae Jackson Scholarship of Education
Faith has always been the foundation of my life, guiding me through every decision, challenge, and opportunity. Whenever I have faced obstacles, I have looked to God for direction, trusting that His plans are far greater than my own. This unwavering faith has shaped not only my personal journey but also my academic pursuits and future aspirations. High school was a particularly challenging time for me. I struggled with learning difficulties that often made academic success feel just out of reach. At times, I felt frustrated and discouraged, wondering if I would ever be able to keep up with my peers. On top of that, I faced bullying and struggled to fit in, which made school an isolating experience. Despite these hardships, my faith remained my anchor. I turned to God in prayer, seeking strength and reassurance that I was not alone. Through these conversations with Him, I found the courage to persevere, knowing that my struggles did not define me but were instead shaping me into the person I was meant to become. Even when I felt unseen or unworthy, I reminded myself that God saw me, loved me, and had a purpose for my life. This understanding led me to focus on something greater than my own challenges, helping others who felt just as invisible as I once did. I have always gravitated toward service work, finding fulfillment in being a source of light for others. Whether it was through volunteering at local shelters, organizing community drives, or supporting causes like Socks4Seniors - a non-profit I started and am very proud of, my heart has always been drawn to making others feel valued and heard. Socks4Seniors, in particular, has been a project close to my heart. It started as a simple initiative to bring warmth and comfort to elderly individuals in nursing homes, many of whom felt forgotten or overlooked. But it became so much more than that. It became an opportunity to remind people that they are seen and loved, that their lives matter. Every time I delivered a pair of silly socks and saw the joy it brought, I was reminded of how God calls us to serve and uplift one another. Through my service work, I have often prayed for the ability to see people the way God sees them—with love, compassion, and grace. This prayer has shaped the way I interact with the world and has reinforced my desire to pursue higher education. I want to continue learning and growing, not just for my own sake, but so that I can be better equipped to make a meaningful impact on others. Education, to me, is more than just a pathway to success; it is a tool that will allow me to serve more effectively, to advocate for those who feel unheard, and to create change in ways that align with God’s purpose for my life. Looking ahead, I trust that God’s plan for me is greater than anything I could envision for myself. No matter what challenges may come my way, I will continue to seek His guidance, knowing that He will direct my path. My faith has carried me through my most difficult moments, and I have no doubt that it will continue to shape my journey in higher education and beyond. Ultimately, my experiences—both the struggles and the triumphs—have reinforced my belief that faith, perseverance, and service are interconnected. I am committed to using my education as a means to uplift others, to bring hope where there is despair, and to remind people that they are never alone. With God at the center of my life, I am ready to embrace whatever lies ahead, trusting in His plan and continuing to walk in faith.
    T's Golf Foundation Scholarship
My grandfather, a proud Vietnam War veteran, has had a profound impact on my life and the way I approach service to others. Growing up, I admired his courage and the sacrifices he made for his country. His stories of service and resilience have inspired me to give back to those who have served, and my involvement with veterans is something I carry close to my heart. One of the most meaningful ways I’ve been able to give back is through my work with PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). As a volunteer caddy, I’ve had the privilege of supporting veterans by introducing them to the game of golf, helping them navigate the course, and learning about their experiences along the way. For many veterans, golf becomes not just a sport, but a form of rehabilitation and community. This experience has taught me invaluable lessons in empathy and the power of sport to bring people together, especially those who’ve given so much in service to our country. I’ve witnessed firsthand how golf can provide veterans with a sense of purpose, healing, and camaraderie. Golf itself has been a passion of mine since I was six years old, and it has shaped me in many ways. The discipline, focus, and perseverance required in the sport mirror the qualities I admire in veterans. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue my golf career at Chapman University, where I plan to compete at the collegiate level. Pursuing golf at Chapman will not only help me grow as an athlete but also allow me to be a positive role model for others, particularly veterans and young people in my community who are looking to find a path through sports. My ultimate goal is to use my platform in golf to continue supporting the veteran community. If awarded the T’s Golf Foundation Scholarship, I would use this opportunity to promote awareness of veterans’ issues and support organizations like PGA HOPE that provide essential resources to those who have served. I believe that sports can create powerful connections, and I would work to integrate veterans' programs into my journey as a student-athlete, whether through hosting charity events, speaking about the importance of supporting veterans, or raising funds for causes that help them transition to civilian life. In conclusion, the T’s Golf Foundation Scholarship would not only support my education and athletic goals at Chapman University but also enable me to continue serving and advocating for veterans. My grandfather’s legacy and my experience with PGA HOPE have shown me how deeply sports can impact lives, and I am excited to continue this work throughout my college career and beyond.

Personal development is vital to me because it encompasses growth in various areas of my life—emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Striving to become the best version of myself means I can better serve my community, be a better friend, daughter, co-worker, and student, contributing positively to the world around me. It’s about understanding my strengths and weaknesses and continuously seeking improvement. One key aspect of my personal development journey is maintaining physical health. Staying active through regular exercise, whether it’s running, swimming, or participating in team sports, helps me build discipline and boosts my energy levels. Physical fitness not only improves my overall well-being but also enhances my mental clarity and resilience. I’ve found that incorporating workouts into my routine allows me to relieve stress, maintain focus, and cultivate a positive mindset. In addition to physical health, I am mindful of my mental well-being. I practice mindfulness techniques, such as meditation and deep-breathing exercises, to stay centered and reduce anxiety. Taking time to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life helps me recharge and fosters a healthier perspective. I also prioritize self-reflection, regularly evaluating my thoughts and emotions to ensure I’m staying aligned with my goals and values. Setting specific, achievable goals is another crucial part of my development. Whether it’s enhancing my leadership skills through workshops or dedicating time to learn new subjects, I actively seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and capabilities. For instance, I've taken on public speaking roles to boost my confidence and communicate more effectively, which is essential for rallying support for initiatives like Socks4Seniors. I prioritize surrounding myself with positive influences—friends, mentors, and community members who inspire and challenge me. Engaging in discussions with these individuals helps me gain new perspectives and encourages me to step outside my comfort zone. I also seek out volunteer opportunities that align with my values, as serving others fosters a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Lastly, I’m learning to embrace failure as a part of the growth process. Each setback teaches me resilience and adaptability, essential traits for personal and professional success. By viewing challenges as opportunities, I can better navigate obstacles and maintain a positive outlook. In summary, personal development is important to me because it equips me to make a meaningful impact in my community and become a more compassionate leader. By focusing on physical health, mental well-being, goal-setting, positive relationships, and resilience, I am committed to evolving into the best version of myself.
    Grace and Growth Scholarship
Reflecting on my high school journey, I am proud of the leadership roles I have taken on, particularly through my nonprofit organization, Socks4Seniors. This initiative was born out of a deep concern for the loneliness and isolation experienced by seniors, especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. My commitment to addressing this issue not only shaped my aspirations but also prepared me to make a meaningful impact in society. Socks4Seniors started with a simple but powerful idea: to provide seniors in long-term care facilities with colorful socks and personalized notes to remind them they are valued and remembered. The pandemic made it painfully clear how many seniors felt forgotten as social interactions dwindled. Motivated by this, I sought to bring joy and comfort into their lives through small gestures. Leading this initiative involved various strategies to engage my community. I utilized social media to share heartfelt stories of seniors receiving our packages, highlighting their reactions and the positive impact of our efforts. By humanizing the cause, I was able to connect with a broader audience, inspiring many to join us in our mission. This narrative not only generated awareness but also fostered a community eager to contribute. In addition to digital outreach, I organized community events, such as golf fundraisers and package assembly days, where volunteers from different backgrounds came together. These events cultivated a sense of camaraderie and allowed participants to engage directly with the cause. Witnessing firsthand the joy that comes from making a difference reinforced my belief in the importance of community service. Through these hands-on experiences, volunteers learned about the significance of addressing senior loneliness and left with a sense of accomplishment and pride. Collaboration played a crucial role in the success of Socks4Seniors. By reaching out to local businesses, schools, and organizations, I formed partnerships that expanded our reach and resources. Many local businesses sponsored events, while schools embraced our message, encouraging students to participate in fundraising and service activities. Engaging younger generations proved particularly rewarding, as I saw them develop empathy and a sense of social responsibility early on. Through these collective efforts, we raised over $15,000 and distributed more than 6,500 pairs of socks and notes. This momentum demonstrated the power of community engagement and collaboration, showing that together, we could create meaningful change. Many individuals who learned about our initiative became passionate advocates, spreading the word within their networks and reinforcing the culture of kindness and respect for our elders. Receiving a scholarship would significantly ease the financial burdens of pursuing higher education, allowing me to focus on my studies and further my dedication to community service. With this support, I could expand Socks4Seniors and explore other initiatives that address social isolation, ensuring that I can continue to make a positive impact in society. Ultimately, my experiences leading Socks4Seniors have instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility towards my community. I have learned that true leadership is about inspiring others to come together for a common cause, and that even the smallest acts of kindness can create ripples of change. I am committed to continuing this work and encouraging others to join me in uplifting the lives of seniors, ensuring they are always remembered and valued. In conclusion, the lessons I’ve learned through my high school experiences have shaped my aspirations and prepared me to make a difference. With the support of this scholarship, I am eager to continue my journey of service, fostering compassion and connection within my community and beyond.

I embody selflessness through my commitment to helping those around me, particularly my family and community. Living with my grandparents has given me a unique opportunity to support my nana as she cares for my grandfather, who is on the liver transplant list. This experience has deepened my understanding of the importance of compassion and service. I regularly assist my nana by watching over my grandfather, which allows her to run errands like picking up prescriptions or visiting the post office. While these tasks may seem routine, they are vital for maintaining their quality of life. By taking on these responsibilities, I help her focus on her own well-being while ensuring my grandfather receives the care he needs. My involvement has taught me the significance of being there for loved ones, especially during challenging times. My nana is not just family; she’s my best friend and the closest thing I’ve found to an angel. Helping her gives me a sense of purpose and strengthens our bond. Whether it's sitting with my grandfather during doctor visits or simply being there for my nana when she needs someone to talk to, I find immense joy in being present for them both. These moments have shaped my character and instilled in me the value of empathy and support. In addition to my family commitments, I founded Socks4Seniors, a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the loneliness experienced by seniors, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative allows me to uplift seniors by providing colorful socks and personalized notes, reminding them they are valued and remembered. I realized that small gestures can make a significant difference in someone’s day. To lead others in this cause, I actively shared my vision through social media, highlighting the heartfelt stories of seniors who received our packages. I organized community events, including fundraisers and volunteer days, where people could come together to assemble packages. These efforts fostered a sense of community and encouraged many to join in, creating a ripple effect of kindness. Through Socks4Seniors, I have not only pursued a cause close to my heart but have also inspired others to care for our elders. Additionally, I have volunteered in local food drives and tutored younger students. These experiences have reinforced my belief that small acts of kindness can inspire others to help as well. Engaging with my community has shown me the impact we can make when we come together for a common purpose. In summary, my selflessness is reflected in my daily actions—whether caring for my grandparents or leading Socks4Seniors. By supporting my nana and grandfather while advocating for seniors in our community, I strive to embody the values of compassion and service that I hold dear. I am committed to continuing this work and inspiring others to join me in making a difference in the lives of seniors, ensuring they are never forgotten and always valued.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship

I remember a specific moment when I was about twelve years old: it was a Saturday morning, and my mom was up before dawn, preparing to leave for her second job. I was still groggy from staying up late studying for a test, but she didn’t hesitate to kiss me on the forehead and remind me to take care of my younger brother. As she left for work, I sat quietly, reflecting on how hard she worked to keep our family afloat. In that moment, I understood what resilience meant—not just surviving, but continuing to give and love despite the odds. This moment has stayed with me, driving both my personal growth and the future I hope to create. Growing up in a single-parent household, I’ve faced many challenges that shaped my character and perspective on life. My mother worked long hours to provide for us, often sacrificing her own needs so that my brother and I could have opportunities she never had. Despite her exhaustion, she never wavered in her support for us. She was our rock, and I saw firsthand how determination, empathy, and hard work could overcome adversity. These values have been ingrained in me, and they guide my aspirations for the future. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned from my upbringing is the significance of empathy. I often found myself stepping up to help my mom with household responsibilities or watching over my siblings when she was working late. In doing so, I realized how interconnected we all are, and how important it is to support one another, especially in difficult times. Growing up with a single parent made me keenly aware of the challenges many others face—especially those from underserved or underprivileged backgrounds. I want to use my experiences to make a difference in the lives of others, offering the kind of support I received from my mother and the community around me. Though I’m still figuring out exactly what career path to take, I am certain that I want to work in a field that allows me to give back to others, particularly those who have experienced hardship. Whether in social services, education, or even public policy, my goal is to use my talents to create opportunities for people who are facing difficult circumstances. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, whether through volunteering or tutoring classmates. This sense of responsibility to make a positive impact is what drives me to pursue a future where I can be a source of support and guidance. I imagine a future where I can work with young people from single-parent or blended families, offering mentorship and educational resources to help them achieve their full potential. I also want to contribute to creating programs that provide financial literacy, job readiness, and emotional support for families who might not have access to those resources. While I don’t know the exact career I’ll pursue, I know that I want to be part of the solution to social inequality and help others navigate challenges with the same perseverance my mother modeled for me. In conclusion, growing up in a single-parent household has shaped my values and fueled my desire to make a difference. It taught me resilience, empathy, and the power of community, and I carry these lessons with me as I pursue my future goals. I may not know what exact career I’ll enter, but I do know that I want to use my talents to help others, to create opportunities, and to uplift those who need it most.

Booker T. Washington's assertion that “Success is measured not by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome” deeply resonates with me and reflects my academic and personal journey. For me, success has always been more about resilience and overcoming personal challenges than about traditional academic accolades. From a young age, I envisioned myself on a picturesque college campus, inspired by a classroom environment where higher education was an expected milestone. Growing up, each classroom was named after a college, with the motto ‘college for certain,’ which fueled my early aspirations. Yet, reality soon set in, and I faced a major setback when a low-scoring assignment prompted me to write in all caps on the top of the page, “I can’t do it. I am dumb and not good enough. I am sorry and will try harder.” This moment marked the beginning of a challenging academic journey, where feelings of inadequacy often overshadowed my achievements. Despite working hard, I felt limited by entrance exam scores and struggled to meet the demanding expectations of my peers. A professional psychoeducational assessment later revealed learning weaknesses and a recent diagnosis of brain demyelination, which shed light on some of my academic hurdles. While initially these findings seemed to validate my fears of never being ‘good enough,’ they also became a catalyst for my determination to redefine success. In 2021, I took a significant step towards this new definition of success by founding ‘Socks4Seniors,’ a nonprofit organization born from my concern for the well-being of seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing that many seniors in care facilities often feel neglected, I started sending colorful socks and personalized notes to bring joy and a sense of being seen. To date, I have reached over 6,500 seniors, forging meaningful connections and brightening their days. 'Socks4Seniors' exemplifies my belief that true success is measured by the positive impact we create, rather than just academic performance. The heartfelt responses and inspiring feedback I’ve received reinforce my conviction that resilience and the ability to make a difference are key indicators of success. I actively share my experiences through panels and podcasts, advocating for a broader understanding of success that includes resilience and impact. As I transition to college, I am aware of the pressures that come with academic achievement, but I remain committed to not letting grades alone define my self-worth. My experiences have shown me that perseverance in the face of adversity is a powerful motivator. Washington’s words remind me that success is not about reaching a certain position but about overcoming obstacles and making a difference. This scholarship will support my continued journey by alleviating financial stress and allowing me to focus on both my academic and philanthropic endeavors. In turn, I plan to pay it forward by mentoring others who face similar challenges, sharing my story, and using my platform to inspire resilience and positive change despite personal challenges or shortcomings. We can't allow our personal obstacles or challenges to serve as an excuse and give up, instead must use them to motivate and propel us forward. I am committed to proving that resilience, determination, and a desire to make a meaningful impact are the true markers of success.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My journey with mental health has been both challenging and enlightening, shaping my beliefs, relationships, and aspirations in profound ways. The decision to leave traditional schooling after my sophomore year and transition to online education was a pivotal moment in my life, driven by the need to prioritize my mental well-being amidst the pressures of academic demands and a harsh social environment. In high school, the pressure to excel academically was immense. Balancing rigorous coursework with extracurricular activities often felt overwhelming, and the constant stress began to take a toll on my mental health. The weight of expectations and the fear of falling short became a heavy burden. At the same time, I was navigating a social landscape fraught with difficulties. The unkindness of certain peers—often manifesting as exclusion or bullying—only compounded the stress, making the school environment increasingly difficult to bear. Recognizing the impact these pressures were having on my mental health, I made the difficult decision to leave my traditional high school. It was a choice driven by a need for a healthier, more manageable environment where I could focus on my well-being without the added stress of a conventional school setting. Transitioning to online schooling was a significant adjustment, but it offered me the flexibility to create a learning environment that suited my needs and allowed me to address my mental health proactively. This period of my life has profoundly impacted my beliefs. I’ve come to understand that mental health is as crucial as physical health, and that it’s okay to take steps to protect and prioritize it. I’ve learned that seeking support and making changes to create a healthier environment are not signs of weakness but of strength and self-awareness. This realization has reshaped my approach to life, reinforcing the importance of self-care and resilience. My relationships have also been deeply influenced by this journey. Through the experience of dealing with mental health challenges, I’ve gained a greater empathy for others who face similar struggles. It has taught me the value of compassion and understanding in relationships. I’ve become more attuned to the needs of those around me and more willing to offer support and kindness, recognizing that everyone’s journey is unique and often invisible to the outside world. In terms of aspirations, this journey has redefined my goals. I am now more motivated to pursue a path that not only aligns with my academic interests but also allows me to contribute positively to the well-being of others. My experiences have sparked a desire to advocate for mental health awareness and support, aiming to create environments where others can find understanding and assistance as I have. For example, I take young girls (preteens) out on the golf course acting as their sounding board more than teaching them golf. I help them with confidence and share my personal journey with them and reassure them they are not alone and even when things seems tough and overwhelming tomorrow is a new day. With social media and the pressures of today it's very easy to get sucked in making bad choices or just having your personal mood and self worth reflect what others think of you when at the end of the day none of this matters. What matters is that when you look in the mirror you can smile back and be proud of who you are as a person and all of the positive impact you've had whether big or small. Whether through future academic endeavors or a career, I hope to continue to make a meaningful impact by promoting mental health and supporting those who face similar challenges. In conclusion, leaving traditional schooling to focus on my mental health has been a transformative experience. It has reshaped my beliefs about the importance of mental well-being, deepened my empathy in relationships, and inspired me to pursue aspirations that contribute to the greater good. This journey has taught me resilience and self-care, and I am committed to using these lessons to foster a supportive and compassionate future for myself and others. And finally I am very sorry about your mom. My nana (the closest thing I've found here on earth to an angel) also lost her mom to suicide when she was pregnant with my dad. I can tell how much it bothers her to this day and I think that's part of what makes her such a special person and great listener. I never got to meet her mom as she passed long before I was born but the good that came from it is my nana and the wonderful person she is and how much I've seen her give back through her compassion and empathy. I aspire to be like her.
    Patrick A. Visaggi Memorial Scholarship
My journey toward a career in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing is deeply personal and shaped by both my background and my experiences. My grandfather's story is a testament to resilience and the power of compassionate care. Born to a sailor in the navy, he was adopted by Dr. Virgil Gianelli, an esteemed Italian doctor who provided free medical services to immigrants in our community. After his biological mother, fearing she could not provide for him, left him at the hospital, he was embraced by this remarkable family who could not have children of their own. This experience underscores the profound impact of empathy and generosity, values that I hold dear and that continue to influence my aspirations. My educational and career goals are centered around becoming a successful marketing professional with a focus on sales. I plan to major in Business Administration with an emphasis on Marketing and Psychology because it offers a strong foundation in both business principles and creative strategies. This combination is crucial for excelling in sales, where understanding consumer behavior and effectively communicating value are key. I’m particularly excited about the prospect of traveling, possibly abroad, to connect with diverse clients and learn from different markets. My education will equip me with the skills needed to analyze market trends, develop impactful marketing campaigns, and build strong relationships. Additionally, courses in psychology and communications will enhance my ability to understand and influence consumer decisions. Ultimately, I aim to work in a role that allows me to combine my passion for building relationships and my drive to achieve results. A pivotal influence on my career path has been my involvement with the Socks4Seniors initiative, a non-profit I founded in 2021. This project aimed to bring cheer to elderly individuals in assisted living facilities by distributing fun, colorful socks. Witnessing the profound impact of my efforts—through the heartfelt letters of gratitude from the seniors—deepened my understanding of empathy and community support. This initiative highlighted the importance of thoughtful actions and reinforced my commitment to making a difference. The lessons from Socks4Seniors are directly applicable to my marketing career. In marketing, understanding consumer needs and building genuine connections are crucial. My experience with the initiative taught me the value of empathy, which is essential when crafting marketing strategies that resonate with diverse audiences. It also underscored the importance of adapting approaches to meet various needs—a vital skill in creating effective marketing campaigns. In ten years, I envision myself thriving in a sales and marketing role that allows me to leverage my skills to drive impactful campaigns. I aim to work for an innovative organization that values creativity and strategic thinking, where I can contribute to cutting-edge solutions and build meaningful relationships with clients and consumers. I aspire to be at the forefront of marketing trends, crafting campaigns that resonate across cultures and drive business success. Beyond my professional aspirations, I am dedicated to giving back to the community and mentoring others. The values of service that I have embraced through personal experiences will guide my leadership and community involvement. I hope to inspire others to pursue their career goals while contributing positively to society. In conclusion, my journey in marketing is shaped by my family and my experiences. The empathy and understanding gained from Socks4Seniors, combined with hardworking and giving nature of my grandfather, are guiding me toward a successful career. I am excited about the future and committed to applying my knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the sales and marketing field and beyond.
