Bio

I have learned a lot in life from how I have grown up. I grew up on a farm with three brothers. Being the only daughter living on a farm has taught me a lot of life lessons. Being the only girl I learned to carry my weight on the farm as well as helping my mom in the house. I have had a lot of responsibilities placed on me and I enjoy living up to them. Life on the farm has taught me to work hard and never give up on tasks I may think are too hard. I have learned that I like to work and I like to accomplish something every single day. I want to do something to make an impact for good in the world. I am not exactly sure what that is yet, but I can’t wait to find out. I have learned that sometimes my greatest desires are not what's best for me. The first year and a half of high school I worked really hard to be on the basketball team. I thought I loved basketball, but because my parents didn’t start me when I was five I was unknown to the coaches. Rather than continuing to work hard for no playing time I decided to try the swim team my sophomore year. From the first practice I knew that this was my sport. I loved being in the water, competing against myself, working hard, and being a part of a team that wasn’t competing against itself for playing time. I would love to be able to swim in college because I take great joy in it. I am beginning my college journey with an open mind knowing that my idea of what I like may not be what I am meant to do.

The community I grew up in has greatly impacted my life and who I am today. I grew up in a smaller farm community where giving up was not an option. Everyone works hard to achieve their goals and become better people. Additionally, my community was very encouraging and supportive of the people around them. I would not have the work ethic I have today if it were not for the community I grew up in. The people around me pushed me to do my best in everything and they still push me to achieve the best I can to this day. The people in my community strive to achieve their goals and go beyond just achieving them. Everyone is hard-working and does not give up when faced with any kind of obstacle. A majority of my community are farmers or have family or friends close to them that farm. Farming can be very difficult and frustrating at times; many different kinds of obstacles may arise that you have no way of preparing for. For example, one year there may be a drought causing your farm to not have the greatest yield. There is nothing you can do to change the weather, all you can do is get the most out of what you have. When farming, you must be hard-working, patient, problem-solving, and determined to overcome the roadblocks that you may be faced with. Being a farmer and growing up surrounded by farmers has helped me grow into the person I am today. Growing up surrounded by people who are good role models and supportive of my goals has helped encourage me to set larger and higher goals for myself. Without the support of many people around me, I may not have even considered making goals for myself. However, due to the strong support from people around me, I push myself to do my best in everything in hopes that it will benefit me greatly in the future. One long-term goal that I have for myself is to get a job that I enjoy and that can support me and my family. However, there is a small obstacle in the way of that goal. I am not sure what I want to do or what my passion is yet. To get by that obstacle I am going to keep my options open and look deeper into anything that is of the slightest interest to me. In the end, without the community that I grew up in I would not have been the same person I am today. My community has taught me how to be a hard worker, have patience, be determined, and never give up. With the support and encouragement from my community, I will be able to achieve many goals that I set.
