    Christopher Charles Owan Memorial Scholarship
Struggling with mental health has been a defining part of my social and academic journey, shaping the way I navigate relationships, education, and my future aspirations. For much of my life, I have faced the silent battles of anxiety and depression, often feeling isolated in my struggles. These challenges have tested my resilience, yet they have also fueled my determination to push forward and ultimately grow stronger. Academically, my mental health struggles have created both obstacles and triumphs. There were times when the weight of anxiety made even the simplest tasks—like participating in class discussions or completing assignments—seem insurmountable. Depression drained me of motivation and energy, making it difficult to see the purpose in my efforts. I faced overwhelming self-doubt, questioning whether I was capable of reaching my goals. The war in my head was relentless—one side telling me to give up, while the other urged me to keep going. Depression stole the love I once had for the things that brought me joy, like dancing and reading. It left me feeling apathetic toward everything because even the smallest effort felt exhausting. Often, I would stay silent, and when I did speak, it drained me completely. Even getting out of bed required immense effort. However, these struggles have taught me the importance of perseverance and self-advocacy. Seeking support from professors, utilizing campus mental health resources, and implementing self-care strategies have been crucial in allowing me to succeed despite these challenges. While I once feared my struggles would hold me back, I now see them as a testament to my resilience. Socially, my journey with mental health has been complex. Anxiety has made it difficult to form new friendships, often leaving me feeling disconnected from those around me. Depression has added another layer, making me retreat into myself, even when I desperately wanted to reach out. There were times when I withdrew from social situations, fearing judgment or rejection. However, through current therapy and personal growth, I have come to understand the power of vulnerability. Opening up about my struggles has allowed me to build deeper, more meaningful connections with those who truly understand and support me. I have learned that I am not alone in my journey, and that realization has been incredibly empowering. These experiences have also influenced my career aspirations. Witnessing the impact of mental health challenges has inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. As I work towards becoming a physician assistant, I am committed to advocating for mental health awareness and providing compassionate care to those who feel unheard or misunderstood. I want to be a source of support for individuals who are struggling, just as others have been for me. The story of Christopher Charles Owan resonates deeply with me, as I understand the profound impact that mental illness can have on individuals and their families. By continuing my education and striving to make a difference in the healthcare field, I hope to contribute to the growing conversation around mental health and help create a future where no one has to suffer in silence. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease my financial burden but also reinforce my commitment to turning my struggles into a source of strength. It would serve as a reminder that my difficult journey has meaning and that my experiences can be used to support and uplift others facing similar battles.
    Second Chance Scholarship
Life is full of challenges, and I have faced my share of adversity. Growing up in a single-parent household, I had to take on responsibilities beyond my years, helping to raise my younger brothers while balancing school and work. These experiences shaped my resilience, but they also instilled in me a deep desire to create a better future for myself and those around me. Now, as a Biological Sciences student pursuing a career as a physician assistant, I am committed to making a meaningful change in my life and using my journey to uplift others. One of the biggest turning points in my life was witnessing my older brother’s struggle with severe health issues. Watching him navigate a complex medical system with limited support left me feeling helpless. I knew then that I wanted to dedicate my life to healthcare—not just to treat patients, but to be an advocate for those who feel unheard. This realization pushed me to pursue higher education while simultaneously enrolling in a medical assistant program to gain hands-on experience. Balancing school, work, and training has not been easy, but every challenge has reinforced my determination to succeed. In addition to my academic pursuits, I work as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, helping run after-school programs that provide children with a safe and engaging environment. I see firsthand the impact of mentorship and support, and I strive to be a positive influence in these young lives. I have also volunteered at community events like the Mesa Marathon and Celebrate Mesa, where I help coordinate activities and assist attendees. Through these experiences, I have learned that change begins with service and that even small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect in the lives of others. Receiving the Second Chance Scholarship would be a pivotal moment in my journey. It would allow me to continue my education without the financial burden weighing me down, bringing me one step closer to my goal of becoming a physician assistant. More importantly, it would reaffirm my belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to prove themselves and create a better future. Just as Nelson Vecchione dedicated his life to giving others a second chance, I plan to do the same by serving patients in underserved communities, advocating for healthcare accessibility, and mentoring aspiring healthcare professionals. The cycle of giving a second chance is powerful. I have been fortunate to receive guidance and support from those who believed in me, and I intend to pay it forward by helping others who face obstacles in their path. Whether it’s through my future work in healthcare, community service, or mentorship, I will ensure that others have the opportunity to change their lives, just as I have been given the chance to change mine. Thank you for your consideration. This scholarship would not only support my educational journey but also empower me to continue the cycle of giving, ensuring that others have the chance to pursue their dreams, no matter their past challenges.
Women in STEM and Community Service Scholarship
Education has always been my pathway to making a difference—for myself and the communities I hope to serve. As a Biological Sciences student with aspirations of becoming a physician assistant, I am passionate about using my education to address healthcare disparities and improve access to quality medical care. My personal experiences, combined with my academic and professional pursuits, have shaped my commitment to both STEM and community service. Growing up, I watched my older brother struggle with severe health issues. The frustration of feeling helpless, unable to fully understand his condition or provide aid, ignited my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. I want to be a source of knowledge and support for families experiencing similar challenges, ensuring that no one feels left in the dark about their loved one's health. This personal connection to medicine drives me to excel academically and seek out hands-on experience that will prepare me for a career dedicated to service. I am currently pursuing a medical assistant program alongside my full-time college coursework and job. This training will allow me to make a tangible impact in healthcare while continuing my education. Through this program, I am gaining critical skills such as patient care, phlebotomy, and medical procedures, which will serve as a strong foundation for my future role as a physician assistant. My goal is to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility, particularly for underserved communities, by providing compassionate and competent medical care. Beyond my academic pursuits, I have always been committed to community service. As a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, I work in after-school programs, providing a safe and engaging environment for children. This job allows me to support students in their personal and academic development, fostering a sense of community and learning. Additionally, I have volunteered at events like the Mesa Marathon and Celebrate Mesa, assisting with event coordination and ensuring that community members receive the support they need. One of the most pressing global issues I am passionate about is healthcare inequity. Many individuals, due to financial or geographical barriers, lack access to quality medical care. As a future physician assistant, I plan to address this issue by working in underserved areas, advocating for patient education, and helping to implement community health initiatives. My experiences have shown me that healthcare is not just about treating illness—it is about empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources to lead healthier lives. This scholarship would not only support my education but also enable me to further my mission of combining STEM expertise with compassionate service. I am committed to using my skills to uplift communities and ensure that everyone—regardless of their background—has access to the medical care they deserve. By equipping myself with a strong STEM foundation and a heart for service, I hope to be part of the solution to some of the most critical healthcare challenges we face today. Thank you for your consideration. I am excited about the opportunity to continue my journey in STEM and community service, striving to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Joe Gilroy "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan" Scholarship
From a young age, I learned the value of planning, perseverance, and adaptability. Growing up in a single-parent household, I took on responsibilities beyond my years, helping raise my younger brothers while striving to build a better future. Witnessing my older brother battle complex health issues left me feeling helpless, but it also fueled my passion for healthcare. My goal is to become a physician assistant (PA) and provide compassionate, high-quality care, particularly in underserved communities. Achieving this requires a well-thought-out plan, careful budgeting, and unwavering dedication. My Plan for Achieving This Goal 1. Education & Experience Pathway Complete a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences (Current Progress) I am currently pursuing a Biological Sciences degree, which provides the strong scientific foundation needed for PA school. Expected Graduation: Spring 2027 Gain Clinical Experience as a Medical Assistant I am currently enrolled in a Medical Assistant (MA) program while attending school full-time. This hands-on experience is essential for PA school applications. Goal: Accumulate at least 2,000 hours of patient care experience. Prepare for & Apply to PA School (Spring 2027) I will take any required entrance exams (GRE/PA-CAT) and apply through the CASPA system. My goal is to attend a program that emphasizes serving underserved populations. Complete PA School & Certification (2027-2029) PA programs last 24-27 months, combining coursework and clinical rotations. After graduation, I will take the PANCE exam to obtain my PA-C certification and become licensed. 2. Financial Plan & Budgeting Achieving my goal requires financial planning. Below is my estimated budget: Undergraduate Education (2023-2027): Tuition: $15,000-$25,000 per year Resources: Scholarships, Federal Grants, Work-Study, Savings PA School (2027-2029): Tuition: $40,000-$100,000 total Resources: Scholarships, Federal Loans, Work as an MA, Savings Licensing & Certification Costs: PANCE Exam: $550 | State Licensure: $300-$500 Resources: Part-time work, Employer Assistance Programs By applying for scholarships like this one, I hope to reduce student loan dependency and focus on my education. Additionally, I plan to work part-time in healthcare while completing my degree to offset costs. 3. Considering All Paths for Success I recognize challenges may arise, so I have backup plans: Alternative Career Path: If PA school acceptance takes longer, I will continue working as a medical assistant or phlebotomist to gain experience. Additional Funding Options: I will apply for National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarships, which support healthcare professionals in underserved areas. Flexibility in Specialization: While I am passionate about primary care, I am open to opportunities in emergency medicine or surgery. Conclusion Like Joe Gilroy, I believe in the power of "Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan." Every step I take is calculated, with my end goal in sight. Becoming a physician assistant is more than a career aspiration—it is a mission to serve and heal. With determination, strategic planning, and financial preparation, I am confident I will achieve this dream. Receiving this scholarship would provide crucial support, helping me focus on becoming the best healthcare provider I can be.
    Bookshelf to Big Screen Scholarship
Books have the power to transport us into new worlds, while films can bring those worlds to life in ways we never imagined. Few adaptations have captured my heart quite like The Hunger Games—a story that not only resonated with me on the page but was elevated to new heights on the big screen. Suzanne Collins’ dystopian world was already vivid in my imagination, but the film adaptation added layers of emotion, visual intensity, and social commentary that made it an unforgettable experience. What made The Hunger Games adaptation so powerful was its ability to stay true to the essence of the book while enhancing its impact through visual storytelling. The casting was impeccable—Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen felt like the character had stepped right off the page. She captured Katniss’s resilience and vulnerability in a way that deepened my connection to the character. The rawness of her emotions—whether it was the silent terror in her eyes before the Games or her heartbreaking reaction to Rue’s death—made her journey feel even more real. The cinematography and direction also played a huge role in making the story come to life. The use of handheld cameras and shaky movements in the arena placed the audience directly into the chaos and fear of the Games. It was immersive and disorienting—just as it should be. The stark contrast between the lavish, colorful world of the Capitol and the bleak, desolate districts made the class divide even more striking than it had been in the book. Seeing this visual representation reinforced the dystopian themes in a way that words alone could not fully capture. Another aspect of the film that left me speechless was its use of sound—or rather, its lack of it. One of the most chilling moments was the silence after Katniss and Peeta’s victory in the arena. Instead of triumph, there was an eerie stillness, a reminder that their win was just the beginning of something much larger. The absence of sound in key moments forced the audience to sit with the weight of what was happening, amplifying the tension and emotional impact. What made this adaptation so special to me was how it enhanced my appreciation for both books and films as storytelling mediums. The book allowed me to experience Katniss’s inner thoughts and emotions in a deeply personal way, while the movie brought those emotions to life through performance, visuals, and sound design. It made me realize that while books give us the framework for imagination, films have the power to transform those imaginings into something tangible, something that can be felt on a visceral level. The Hunger Games wasn’t just a good adaptation—it was a perfect example of how a film can honor its source material while expanding upon it in meaningful ways. It brought to life the heart of the story—the fight for survival, the critique of power, and the resilience of the human spirit. Watching it reminded me why I love both books and movies, and why storytelling in all its forms has the power to inspire, challenge, and change us. This scholarship would not only support my educational journey but also affirm the importance of storytelling in my life. Whether through literature, film, or the personal narratives we share, stories shape the way we see the world. Just like The Hunger Games left a lasting impact on me, I hope to leave a meaningful impact on others through my journey.
    Christina Taylese Singh Memorial Scholarship
From an early age, I understood the importance of compassion, resilience, and service to others. Growing up in a single-parent household, I took on responsibilities beyond my years, helping raise my younger brothers while also striving to build a better future for myself. Witnessing my older brother battle complex health issues left me feeling helpless at times, but it also ignited a passion within me—a desire to pursue a career where I could provide care and guidance to those in need. This passion led me to pursue a degree in Biological Sciences as a step toward becoming a physician assistant (PA). I was drawn to this field because it embodies everything I value: patient-centered care, adaptability, and the ability to make a direct impact on people's lives. Unlike other medical professions, physician assistants have the unique ability to work across different specialties, allowing them to serve diverse patient populations and address a variety of health concerns. This flexibility and the opportunity to develop meaningful patient relationships solidified my decision to follow this career path. I am enrolled in a medical assistant program while attending school full-time to gain firsthand experience in healthcare. Balancing these responsibilities has been challenging, but it has only strengthened my work ethic and determination. My medical assistant training is teaching me valuable clinical skills and reinforcing my desire to work in a profession that blends technical expertise with human connection. Each day, I become more confident that healthcare is where I belong. Beyond my studies, I have dedicated time to volunteering in my community. From assisting at large-scale events like the Mesa Marathon and Celebrate Mesa to working with children in an after-school program as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, I have seen how small acts of service can brighten someone's day and make a difference. Whether it's offering support to a struggling student or providing a simple moment of joy to a child, I have learned that helping others—no matter the setting—brings purpose and fulfillment to my life. My long-term goal as a physician assistant is to serve in underserved communities, ensuring that every patient receives the compassionate and quality care they deserve. I want to bridge gaps in healthcare, educate patients about their well-being, and empower them to take control of their health. Christina Taylese Singh’s story resonates deeply with me, as she dedicated her life to improving others' quality of life. While my path is different from hers, our missions align—to bring comfort, healing, and support to those who need it most. Receiving this scholarship would help ease the financial burden of my education and allow me to focus on becoming the best healthcare professional I can be. I am committed to honoring Christina’s legacy by continuing to work hard, serve my community, and pursue a career where I can truly make a difference.
    TEAM ROX Scholarship
From an early age, I learned the impact of support and selflessness on shaping someone’s future. Growing up in a single-parent household, I had to step up early, not just for myself but for my younger brothers. Ensuring they had guidance and opportunities that I often lacked became a personal mission that grew stronger with time. I became more than just a sibling—I was a role model, a mentor, and at times, a source of stability. This foundation of responsibility and care led me to a passion for helping others, whether through my work, volunteer efforts, or career aspirations. My experiences in volunteer work have reinforced this drive. At community events like the Mesa Marathon and Celebrate Mesa, I connected with people by offering support in small but meaningful ways—whether handing out water, running booths, or addressing concerns with patience and kindness. These moments, though seemingly simple, reminded me that helping others succeed doesn’t always require grand gestures; sometimes, it’s about being present, listening, and offering support in the ways that matter most to them. The gratitude and relief I saw on others' faces after a small act of kindness further motivated me to make service a core part of my life. This passion extends to my professional goals. Currently, I work as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa’s after-school program, where I help create a safe and enriching environment for children. Through this program, I provide mentorship, assist with activities, and encourage kids to explore their interests and develop new skills. Many of the children come from challenging backgrounds, and I see pieces of my childhood reflected in them. Watching them gain confidence and grow into their best selves is incredibly rewarding and reinforces my belief in the power of guidance and support. Knowing that I can be a positive influence in their lives, just as I wished for growing up, fuels my passion for making a lasting impact. Beyond my job, I am actively working toward a future in healthcare. Pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences and completing a medical assistant program while attending school full-time is a challenge, but one I embrace. My ultimate goal is to become a physician assistant, where I can make a direct impact on patient’s lives—not just treating their physical ailments but providing the reassurance and care they need during difficult times. Healthcare is more than just a profession to me; it is a calling. I have witnessed firsthand how uncertainty in medical situations can be overwhelming, and I want to be the person who provides clarity and hope to those in need. Every step I take is driven by a deep-rooted belief that success is not just about personal achievement but about lifting others along the way. Whether through mentorship, healthcare, or community engagement, my purpose is clear: to help others unlock their potential and become the best versions of themselves. This scholarship would be instrumental in furthering my education and allowing me to continue on this path of service, ensuring that I can make a lasting difference in the lives of those I encounter.
    Arthur and Elana Panos Scholarship
My faith has been a guiding force in every aspect of my life. From the moment I wake up to the end of each day, my belief in God shapes the choices I make and the way I interact with others. In moments of doubt or struggle, I remember that I am never alone and that my purpose in life is greater than any obstacle. The principles of honesty, compassion, and service that are deeply rooted in my faith shape my character and actions, allowing me to approach challenges with resilience and perseverance. When I reflect on the life lessons I’ve learned, it is clear that the values of integrity, hard work, and faith in God's plan have been woven into the fabric of who I am. The spirit of perseverance is something that runs deeply in my family. My great relatives were pioneers who traveled across the country with Brigham Young, following their faith and seeking new opportunities in a land full of unknowns. Their journey wasn’t easy; they faced hardship, uncertainty, and physical challenges, yet their commitment to faith, family, and purpose carried them through. Inspired by their unwavering belief in God's plan, they were eventually led to Arizona, where they continued their journey, building a new life in a place that was once foreign to them. Their story is a testament to the power of faith, hard work, and determination in overcoming adversity and pursuing what they believed was right. The lessons they passed down to future generations remind me that no matter where life leads, faith is a constant source of strength, providing direction amid uncertainty. As I pursue my goal of becoming a dermatology physician assistant, I know that my faith will continue to play a pivotal role in my journey. It will remind me to treat every patient with compassion and to prioritize their well-being in every decision I make. Just as my ancestors were guided by their faith amid challenging circumstances, I too will rely on my faith to help me navigate the demands of medical school and the responsibilities that come with caring for others. It will be my foundation for maintaining my integrity and ethics in an industry where the pressure to conform can sometimes feel overwhelming. My faith teaches me that success is not measured simply by personal achievement, but by the positive impact I can have on others. I want to be a healthcare provider who not only excels in the medical field but also embodies the values of kindness, respect, and service. Each patient I meet will be an opportunity to serve them as I would my own family, always striving to make a difference in their lives, no matter how big or small. Through my career, I hope to inspire others with the same dedication and faith that has been passed down to me, proving that with God’s guidance, success is possible, even in the face of challenges. Like the pioneers who crossed deserts, mountains, and rivers to forge new lives, I know that my journey won’t be without its struggles. But, just as my ancestors trusted in God's timing and followed His guidance through difficult terrain, I will continue to trust that He has a purpose for me in every step I take. I will remain steadfast, knowing that my faith will see me through. I am committed to facing whatever obstacles come my way with the same dedication and faith. I will continue to pursue my education and career, driven by the belief that through hard work and faith in God.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
My name is Ella Goodman, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences to become a physician assistant. My passion for healthcare is deeply personal, shaped by the challenges my family has faced navigating the medical system. My older brother has struggled with significant health issues, and watching him endure those challenges left me feeling powerless. The confusion surrounding medical diagnoses, treatments, and care options made it clear to me how crucial it is to have compassionate and knowledgeable healthcare professionals who not only treat but also educate and support patients and their families. Growing up, I was raised by a single mother and took on responsibilities beyond my years, helping care for my younger brothers while balancing school and work. These experiences instilled in me a strong work ethic, resilience, and a deep sense of responsibility. These are the qualities that continue to drive me today. My desire to enter the healthcare field is not just about earning a degree but about making a real impact on people’s lives, just as I wish someone had done for my family when we felt lost and overwhelmed. I am committed to taking action now rather than waiting until I complete my degree. In addition to attending school full-time, I am currently enrolled in a medical assistant program that requires 20 hours of training each week. This program is providing me with hands-on clinical experience, allowing me to develop practical skills that will make me a more competent and compassionate healthcare professional. On top of my rigorous academic schedule, I also work as a recreational assistant for the City of Mesa’s Parks and Recreation department, where I manage an after-school program for over 75 children. Balancing full-time school, medical training, and work is challenging, but it has reinforced my ability to multitask, stay organized, and remain dedicated to my goals. Despite my demanding schedule, I am motivated every day by the knowledge that the effort I am putting in now will help me make a difference in the future. Through my work in healthcare, I aim to bridge the gap between complex medical information and patient understanding while also ensuring that individuals feel heard, supported, and empowered in their healthcare journeys. My ultimate goal is to become a physician assistant who not only provides excellent medical care but also serves as an advocate for patients, particularly those who may feel lost or unheard in the system. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help in alleviating the financial burden of my education. It would allow me to focus more on my studies, medical assistant training, and clinical experience without the constant stress of tuition costs. More importantly, it would bring me one step closer to my dream of working in healthcare and making a meaningful impact in people’s lives. Thank you for your time and consideration.
    NYT Connections Fan Scholarship
Mercury Hermes Quicksilver Winged Bark Bow Pitcher Bass Clover Penny Luck Emerald Bug Virus Glitch Trojan Category 1: Names for the Roman God Mercury Mercury – The Roman messenger god, known for speed, travel, and communication. Hermes – The Greek counterpart of Mercury, sharing many of the same attributes. Quicksilver – Another name for the element mercury, which is also associated with speed. Winged – A reference to Mercury’s winged sandals and helmet, symbols of his swiftness. I am a huge Greek mythology nerd, so I love incorporating ancient myths into modern problem-solving. This category highlights how mythology influences language and culture, making it a fascinating connection. Category 2: Words with Multiple Meanings Bark – This can refer to a tree’s outer covering or the sound a dog makes. Bow – This can mean a curved weapon for shooting arrows or the act of bending forward as a sign of respect. Pitcher – A container for holding liquids or a player position in baseball. Bass – A type of fish or a low musical tone. I chose this category because it plays on homonyms, a concept I’ve always found interesting. Words with multiple meanings can be tricky, and they challenge players to think beyond the most obvious definition. This group is especially challenging because some of these words could easily be misclassified into other categories. Category 3: Symbols of Luck and Wealth Clover – A reference to the four-leaf clover, a well-known symbol of good luck. Penny – Based on the belief that finding a penny brings good fortune. Luck – The most direct reference to good fortune. Emerald – A gem associated with prosperity, wealth, and luck in various cultures. I picked this category because luck and wealth are universal themes found in folklore and superstitions. These symbols are embedded in everyday life, from lucky charms to financial success. Category 4: Cybersecurity Threats Bug – A software flaw that causes unexpected behavior. Virus – A malicious software program designed to damage or disrupt systems. Glitch – An unexpected malfunction or error in a system. Trojan – A type of malware that disguises itself as legitimate software to deceive users. I included this category because cybersecurity is more relevant than ever. With technology evolving rapidly, understanding digital threats is crucial for staying safe online. These terms might seem unrelated at first, but they all highlight vulnerabilities in software and digital systems. This puzzle requires a deeper level of reasoning. Each word has multiple meanings, making it easy to misinterpret or misclassify them. The Words with Multiple Meanings category, in particular, is tricky because those words could fit into different groups based on interpretation. By blending mythology, language, technology, and symbolism, I aimed to create a puzzle that engages both analytical thinking and broad general knowledge. Trying to make it just like the best Connections puzzles do!
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
From her early days as Maya Hart on Girl Meets World to her flourishing career as a singer and actress, Sabrina Carpenter has been an artist I’ve admired for years. Her journey in the entertainment industry is not just about talent. It’s about resilience, self-expression, and the courage to evolve. Sabrina’s music, performances, and unapologetic authenticity have profoundly impacted me, shaping how I view confidence and personal growth. One of the things I love most about Sabrina is her ability to blend vulnerability with empowerment. Her music isn’t just catchy but it tells a story. Songs like Please, Please, Please, and Espresso are playful yet bold, showcasing her ability to balance fun with depth. However, it was her earlier ballads, like Skin and Because I Liked a Boy, that truly resonated with me. These songs tackle the complexities of self-worth and resilience. These topics I’ve struggled with in my own life. Hearing her put these emotions into words helped me feel understood as if someone had articulated what I couldn't say myself. Beyond her music, Sabrina’s journey in the industry is incredibly inspiring. Transitioning from a Disney Channel star to an independent artist with her image is no easy feat, yet she managed to carve out a space for herself in both music and film. Many child actors struggle to break free from their past roles, but Sabrina did so with confidence, proving that reinvention is possible with dedication and belief in oneself. As someone who often doubts my abilities, seeing her embrace every new challenge reminds me that growth means stepping outside of my comfort zone. She’s shown me that it's okay to change, to try new things, and to take risks in pursuit of my dreams. Another reason I admire Sabrina so much is because of her presence as a petite woman in an industry that often prioritizes taller, older-looking stars. As someone who is 4'11", I’ve always been self-conscious about my height, feeling overlooked or underestimated at times. Knowing that Sabrina is just barely taller than me at five feet and still commands the stage, makes waves in Hollywood, and holds her own next to some of the biggest names in entertainment is incredibly empowering. She proves that size does not determine presence, and confidence is what truly makes someone stand out. Sabrina Carpenter also uses her platform for good. She speaks about self-acceptance and breaking industry expectations. These values that I strive to embody. Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish’s music has been a constant companion in my life by helping me through struggles. It inspired self-acceptance and offered solace when I needed it most. Her raw lyrics and haunting melodies make me feel understood in a way few artists do. While many of her songs resonate with me, three stand out as particularly meaningful: “everything i wanted,” “My Future,” and “idontwannabeyouanymore.” “everything i wanted” speaks to the feeling of isolation and the battle between success and self-worth. As someone who has carried a lot of responsibility from a young age, I’ve often felt like I had to push through hardships alone. Growing up in a single-parent household, I had to take on adult responsibilities early, helping to raise my younger brothers while balancing work and school. At times, I felt invisible, like my efforts went unnoticed. This song reminds me that even in my darkest moments, I am not alone. The lyrics reflect the complicated emotions of striving for something greater while grappling with self-doubt, a feeling I know all too well. “my future” is a song that fills me with hope and motivation. As a first-generation college student pursuing a healthcare career, I often find myself overwhelmed by the challenges ahead. However, this song reminds me to embrace my journey and trust that I am building a better future for myself. Billie’s words, “I’m in love with my future, can’t wait to meet her,” resonate deeply because I, too, am learning to be excited about what lies ahead rather than fearful of the unknown. It’s a reminder that my hard work will pay off and that I am creating a future that my younger self would be proud of. “idontwannabeyouanymore” mirrors the struggle of self-doubt and insecurity. Growing up, I often felt like I had to be strong for everyone else, leaving little room to acknowledge my own feelings. This song makes me reflect on my own journey toward self-acceptance. It’s a reminder that I don’t have to carry the weight of past expectations and that I deserve to be kind to myself. Billie Eilish’s music has given me comfort, perspective, and the courage to embrace my path. Whether it’s helping me through moments of self-doubt or pushing me toward a future I’m working hard to build, her songs continue to shape my life in meaningful ways.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
When I think about my favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA, one name stands out. Katie Ledecky. She is not only one of the greatest swimmers of all time but also a role model of discipline and perseverance. Watching her dominate the pool with effortless power and unwavering determination has been truly inspiring. Ledecky burst onto the Olympic stage at just 15 years old in the 2012 London Games, stunning the world by winning gold in the 800-meter freestyle. Since then, she has shattered world records, and accumulated multiple Olympic and world championship medals. All while cementing herself as one of the most dominant athletes in swimming history. Yet, what makes Ledecky my favorite athlete is not just her success but it’s how she carries herself through it all. Despite being an elite competitor, Ledecky remains humble and focused on constant improvement. She trains relentlessly, pushing herself beyond limits most people would never even attempt. Her ability to maintain such a high level of excellence while staying grounded is something I deeply admire. Even in moments of defeat, she handles challenges with grace and resilience, proving that true champions are not just measured by victories but by their ability to rise after setbacks. Ledecky’s dedication has inspired me in my own life. Whether in academics, sports, or personal goals, I strive to embody her work ethic. I strive to show up, to put in the effort, and to refuse to back down from challenges. She has shown me that success isn’t about natural talent alone; it’s about the hours of unseen work. It's about perseverance through hardships and the belief in one’s potential. Beyond her achievements, Ledecky also gives back to the community, encouraging young athletes—especially girls—to pursue their dreams in sports and education. She has used her platform to advocate for the importance of hard work, discipline, and believing in oneself. This makes her impact even greater than her records in the pool. Katie Ledecky is more than just an Olympian. She is a symbol of determination, resilience, and humility. Whether she’s smashing records or inspiring the next generation, she represents everything that makes Team USA great. She has shown me that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible. For that, she will always be my favorite athlete to cheer for.
    GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
"I'm sorry that I couldn't always be your teenage dream." – Teenage Dream, Olivia Rodrigo Adolescence is often painted as the best years of our lives. It’s supposed to be filled with freedom, adventure, and self-discovery. But Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS shatters this illusion, capturing the raw, messy, and often painful side of growing up. When I first heard the lyric, "I'm sorry that I couldn't always be your teenage dream," it felt like she had taken my thoughts and set them to music. This line resonated deeply with me, encapsulating the weight of expectations, self-doubt, and the struggle to find my own identity. Like Rodrigo, I have felt the pressure to live up to an idealized version of teenage life. Social media, movies, and even well-meaning adults tell us that these years should be full of confidence, fun, and endless memories. Yet, adolescence has been a journey of self-doubt, pressure, and feeling like I’m constantly falling short. Trying to balance academics, family responsibilities, and social life while trying to figure out who I am has often left me exhausted. There have been moments where I felt like I wasn’t “enough”—not smart enough, not social enough, not happy enough. However, Teenage Dream also made me realize that I am not alone in these struggles. Every teenager, in some way, faces insecurities and moments of self-doubt. Rodrigo’s honesty fosters a sense of connection, reminding me that behind every seemingly perfect facade. There is someone else who feels the same way I do. This lyric isn’t just about personal struggle, it’s about the universal experience of growing up. By wanting to meet expectations but realizing that perfection is an impossible goal. Her music has also deepened my empathy for those around me. Before, I often assumed that others had everything figured out, that their confidence was real and their happiness effortless. But now, I recognize that we are all carrying unseen burdens. A classmate who seems effortlessly social might be struggling with loneliness. A friend who always has a smile might be battling inner turmoil. Just as Rodrigo's music reassures me, I strive to extend that same reassurance to those in my life. I strive to listen without judgment, offering encouragement, and reminding others that they don’t have to be anyone’s “teenage dream” to be worthy and enough. Listening to GUTS has encouraged me to be more open about my emotions and mental health. For years, I bottled up my fears and anxieties, thinking I had to face them alone. But Rodrigo’s unfiltered honesty has shown me the strength in vulnerability. I’ve learned that it’s okay to admit when I’m struggling. It’s okay to ask for help and to accept that I don’t have to have everything figured out right now. Through GUTS, Olivia Rodrigo has given me a voice for the messy, beautiful chaos of adolescence. This album has not only helped me navigate the pressures of growing up but has also inspired me to embrace my imperfections and extend the same understanding to those around me. In a world that often demands perfection, GUTS reminds us that being real is more than enough.
    Larry Darnell Green Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household shaped my life in ways I never expected. My mother raised me and my younger brothers on her own, working tirelessly to provide for us. With no other parent to rely on, I had to step up at a young age—not just as a sibling but as a second caretaker. I learned responsibility, resilience, and sacrifice far earlier than most of my peers. While other kids were focused solely on school and social lives, I was balancing my education with helping to raise my brothers, ensuring they had the support and guidance I often lacked. The struggles of being raised in a single-parent home weren’t just financial; they were emotional as well. Watching my mom work endlessly, often putting her own needs aside to ensure we had food on the table and a roof over our heads, taught me the value of hard work and selflessness. However, it also made me feel the weight of our circumstances. There were moments when I felt like I was going through everything alone, navigating school, work, and personal struggles without the safety net that many of my peers had. Despite these challenges, I refused to let my situation define my future. Education became my way out. It was a way to build a better life not just for myself but for my family. Pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences while also completing a medical assistant program is more than just a career path for me; it’s a promise to myself and my loved ones that I will break the cycle and create stability for future generations. My dream of becoming a physician assistant is rooted in my desire to help others who feel unseen and unsupported, much like I did growing up. Giving back to my community has always been a priority. Through my work as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, I engage with children and families, many of whom face similar struggles to the ones I experienced. I use my position to create safe, enriching experiences that allow kids to just be kids. Which was something I didn’t always get to do. In the future, I plan to extend my impact through healthcare by advocating for accessible medical care, especially for single-parent families who often struggle to prioritize their health due to financial constraints. I want to be the provider who not only treats patients but also listens, understands, and helps them find the support they need. Being raised by a single parent has shaped me into a determined, empathetic, and ambitious individual. It has taught me the importance of perseverance and the responsibility we have to uplift others. This scholarship would not only help me achieve my educational goals but also allow me to continue giving back because I know firsthand how much a little support can change a life.
ADHDAdvisor's Mental Health Advocate Scholarship for Health Students
Mental health is often overlooked in healthcare, yet it is just as critical as physical well-being. My journey toward a healthcare career has been shaped by my personal experiences—both supporting others and navigating my struggles. Growing up, I took on responsibilities far beyond my years. Raised by a single mother, I became a second parent to my younger brothers, striving to give them a better childhood than I had. Balancing these responsibilities with school and work left me feeling overwhelmed and alone. Without much support, I learned to push through on sheer perseverance. These experiences opened my eyes to how many people battle mental health challenges in silence. My older brother’s serious health issues further reinforced the link between physical and mental well-being. His struggles took a heavy emotional toll on our entire family. Feeling helpless, I turned to action, offering comfort and strength. I realized the power of simply being present for someone, and how small acts of kindness can make a difference. Now, as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, I use these lessons to support others. Many children and families I work with face significant stressors, and I strive to create a space where they feel safe. Whether through shared laughter or words of encouragement, I aim to be a positive presence in their lives. Pursuing a degree in biological sciences and training as a medical assistant are my first steps toward becoming a physician assistant. I want to be more than just a provider—I want to be an advocate for mental health in healthcare. I know what it’s like to struggle in silence, and I will ensure my patients feel heard and understood. Mental health should never be secondary. By combining scientific knowledge with empathy, I hope to create a lasting impact—one patient, one conversation, and one act of support at a time.

    Scott W. Trades Memorial Scholarship
From a young age, I have recognized the value of skilled trades in shaping our communities and providing essential services. My single mother supported my brothers and me through her trade in cosmetology, and I owe trades my life. Watching her work tirelessly instilled in me a deep appreciation for hands-on skills and the opportunities they provide. My first experience in a trade came when I attended a cosmetology trade school and became a licensed cosmetologist, just like my mother. This experience not only allowed me to develop technical skills but also taught me the importance of dedication, resilience, and financial independence. However, my passion for healthcare and my desire to make a difference in people’s lives led me to pursue another trade—medical assisting. Currently, I am enrolled in a medical assistant program while attending school full-time, with the long-term goal of becoming a physician assistant. Medical assisting is a critical trade that allows professionals to provide direct patient care, support physicians, and contribute to the efficient operation of healthcare facilities. Through this program, I am gaining the clinical and administrative skills necessary to work in a fast-paced medical environment, all while making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients. After graduation, I plan to work as a medical assistant to gain valuable hands-on experience in the healthcare field. This experience will serve as a stepping stone toward my ultimate goal of becoming a physician assistant, allowing me to further develop my skills and expand my medical knowledge while continuing to provide compassionate care to those in need. I am particularly passionate about working with underserved communities, ensuring that individuals from all backgrounds have access to quality healthcare. I believe that every patient deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and I want to be part of the movement to bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility. Despite my determination, balancing my education with financial responsibilities has been a challenge. Pursuing this trade requires tuition, certification costs, and other educational expenses that add up quickly. Receiving this scholarship would alleviate some of the financial burden and allow me to focus on excelling in my program without the constant worry of financial strain. Scott Van Antwerp’s legacy in the trades is an inspiration, and I am honored to apply for a scholarship that encourages individuals to pursue essential careers. Like Scott, I believe that trade professionals play a crucial role in society, whether in plumbing, cosmetology, or healthcare. Winning this scholarship would not only support my education but also reaffirm my commitment to using my trade skills to make a lasting impact in the healthcare field. By investing in my education, this scholarship would allow me to continue my journey of service, ensuring that I can contribute meaningfully to my community and inspire others to explore the boundless opportunities within the trades.

    Audra Dominguez "Be Brave" Scholarship
Resilience and determination have been the foundation of my journey, shaping who I am and driving me toward my healthcare career. Growing up in a single-parent household, I quickly learned the value of perseverance. My mother worked tirelessly to provide for my siblings and me, and as the older sibling, I took on responsibilities far beyond my years. I helped raise my younger brothers, ensuring they had the support and guidance they needed to grow up with opportunities I never had. This experience strengthened me and taught me that adversity is not a roadblock but a challenge to overcome. But some battles are invisible. For years, I have fought against major depression and generalized anxiety disorder, a relentless storm inside my mind. Every morning, I wake up to a brain that tries to pull me into the darkness, convincing me that there is no point in continuing. Depression tells me I have no future. Anxiety keeps me awake at night, spiraling over everything I need to do, even as depression whispers that none of it matters. It is a constant, exhausting war. One voice telling me I care too much, the other insisting I don’t care at all. Some days, just getting out of bed feels like climbing a mountain, but I do it anyway. Because I refuse to let this battle define me. Despite these struggles, I have pushed myself forward, refusing to give up on my dreams. I am currently a full-time student, pursuing my degree in Biological Sciences, while also enrolled in a medical assistant program that requires 20 hours of training per week. In addition, I work as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, helping to run an after-school program with 75+ kids, who come from similar or harder upbringings. Balancing school, work, and medical training is overwhelming at times, but I embrace the challenge because I know my perseverance will lead me to a future where I can help others who feel as lost and hopeless as I once did. My struggles with mental health have given me a unique perspective on compassionate care. I understand what it feels like to be in pain, to feel invisible, to question whether life is worth continuing. That understanding fuels my passion for healthcare. I want to be the kind of medical professional who not only treats physical ailments but also recognizes the silent battles people carry. I want to remind patients that they are seen, that their pain is real and that they are not alone. The Audra Dominguez Memorial Scholarship represents more than just financial assistance—it is a testament to resilience, to continuing the fight even when every part of you wants to give up. I have faced adversity in many forms, but I am still here. I am still pushing forward. And I will continue to do so, for myself and for the people who need someone to remind them that they can, too. Thank you for enabling my dreams and helping me keep going.

The outdoors has always been more than just a place to explore—it has shaped who I am and continues to influence my personal and professional journey. Growing up in Michigan, I spent every moment I could outside, from building forts in trees and playing capture the flag in the forest to camping for weeks on end. My summers were filled with quadding, boating, kayaking, fishing, and swimming in the lakes that felt like home. I ran across the dunes, jumped off cliffs into the water, and embraced every opportunity to connect with nature. As I got older, my love for the outdoors only grew. Moving to the Southwest expanded my adventures, introducing me to the breathtaking landscapes of Arizona and Utah. I have hiked the Grand Canyon, explored Moab’s red rocks, rappelled down cliffs, and even gone cave diving. One of my favorite experiences is watching the sunrise or sunset from the top of a mountain. Moments like these remind me of the vastness of the world and the peace that comes from being fully present in it. This passion for the outdoors is something I carry into my career today. I currently work as a recreation assistant for the City of Mesa, where I helped start the Fun ‘N’ Fitness mobile recreation unit. This program brings free activities to parks across the city, promoting health and wellness, conservation, culture, and learning. Hoping that the children can experience joy in the outdoors as I did growing up. My experiences in nature have taught me resilience and the importance of protecting the wild places that bring healing and joy. Whether navigating rough waters while kayaking or pushing through exhaustion on a challenging hike, I have learned perseverance and problem-solving. These skills that I now apply to both my job and my future in healthcare. I believe in the strong connection between physical well-being and time spent outdoors, and I hope to continue merging these passions in my career. As I pursue a future in healthcare, I am committed to incorporating outdoor wellness into my approach. As a future healthcare provider, I plan to offer life-affirming care that upholds the dignity of every individual, regardless of their circumstances or stage of life. I aim to advocate for holistic approaches to healthcare that address not only physical needs but also emotional and spiritual well-being. By combining science and compassion, I want to ensure that every patient feels valued, supported, and empowered. My faith-driven ambition extends beyond my professional goals. I hope to inspire others to see the beauty and worth of every human life. Whether through direct patient care, community education, or advocacy efforts, I am committed to making a positive, life-affirming impact on the world. I aim to be a source of hope for those who feel forgotten and a champion for those who are most vulnerable. Through faith, determination, and education, I will continue to work toward a future where all lives are valued and protected. I believe that true change begins with individuals who are willing to stand up for what they believe in, and I am determined to be one of those individuals. My faith gives me the courage and strength to pursue this path, and my ambition drives me to never stop working toward a better world where every life is celebrated.
