Guyton Winspeare College Scholarship
I think that I am deserving for this scholarship because as I near the end of my high school years and start to think about colleges and what I want to do with my life after I graduate I think about the overwhelming stress that follows. Having to choose between your dream school that is more pricier than others or the school you're all right with going to if it means less debt. It is something that has consumed my thoughts and added extra stress to an already busy senior year.
As I've started to prepare myself for the transition into college, I've felt both excitement and pressure. The expense part of college is one that renders in my family and I's minds constantly. These concerns and wonders I have about the next four ears of my life have led me to be more motivated and to take advantage of every opportunity handed to me. I have been working harder in school and seeking out leadership roles in my school as actions of not letting these financial wonders hold me back but to push me forward. The act of me doing more for my school and community as well as academically has pushed me forward to take the path I want to follow.
One of the most influential part of my high school career has been my role on the track team. It has taught me discipline, perseverance, and what it means to set goals for myself. Whether I am training on the off-season or pushing myself to run faster in the 4x100 relay to win it for the team, track has shown me how to stay focused even when things get difficult. These lessons that I still am learning, have linked to my academic goals and future plans as well. When I am stuck with something in class or on homework, I don't settle for an "ok" grade, I ask the teacher for help or stay after to get a better understanding on the topic. I strive to be the best version of myself and being awarded this scholarship will help me accede my goals and future plans allowing me to follow through with my educational plans with less stress about the financial situation. Allowing me to worry less about the financial aspect of college and focus on finishing my senior year and making it the best it can be.
