COVID-19 Perspective Scholarship
I think society will change in terms of healthcare because there of how great of a demand there was for it. This taught us how society needs to be prepared for emergencies like this, and showed us that we weren’t. It opened my eyes to how if people didn’t have healthcare, their chance of losing a loved one increases. Technology was one of the most useful tools everyone had during quarantine. We were all able to use social media to share information and read up on how to stay safe. It also helped us feel connected to everyone while we were all inside. Without technology, schools would have had no way of continuing and lots more people would have lost their jobs. It was an essential part of keeping up financially as well as mentally. The absence of transportation helped to heal the earth in just a couple months. Without all the exhaust, air pollution was decreasing and making the atmosphere clearer. Socially, we were trying our best but it was hard to stay home with the same people everyday. There was tension in our house and arguments were more likely to break out. Social media allowed us all to stay connected and talk to our friends and other family. On the other hand, we were all so isolated and gave us time to really think about who we are. It made you think about things that were really important and gave us all a chance to better ourselves. Going back to school and work made me realize how interacting with others everyday made my mood infinitely better. As for education, the teachers were doing their best and trying their best to adapt quickly, but the quality of education decreased. We didn’t meet for school everyday and all assignments, quizzes, and tests, were take home. Looking at a screen everyday was hard on our mental health and contributed to burnout among most students. Another aspect of life that really changed for me was how the priorities in my life shifted. I started realizing how exhausting my life before quarantine was and how I had to change my routine. I was able to take care of myself and develop better self-care habits. It was a really hard time not seeing friends, but it was a good self-discovery time for everyone.
