Champions Of A New Path Scholarship
My path has been easy, but that I have learned how to grow through challenges and turn those experiences into purpose. My experiences as both a student and athlete have shaped me into someone who is resilient, adaptable, and deeply motivated to make a meaningful impact on others. As a competitive soccer player, I experienced multiple setbacks that significantly changed my perspective on both athletics and life. After suffering two ACL tears and undergoing four knee surgeries, I faced not only physical obstacles, but also the mental and emotional challenges that come with injury and recovery. There were moments of uncertainty where I questioned my future in the sport and had to rebuild my confidence from the ground up. Rather than allowing those experiences to stop me, I used them as motivation to continue growing and pushing forward. Those challenges ultimately led me toward my passion for sport and performance psychology. Through my own recovery process, I realized how important mental resilience, confidence, and emotional support are for athletes. This inspired me to pursue a career where I can help others navigate similar experiences and support athletes both mentally and physically throughout their journeys. What also sets me apart is my willingness to pursue opportunities outside of my comfort zone. While studying abroad at Rome City Institute, I continued playing soccer internationally for the Ladispoli Women’s Soccer Team while balancing academics and adapting to a completely new environment. During this time, I earned Dean’s List honors and received the Comeback Player Award. That experience strengthened my independence, adaptability, and understanding of athlete performance in diverse environments. In addition to academics and athletics, I actively seek ways to contribute beyond the classroom. I currently work as a Sports Statistician and am developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance challenges, and identity transitions. Through this platform, I hope to create more open conversations around mental health in sports and provide support for athletes who may feel isolated in their experiences. I believe I deserve this scholarship because I have consistently demonstrated perseverance, initiative, and a strong sense of purpose despite obstacles. I am not only pursuing higher education for personal success, but also to create a positive impact on others through sport and performance psychology. Every challenge I have faced has strengthened my commitment to helping others build resilience, confidence, and well-being. This scholarship would support my continued education and allow me to keep building toward a future centered on leadership, advocacy, and meaningful impact.
    WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
Attending higher education is essential to achieving my long-term goal of working in sport and performance psychology and supporting athletes in both their performance and overall well-being. My experiences as a student-athlete have shown me that success in sports is not solely based on physical ability, but also on mental strength, confidence, and resilience. However, I have also seen how often the psychological side of performance is overlooked, particularly during times of injury and recovery. Higher education provides me with the opportunity to gain the knowledge and applied skills necessary to address this gap and make a meaningful impact. After experiencing multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, I developed a deeper understanding of the challenges athletes face beyond the physical aspect of recovery. I struggled with fear of reinjury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty about my future in the sport. These experiences shaped my interest in sport and performance psychology and motivated me to pursue a path where I can support others going through similar challenges. Through higher education, I am able to build a strong foundation in psychology while gaining the tools needed to work directly with athletes in high-pressure and recovery-based environments. In addition to my academic goals, I have taken steps to engage with my field outside of the classroom. I currently work as a Sports Statistician, where I assist with performance analysis and collaborate with athletic programs. This role has strengthened my attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work within a team environment. I have also mentored athletes navigating injury recovery, offering support and guidance based on my own experiences. These opportunities have allowed me to begin applying what I have learned while reinforcing my commitment to helping others. One of the ways I plan to create a positive impact is by building a career focused on supporting athletes’ mental health and performance. I aim to help individuals develop confidence, manage pressure, and navigate challenges such as injury and identity transitions. By providing this type of support, I hope to contribute to environments where athletes feel both physically and mentally prepared to succeed. In addition, I am developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I aim to create open conversations around mental health and provide accessible support to a broader audience. Higher education also allows me to expand my perspective and continue growing both personally and professionally. My academic journey has been one of growth and improvement, particularly as I have become more focused and intentional in my studies. I am committed to continuing this progress and using my education as a tool to build a meaningful and impactful career. As a low-income student, financial support plays a significant role in my ability to continue pursuing my education. Balancing the cost of tuition, living expenses, and academic responsibilities can be challenging, but I remain committed to achieving my goals. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus more fully on my education and continue building the skills needed to make a positive impact. Ultimately, I plan to use my education not only to achieve personal success, but to support others in meaningful ways. I want to help athletes feel confident, resilient, and supported, particularly during challenging moments. By combining my experiences with my education, I am committed to creating a positive impact that extends beyond myself and contributes to a stronger, more supportive community.
Travel Not to Escape Study Abroad Scholarship
There have been multiple moments in my life where I had to rely on resilience and resourcefulness, but one of the most defining periods came during my recovery from multiple knee injuries. As a student-athlete, soccer had always been a central part of my identity. After experiencing two ACL tears and undergoing four surgeries, I was forced to step away from the game for extended periods of time. During those moments, I felt uncertain about my future and struggled with the loss of something that had always grounded me. I had to learn how to rebuild not only my physical strength, but also my confidence and sense of purpose. Recovery required patience, discipline, and the ability to push forward even when progress felt slow. I had to find new ways to stay connected to my goals, whether that meant focusing on small improvements in rehabilitation or finding motivation on days when it felt easier to give up. During this time, I learned how to adapt and remain hopeful, even when my path looked different than I expected. That experience taught me that resilience is not just about enduring challenges, but about continuing to move forward with intention. My study abroad experience in Italy was a turning point that helped me shift from simply surviving to actively creating a life that felt like my own. Traveling abroad to continue playing soccer allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and see what I was capable of in a completely new environment. Being far from home while navigating both athletics and daily life challenges forced me to become more independent and self-reliant. It also gave me a broader perspective on the world and helped me realize that there are opportunities beyond what I had originally imagined for myself. Studying abroad allowed me to reconnect with the sport I love in a new and meaningful way, while also gaining confidence in my ability to adapt and succeed in unfamiliar situations. It showed me that I am capable of building a life that extends beyond the limitations I once felt defined by. Rather than simply recovering and returning to where I was, I began to think about how I could grow and expand my experiences. Moving forward, I plan to continue pursuing opportunities abroad through both sport and professional development. I am interested in working in international sport environments and exploring how different cultures approach performance, mental health, and athlete development. Studying abroad is not just about travel for me—it is about growth, perspective, and building a future that reflects my goals and values. I am currently in the process of seeking additional opportunities to study and work abroad, with a focus on programs that allow me to combine athletics with academic and professional development. I hope to continue gaining global experience that will shape both my career and my understanding of how to support others. Travel has allowed me to move beyond simply managing challenges and instead begin creating a life that feels purposeful and aligned with who I am. It has shown me that I am capable of more than I once believed, and it has given me the confidence to pursue opportunities that once felt out of reach. I hope to use these experiences to not only continue growing myself, but also to inspire and support others who may feel limited by their circumstances.
    TRAM Resilience Scholarship
My physical challenges have had a significant impact on who I am today, both as a student and as an athlete. As a competitive soccer player, I have experienced multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries. These injuries required long recovery periods that affected not only my ability to compete, but also my daily life. Simple tasks became more difficult, and I had to adjust to physical limitations that I had never experienced before. While these challenges were difficult, they ultimately shaped my resilience, mindset, and long-term goals. Going through injury and rehabilitation taught me how to be patient and disciplined in ways I had never needed to before. Recovery is not a quick process, and there were many moments where progress felt slow or uncertain. I had to learn how to trust the process, stay consistent, and push forward even when results were not immediate. These experiences strengthened my ability to adapt and remain committed to my goals, regardless of obstacles. In addition to the physical impact, my injuries also changed how I view both athletics and personal growth. Being sidelined forced me to step back and gain a new perspective on the sport I had always been a part of. I became more aware of how quickly circumstances can change and how important it is to maintain a strong mindset. I also developed a deeper appreciation for the opportunities I have, and I no longer take my ability to compete for granted. My experiences with injury have also directly influenced my academic and career goals. Through the rehabilitation process, I became aware that recovery is not only physical, but also mental. Confidence, fear of reinjury, and motivation all play a critical role in an athlete’s ability to return to play. This realization led me to pursue a path in sport and performance psychology. I want to work with athletes who are going through similar challenges and help them navigate both the physical and mental aspects of recovery. Beyond my personal goals, these experiences have also influenced how I interact with others. I have become more empathetic and understanding, particularly when supporting individuals who are facing their own challenges. I have mentored athletes who are going through injury recovery, offering encouragement and guidance based on what I have learned. I strive to create a positive and supportive environment for others, especially during difficult moments. Looking ahead, I hope to use both my education and my experiences to make a meaningful impact. My goal is to support athletes in developing resilience, confidence, and mental strength, particularly during times of injury and transition. I want to contribute to a field that recognizes the importance of both physical and mental well-being, and that provides individuals with the tools they need to succeed. While my injuries presented significant challenges, they also shaped my character and gave me a clear sense of direction. They taught me how to persevere, adapt, and grow through adversity. These lessons will continue to guide me as I pursue my education and work toward making a positive impact in the lives of others.
    YOU GOT IT GIRL SCHOLARSHIP
Being a “You Got It Girl” means continuing to show up for yourself even when things don’t go as planned. It means being resilient, adaptable, and committed to your goals despite setbacks. As a student-athlete, I have learned that success is not defined by avoiding challenges, but by how you respond to them. My journey in soccer has been shaped by both passion and adversity, and those experiences have made me stronger both on and off the field. I have been involved in soccer for most of my life, beginning at a young age and continuing through competitive travel teams, collegiate athletics, and international play. I have played for multiple clubs, including West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association, and most recently competed at the collegiate and semi-professional levels, including time abroad in Italy. Throughout my career, I have played positions such as fullback, central midfielder, and defensive midfielder. Some of my accomplishments include earning a Scholar Athlete Award, receiving a Player Comeback Award while playing in Italy, and contributing to a league championship with my current team. While I am proud of these achievements, the most meaningful part of my journey has been the growth that came from overcoming challenges. One of the biggest challenges I have faced was experiencing multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries. These injuries forced me to step away from the game at times and challenged my identity as an athlete. There were moments when I questioned whether I would be able to return to the level I once competed at. However, instead of allowing those setbacks to define me, I used them as opportunities for growth. Through rehabilitation, I developed not only physical strength, but also mental resilience. I learned how to manage fear, rebuild confidence, and stay committed even when progress felt slow. Returning to play, especially while studying abroad in Rome, was one of the most empowering moments of my life. Being far from home and navigating that experience independently showed me what I am capable of and reinforced my belief in myself. The person who has inspired me most throughout this journey is my mom. For the first six years of my life, she raised me as a single parent while also being my first soccer coach. She introduced me to the game and supported me through every stage of my athletic career. Watching her balance responsibility, resilience, and unconditional support has shaped who I am today. She has shown me what it means to work hard, stay committed, and continue moving forward regardless of challenges. Her influence is a major reason why I approach both athletics and life with determination and confidence. Being a student-athlete means more to me than competing—it means representing resilience, growth, and perseverance. I currently compete at the collegiate level and continue to pursue opportunities to play at higher levels. Whether training, recovering, or competing, I am fully committed to continuing my athletic journey. I am not on a full athletic scholarship, but I have remained dedicated to the sport through every obstacle, which reflects my passion and commitment. This scholarship would support my journey in meaningful ways, both academically and athletically. The financial support would help cover the costs associated with my education, as well as expenses related to training, travel, and continuing to compete. More importantly, it would allow me to focus on my development as both a student and an athlete without the added stress of financial strain. Beyond athletics, I am building toward a future in sport and performance psychology, where I can support athletes navigating the same challenges I have experienced. I am also developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the mental side of performance, injury, and identity. My goal is to create a platform that supports athletes and encourages open conversations about mental health in sports. Being a “You Got It Girl” means continuing to push forward, even when the path is uncertain. It means showing up for yourself and others, and using your experiences to grow and inspire. My journey has not been perfect, but it has made me resilient, driven, and committed to building something greater. This scholarship would not only support my goals, but also recognize the perseverance and dedication that define who I am as an athlete and as a person.
    Let Your Light Shine Scholarship
I plan to create a legacy by building a career and platform that supports athletes not only in their performance, but in their overall mental health and well-being. Through my experiences as a student-athlete, I have come to understand how often the mental side of performance is overlooked. After experiencing multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four knee surgeries, I realized that recovery is not just physical. Confidence, fear, and identity all play a major role in an athlete’s ability to return to play. This understanding has shaped both my goals and the type of impact I hope to make in the future. The type of business I hope to create is centered around sport and performance psychology. I want to build a practice that provides mental performance training and psychological support to athletes at all levels. This would include working with individuals on confidence building, focus, managing pressure, and navigating injury recovery. In addition to one-on-one work, I also hope to expand this into a broader platform that offers resources, education, and accessible support for athletes who may not otherwise have access to these services. One of the first steps I have taken toward this goal is developing my podcast, The In-Between. This platform focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance challenges, and life transitions. Through open and honest conversations, I aim to create a space where individuals feel understood and less alone in their experiences. I see this not only as a passion project, but as the beginning of a larger initiative to normalize conversations around mental health in athletics and build a community centered on support and growth. I believe I shine my light through my ability to connect with others and support them during difficult moments. Having gone through injury and recovery myself, I understand how isolating those experiences can be. I have made it a priority to mentor and encourage other athletes, offering guidance and reassurance based on what I have learned. Whether through conversations, mentorship, or the work I am building through my podcast, I strive to create environments where people feel seen, heard, and supported. My goal is to use both my education and my personal experiences to build something that has a lasting impact. I want to create a legacy that goes beyond individual success and instead focuses on helping others grow, overcome challenges, and reach their full potential. By combining entrepreneurship with mental health advocacy, I hope to build a business that not only serves athletes, but also contributes to a more open and supportive culture within sports and beyond.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My understanding of mental health has been shaped by both personal challenges and the loss of someone who was a significant part of my life. December 17th, 2020, my childhood best friend died by suicide. That experience changed the way I see the world, my relationships, and the importance of mental health. It forced me to confront how much people can struggle internally without others fully understanding, and how often those struggles go unnoticed. Since then, I have become more aware of the importance of open conversation, support, and simply being present for others. Before that loss, I had already begun to understand the impact of mental health through my experiences as a student-athlete. After suffering multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, I faced not only physical challenges but also significant mental and emotional ones. I struggled with fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty about my future in the sport that had always been a major part of my identity. At times, the mental side of recovery felt more difficult than the physical process. These experiences helped me realize that mental health is not separate from success—it is a critical part of it. Losing my friend deepened that understanding in a way I had never experienced before. It made me reflect on how important it is to check in on people, even when they seem okay on the surface. It also changed how I approach my relationships. I now place a greater emphasis on being present, listening without judgment, and creating a space where others feel comfortable expressing what they are going through. I have learned that meaningful relationships are built through trust, empathy, and consistency, and that even small acts of support can have a lasting impact. These experiences have also shaped my goals and aspirations. I plan to pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, where I can support individuals not only in their performance, but also in their mental and emotional well-being. I am especially interested in helping athletes navigate challenges such as injury recovery, performance pressure, and identity transitions. I understand firsthand how isolating these experiences can feel, and I want to be someone who helps others feel supported and understood during those moments. In addition to my career goals, I have taken steps to advocate for mental health within my own community. I support other athletes who are going through injury recovery, offering guidance and encouragement based on my own experiences. I also make a conscious effort to check in on those around me and create an environment where open conversations about mental health are encouraged. In addition, I am developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I hope to contribute to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and provide a space where individuals feel less alone. My journey with mental health has taught me that understanding, empathy, and open dialogue are essential in supporting others. It has shaped how I see the world, how I build relationships, and what I hope to contribute in the future. I have learned that mental health is not something that should be hidden or ignored, but something that should be acknowledged and supported with care and compassion. I am committed to using my experiences to create a more open, supportive, and understanding environment for those around me.
    Tawkify Meaningful Connections Scholarship
One of the most meaningful relationships in my life is the one I have with my mom. For the first six years of my life, she raised me as a single parent, balancing the responsibility of providing for me while also being my main source of support and guidance. During those early years, she was not only my parent, but also my first coach—the person who introduced me to soccer and helped me fall in love with the game. What started as something we shared together became one of the most important parts of my life, shaping both who I am and the path I am now pursuing. Because of our early experiences, my relationship with my mom is extremely close. She has always been someone I can rely on, whether I am facing challenges or celebrating accomplishments. Watching her navigate life as a single parent taught me what it means to be resilient, selfless, and committed. She showed me the importance of consistency, hard work, and being present for the people who matter most. These lessons have had a lasting impact on how I approach my own relationships. As I grew older, soccer became a central part of my life, and the foundation my mom helped build stayed with me. Through both success and adversity—including multiple knee injuries, two ACL tears, and long recovery periods, I have learned how important it is to have strong, supportive relationships. During difficult times, it was my mom’s encouragement and belief in me that helped me continue moving forward. This reinforced my understanding that meaningful connections are built through trust, patience, and genuine support. This relationship has shaped the way I connect with others in my community. I have learned that being present, listening, and offering encouragement can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. As a student-athlete, I have made it a priority to support my teammates and mentor younger athletes, especially those navigating injury recovery. I try to create the same kind of supportive environment that my mom created for me, one where individuals feel understood, valued, and motivated to keep going. My relationship with my mom has also influenced my future goals. I plan to pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, where I can help athletes build confidence, manage challenges, and feel supported both mentally and emotionally. I understand firsthand how impactful strong relationships can be, especially in high-pressure environments like athletics. I want to be someone who provides that same level of support and connection to others. In addition, I am developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I hope to create a sense of connection for individuals who may feel alone in their experiences and encourage open conversations around mental health. My relationship with my mom has shown me that meaningful connections are built through resilience, trust, and unconditional support. It has shaped who I am, how I connect with others, and what I hope to build in the future. I am committed to carrying these lessons forward and using them to create positive, lasting connections within my community and beyond.
    Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue a degree in healthcare through sport and performance psychology because of my firsthand understanding of how deeply mental and physical health are connected. As a student-athlete, I have experienced multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries. While I received the necessary physical treatment to recover, I quickly realized that the mental and emotional aspects of recovery were just as important, yet often overlooked. I faced challenges such as fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty about my future in sport. These experiences showed me that healthcare is not only about treating physical conditions, but also about supporting individuals mentally and emotionally. Through my recovery, I became aware of a gap in how athletes are supported. Physical rehabilitation is often prioritized, while the psychological side of recovery does not always receive the same level of attention. This realization led me to pursue sport and performance psychology as a path within the healthcare field. I want to be part of a system that treats the whole individual, recognizing that mental health is a critical component of overall well-being, recovery, and performance. As I continue my education, I am working toward a career where I can support athletes in managing both the mental and physical demands of competition. I am particularly interested in helping individuals navigate challenges such as injury recovery, performance anxiety, and identity transitions. These experiences can significantly impact a person’s confidence and sense of self, and I believe that providing proper mental health support can improve both their performance and overall quality of life. As a woman pursuing a career in healthcare, I hope to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment within the field. Women bring valuable perspectives to healthcare, particularly in areas such as empathy, communication, and patient-centered care. I aim to use these strengths to build trust with the individuals I work with and create spaces where people feel comfortable seeking support. I also hope to serve as a role model for other women interested in both healthcare and athletics, showing that it is possible to succeed in fields where women have not always been equally represented. In addition to my academic goals, I have taken steps to advocate for mental health within my community. I have supported other athletes through injury recovery by offering guidance and encouragement based on my own experiences. I am also developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I aim to create open conversations about mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding these challenges. I hope to make a positive impact in healthcare by helping individuals feel supported, understood, and mentally prepared to face the challenges in front of them. By combining my personal experiences with my education, I am committed to contributing to a healthcare field that prioritizes both physical and mental well-being. As a woman in this field, I am motivated to help create a more compassionate, inclusive, and effective approach to care.
    Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because of my commitment to personal growth, academic improvement, and my dedication to making a meaningful impact through both my experiences and future goals. Throughout my college journey, I have faced challenges that tested my resilience and discipline, but I have consistently worked to overcome them and continue moving forward. These experiences have shaped not only my academic path, but also my character and long-term ambitions. My academic journey has been one of steady growth and development. I began my college career at Mercer County Community College, where I worked to establish a strong foundation while balancing athletics and personal challenges. At that time, I was still learning how to manage the demands of being both a student and an athlete, and my academic performance did not fully reflect my potential. However, as I continued my education, I became more focused and intentional in my approach to school. I am now continuing my studies at Ramapo College, where I have significantly improved my academic performance and maintained a strong GPA. This progress reflects my ability to learn from past experiences and demonstrates my commitment to becoming a more disciplined and dedicated student. In addition to my academic growth, athletics have played a central role in shaping who I am. As a competitive soccer player, I have developed important skills such as teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. My athletic career, however, has not been without obstacles. I have experienced multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, which required long and difficult recovery periods. These injuries challenged me both physically and mentally, forcing me to develop resilience and a strong mindset in order to continue pursuing my goals. There were moments where I questioned whether I would be able to return to the level I once competed at, but I remained committed to my recovery and continued to push forward. Through these experiences, I learned how to manage adversity and maintain focus even when faced with uncertainty. I also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of mental strength and perseverance, not only in athletics but in all areas of life. These lessons have carried over into my academic work and have helped me approach challenges with a more determined and positive mindset. Beyond my role as an athlete, I have also gained valuable experience working as a Sports Statistician at Ramapo College. In this position, I assist with data collection and analysis for athletic programs, working closely with coaches and team staff. This role has strengthened my attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work within a team-oriented environment. It has also allowed me to stay connected to athletics while gaining insight into the operational side of sports. Additionally, I have been actively involved in mentoring younger athletes and supporting individuals who are going through injury recovery. Having experienced the challenges of rehabilitation myself, I understand how difficult that process can be both physically and mentally. I strive to provide encouragement and guidance to others, helping them feel supported and motivated during challenging times. These experiences have been some of the most meaningful parts of my journey, as they have allowed me to make a positive impact on others. One of my most important initiatives is the development of my podcast, The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I aim to create open conversations about mental health and provide support to individuals who may feel isolated in their experiences. This project reflects my commitment to both personal growth and helping others, while also allowing me to engage with the field I hope to pursue in the future. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, where I can support athletes in developing confidence, resilience, and mental strength. My goal is to help individuals navigate challenges such as injury, performance pressure, and identity transitions, drawing from both my personal experiences and my education. I am passionate about creating environments where individuals feel supported both physically and mentally, and I am committed to contributing to a field that prioritizes overall well-being. Receiving this scholarship would provide meaningful financial support as I continue my education and work toward my goals. It would allow me to focus more fully on my academic and professional development while continuing to pursue opportunities that help me grow and make a difference. I am committed to making the most of every opportunity I am given and to using my experiences to contribute to a stronger, more supportive community.
    Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Aim Higher" Scholarship
What I hope to build in the future is not just a career, but a system of support for athletes that prioritizes mental health alongside physical performance. Through my education and experiences, I am working toward building a path in sport and performance psychology where athletes feel understood, supported, and prepared to navigate both the physical and mental demands of competition. As a student-athlete who has experienced multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, I came to understand that recovery is not only physical. While I was able to receive treatment for my injuries, the mental challenges—fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty—were often left unaddressed. This experience showed me a gap in how athletes are supported, and it became the foundation for what I want to build moving forward. Through my education, I am building the knowledge and skills necessary to work in this field and create meaningful change. I am pursuing a career in sport and performance psychology with the goal of helping athletes develop confidence, resilience, and mental strength. I want to build environments where mental health is not overlooked, but instead is treated as a critical part of success. This includes supporting athletes during injury recovery, helping them manage performance pressure, and guiding them through identity transitions both within and outside of sport. In addition to my academic path, I am also building a platform through my podcast, The In-Between. This project focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through open conversations, I hope to create a space where individuals feel less alone in their experiences and more comfortable discussing mental health. By sharing these stories, I aim to reduce stigma and encourage a more supportive and understanding community. What I am building is not limited to my own future, but extends to the impact I hope to have on others. By combining my education, personal experiences, and commitment to mental health advocacy, I want to contribute to a culture where athletes are supported both physically and mentally. This will not only benefit individuals, but also strengthen communities by promoting well-being, resilience, and open dialogue. Building this future will require continued education, dedication, and growth, but I am confident in the direction I am pursuing. I am committed to creating something meaningful—an environment, a platform, and a career that helps others feel supported, understood, and empowered to succeed.
Learner Mental Health Empowerment for Health Students Scholarship
Mental health is important to me as a student because I have experienced firsthand how significantly it can impact both performance and overall well-being. As a student-athlete, I have faced multiple challenges, including two ACL tears and four knee surgeries. While these injuries were physically demanding, the mental and emotional impact was just as difficult. I experienced fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty about my future in the sport that had always been a central part of my identity. These experiences made me realize that mental health is not separate from success, it is a critical part of it. During my recovery, I learned how easily mental health can be overlooked, especially in high-pressure environments like athletics. There is often an expectation to push through pain and remain focused on performance, even when individuals are struggling internally. As a student, balancing academics, athletics, and personal challenges can become overwhelming, and without proper support, it can take a serious toll on both performance and overall well-being. This realization changed how I view success. I began to understand that taking care of mental health is not a weakness, but a necessary part of growth and resilience. Because of these experiences, I have made it a priority to advocate for mental health within my community. One of the most meaningful ways I do this is by supporting other athletes who are going through injury recovery. Having experienced the mental challenges of rehabilitation myself, I offer guidance, encouragement, and reassurance to those who may feel isolated or discouraged. I try to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable opening up about their struggles, knowing that they will be met with understanding rather than judgment. Even small conversations can make a significant difference in helping someone feel less alone. In addition to mentoring others, I am also developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance pressure, and life transitions. Through this platform, I aim to create open and honest conversations about mental health, helping to reduce stigma and provide support to individuals who may not otherwise have access to these discussions. I believe that increasing awareness and normalizing these conversations is essential in building a more supportive and informed community. Mental health advocacy is important to me because I have seen how impactful it can be when individuals feel supported and understood. As I continue my education and pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, I hope to expand my efforts and contribute to environments where mental health is prioritized alongside physical performance. I am committed to helping others navigate their challenges with confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self, while also promoting a culture of openness, empathy, and support.

Education has played a critical role in shaping both my goals and my sense of direction. While my path has not been linear, the experiences I have had throughout my academic and athletic journey have helped me better understand who I am and what I want to pursue. Over time, education has become more than just a requirement—it has become a tool for growth, resilience, and purpose. It has allowed me to turn challenges into opportunities for learning and has given me the foundation to build a meaningful future. One of the most significant challenges I have faced has been navigating multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries. These injuries did not only affect me physically, but also mentally and emotionally. During recovery, I struggled with fear of re-injury, loss of confidence, and uncertainty about whether I would be able to return to the level of performance I once had. There were moments where I questioned my identity as an athlete and what my future would look like if I could not continue playing the sport that had been such a large part of my life. Balancing these challenges while continuing my education required a level of discipline and perseverance that I had not previously experienced. Despite these obstacles, my education provided me with structure and purpose during difficult times. It gave me something to stay focused on when other parts of my life felt uncertain. I learned how to manage my time, stay organized, and remain committed to my goals even when progress felt slow. More importantly, I began to shift my mindset from simply trying to overcome challenges to learning from them. This change in perspective allowed me to grow not only academically, but also personally. My academic journey itself has been one of growth and transformation. I began my college career at Mercer County Community College, where I worked to establish a foundation while balancing athletics and personal setbacks. At that time, I was still learning how to manage the demands of both school and sport, and my academic performance did not fully reflect my potential. However, as I continued to grow and mature, I became more focused and intentional in my approach to education. I am now continuing my studies at Ramapo College, where I have significantly improved my academic performance and developed a stronger sense of direction. This progression has taught me that success is not defined by where you start, but by the effort and commitment you put into improving over time. Through both my education and my experiences as an athlete, I discovered my passion for sport and performance psychology. My injuries played a major role in this realization, as they exposed me to the mental challenges that athletes face during recovery and competition. I came to understand that returning to play is not solely a physical process, but one that requires confidence, emotional resilience, and psychological readiness. This realization gave me a clear direction for my future and motivated me to pursue a path where I can support others facing similar challenges. In addition to my academic work, I have taken steps to engage with this field outside of the classroom. I have mentored athletes who are going through injury recovery, offering guidance and support based on my own experiences. I am also developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury, performance, and life transitions. Through this platform, I hope to create a space where individuals feel understood and supported, and where conversations around mental health can be more open and accessible. Looking ahead, I hope to use my education to create a better future not only for myself, but for others as well. I plan to pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, where I can work directly with athletes to support both their performance and overall well-being. My goal is to help individuals navigate challenges such as injury recovery, performance pressure, and identity transitions, while also promoting confidence and mental resilience. I believe that mental health is a critical component of success, and I am committed to contributing to a field that prioritizes both performance and well-being. Beyond my specific career goals, I also hope to make a broader impact by helping to shift how mental health is viewed within athletics and other high-pressure environments. Too often, mental struggles are overlooked or minimized, and individuals are expected to perform without the support they need. Through my work, I want to help create environments where mental health is taken seriously and where individuals feel comfortable seeking help. My journey has shown me that challenges can shape direction and purpose. Education has given me the opportunity to turn setbacks into motivation and uncertainty into clarity. It has provided me with the tools to grow, adapt, and move forward with confidence. I am committed to using my education not only to achieve my own goals, but also to support others in reaching their full potential and building a better future.

My values have been shaped by both my experiences as an athlete and the challenges I have faced throughout my academic and personal journey. The values that guide me most are resilience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting others. These principles have not only influenced how I approach challenges in my own life, but also how I plan to contribute to the field of mental health. Resilience has been one of the most important values I have developed. After experiencing multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, I was forced to confront both physical and mental challenges. Recovery required patience, discipline, and the ability to continue pushing forward despite uncertainty. Through this process, I learned that setbacks do not define a person, but rather how they respond to those setbacks. This mindset has carried over into my academic and personal life, shaping how I approach obstacles and growth. Equally important to me is empathy. During my own recovery, I experienced firsthand how isolating and mentally challenging injury can be. This led me to begin supporting other athletes who were going through similar experiences. Whether through offering advice, encouragement, or simply listening, I recognized how meaningful it is to have someone who understands what you are going through. This experience reinforced my belief that empathy is essential in any field related to mental health. People need to feel heard, understood, and supported, especially during difficult times. My commitment to community and service has also played a significant role in shaping my values. Through mentoring younger athletes in the West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association and supporting individuals in injury recovery, I have learned the importance of creating environments where people feel encouraged and valued. I am also developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological challenges athletes face during injury and performance. This initiative reflects my desire to create open conversations around mental health and provide support to those who may feel alone in their experiences. These values will directly inform my future work in the field of mental health. As I pursue a career in sport and performance psychology, I aim to support individuals in navigating challenges such as injury, performance pressure, and identity transitions. I believe that effective mental health work goes beyond theory and requires genuine connection, understanding, and a commitment to helping others grow. By applying resilience, empathy, and a service-oriented mindset, I hope to make a meaningful impact on individuals and the communities I am a part of.

I am a dedicated student-athlete whose life has been shaped by both competition and perseverance. Soccer has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember, and through it, I have developed discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic. Balancing academics and athletics has taught me how to manage my time effectively while continuing to push myself to grow both on and off the field. My family has played a significant role in supporting my journey and shaping the person I am today. They have always encouraged me to stay committed to my goals, even during difficult times. Throughout my athletic career, I have faced major challenges, including multiple knee injuries, two ACL tears, and four surgeries. These setbacks tested not only my physical strength but also my mental resilience. There were moments when continuing to play felt uncertain, but with the support of my family and my determination to keep going, I was able to overcome those challenges. One of the most defining experiences in my journey was studying and playing soccer abroad in Rome, Italy. After working through the recovery process, I returned to competition while being more than 4,000 miles away from home. Navigating this experience on my own forced me to grow both as an athlete and as a person. I had to manage the pressures of returning to play while adapting to a completely new environment. This experience strengthened my independence and reinforced my ability to persevere through uncertainty. It also deepened my appreciation for the opportunities I have been given through athletics. Academically, I began my college career at Mercer County Community College, where I balanced my coursework with competitive soccer. I am now continuing my education at Ramapo College, where I have strengthened my academic performance and focused on my long-term goals. In addition to my studies, I work as a Sports Statistician, which has allowed me to stay connected to athletics while gaining experience working with teams and analyzing performance. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a career in sport and performance psychology. My goal is to help athletes navigate the mental challenges that come with competition, injury, and pressure. Having experienced these challenges myself, I am passionate about supporting others in developing confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity both within and outside of sport. Being a student-athlete has taught me that success is not defined by avoiding challenges, but by how you respond to them. Through my experiences, I have developed the drive, discipline, and perspective necessary to continue growing and making a positive impact. I am committed to using everything I have learned to build a future where I can support others while continuing to pursue excellence in both academics and athletics.

I am pursuing a degree in the mental health field because I have seen firsthand how deeply mental and emotional challenges can affect an individual’s life, especially in moments when support is needed the most. As a competitive athlete who has experienced multiple knee injuries, including two ACL tears and four surgeries, I came to understand that recovery is not only physical, but also mental and emotional. While I was able to receive medical treatment for my injuries, I often felt that the psychological aspects of recovery—fear, identity loss, and uncertainty—were not addressed in the same way. This experience shaped my decision to pursue a career where I can support others through both the physical and mental challenges they face. Through my own journey, I developed a strong awareness of how isolating mental health struggles can be, particularly when individuals feel misunderstood or unsupported. This has motivated me to pursue a path in sport and performance psychology, where I can work with athletes navigating injury, performance anxiety, and identity transitions. I believe that mental health care should be integrated into all aspects of well-being, especially in environments like athletics where performance is often prioritized over emotional health. I also recognize that mental health challenges are complex and often interconnected with other struggles, including substance use and identity loss. One of the most important changes I hope to contribute to in the mental health field is creating more accessible, personalized, and empathetic care. Too often, individuals are treated as cases rather than people, and their experiences are not fully understood. I want to be part of a system that prioritizes listening, connection, and individualized support, ensuring that people feel seen and heard during some of their most difficult moments. In addition to my academic goals, I have taken steps to engage with mental health awareness through mentoring athletes and developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences individuals face during injury and life transitions. This platform is intended to create open and honest conversations about mental health, helping to reduce stigma and provide support to those who may feel alone in their experiences. My goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others by providing support that goes beyond surface-level care. I want to help individuals navigate challenges with confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of identity. By combining my personal experiences with professional training, I am committed to contributing to a more compassionate and effective mental health system—one that truly supports individuals when they need it most.

My career goal is to work within the sports industry in a role that allows me to support athletes both in their performance and overall development. Through my experiences as a competitive soccer player and as a Sports Statistician at Ramapo College, I have developed a strong interest in the behind-the-scenes aspects of sports, including performance analysis, communication, and athlete support. While my long-term focus is in sport and performance psychology, I am equally interested in roles that involve working closely with athletic programs, contributing to team environments, and supporting athletes in meaningful ways. Through my role as a Sports Statistician, I have gained experience analyzing performance data and working alongside coaches and athletic staff. This position has shown me how important accuracy, attention to detail, and communication are in sports settings. In addition, my experience as an athlete has given me firsthand insight into how performance is influenced by both physical and mental factors. I have also begun developing a podcast titled The In-Between, which focuses on the psychological experiences athletes face during injury, performance challenges, and identity transitions. This project has strengthened my communication skills and allowed me to engage with sports from a media and storytelling perspective. I believe that some of the most important skills for success in the sports field include strong communication, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively in team environments. Attention to detail and the ability to analyze performance are also essential, particularly in roles that support athletes and coaching staff. I plan to continue building these skills through my academic studies, hands-on experiences, and continued involvement in athletic environments. I am especially motivated to seek out opportunities that allow me to grow both professionally and personally while contributing to team success. In addition to my professional goals, I strive to demonstrate kindness and generosity in my everyday life. One of the most meaningful ways I have done this is through mentoring younger athletes and supporting individuals recovering from injury. After experiencing multiple ACL injuries myself, I began helping other athletes navigate the challenges of rehabilitation by offering guidance, encouragement, and support. I understand how difficult this process can be, and I value the opportunity to help others feel less alone during that time. I have also given back to my community through my involvement with the West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association, where I served as a coach’s assistant and mentor to younger players. I believe that success in the sports industry is not only defined by knowledge and skill, but also by the ability to positively impact others. Whether through communication, mentorship, or teamwork, I am committed to contributing to environments where athletes feel supported and motivated to succeed. Through my experiences, I have developed both the drive and the compassion necessary to pursue a career in sports while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Serving my community is important to me because it has always been a place where I both grew and found support, and I believe it is equally important to give back in meaningful ways. Through my involvement in soccer and local organizations such as my church, I have seen how small acts of mentorship and encouragement can have a lasting impact on others. Being part of a community means contributing to something larger than yourself, and I value the opportunity to support others as they develop confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging. One of the most meaningful ways I have served my community has been through my involvement with the West Windsor-Plainsboro Soccer Association, where I was both a player and later a coach’s assistant and mentor to younger athletes. In this role, I worked closely with players as they developed not only their technical skills, but also their confidence and teamwork. I recognized that being a mentor extended beyond coaching, as younger athletes often looked to me for guidance and encouragement. This experience showed me how important it is to create a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and motivated to grow. In addition to working with youth athletes, I have also supported members of my community through mentorship during injury recovery. After experiencing multiple ACL injuries myself, I began helping other athletes navigate the physical and mental challenges of rehabilitation. I understand how isolating and discouraging injury can feel, and being able to offer support, encouragement, and perspective has been one of the most meaningful ways I have given back. These experiences reinforced my belief that community service is not limited to formal roles, but can also be found in everyday acts of support and connection. My involvement in church and community activities has also shaped my values and reinforced the importance of service. Through these experiences, I have learned that serving others requires empathy, consistency, and a willingness to be present for those who need support. It has taught me that even small contributions can make a difference in someone’s life. Serving my community is important to me because it allows me to give back to the people and environments that have helped shape who I am. It has strengthened my sense of purpose and has shown me the value of supporting others in both their successes and challenges. I am committed to continuing this mindset in both my personal life and future career, where I hope to make a meaningful impact on those around me.

I am looking to be a sports psychologist in regards to athletes with long term of life ending injuries, and how their mental health is affected. With having three knee surgeries and being out of my sport for years, the road to recovery hasn't been easy, and to me it's all mental. It's up to you, and as I'm currently in recovery from my second ACL tear, this made me realize that I wanted to be a sports psychologist even more, because I currently wish that I had one. In sports psychology, core values include excellence, resilience, integrity, teamwork, and growth. These values provide aid for addressing mental and emotional aspects of performance, while also encouraging personal and professional development. In excellence, we're aiming for a peak performance by keeping focus, discipline and dedication. Resilience is building mental toughness, which can be a tough one, also being able to handle pressure and setbacks with its challenges. We have integrity, encouraging ethical behavior, trust and accountability in sports but also in life. Teamwork promotes collaboration and communication, and growth would be focusing on improving continuously and being able to learn how to adapt. Mental health is a part of sports psychology, as it directly influences the athlete's performance and well being. When we apply these values of sports psychology to mental health involves creating a balance between trying to be the best in your sport and also nurturing your emotions and psychological needs. We need to help athletes manage performance anxiety and focus on achieving their personal best without compromising their mental health. This includes setting goals that are realistic and visualizing success. An athlete also can struggle with perfectionism and can work on embracing progress over perfections, and we can help that with a positive reinforcement and work environment. Being resilient is another one. Teaching strategies to cope with setback like injuries, getting worn out, or even losing a loved one in ones personal life. These can be an opportunity for growth and using mental skills like visualization and self talk. Another example is an injured athlete could use resilience training to stay mentally engaged by setting goals in physical therapy and visualizing a successful return to playing their sport again. For me personally and my current recovery, visualization is huge for me. Finally, encouragement is another one thats huge. Encouraging athletes to view challenges as opportunities for personal development, not just in sports but also in real life too. Eventually, these skills can lead to overall growth beyond ones athletic ability, but in their personal career as well.
