Marie Humphries Memorial Scholarship
For most of my life, I have been driven by the desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Whether it was raising my children, volunteering in my community, or helping my friends navigate their struggles, I found deep satisfaction in giving back. However, I never truly realized the full potential of my impact until I recognized that my true calling was in teaching. Homeschooling my children and helping tutor others struggling in math and reading, cemented this strong desire to continue this journey. I saw firsthand how meaningful the role of a teacher can be in a child’s life. Connecting with them, teaching them according to their learning style, and meeting them where they were, showed me the limitless possibilities of unlocking their love of learning and releasing their true personalities. Yet, I continued to delay pursuing my dream, convinced that it was too late to start over.
A scholarship represents more than financial assistance to me- it is an affirmation of belief, Opportunity and renewed possibility. As a 42-year-old mother returning to pursue my academic goals, this scholarship would ease the financial burden that often comes with balancing tuition, family responsibilities, and everyday living expenses. It would allow me to focus more fully on my studies, rather than constantly worrying about how to stretch our limited resources. Knowing that individuals or organizations have chosen it invest in my education gives me a deep sense of encouragement and motivation to succeed. As a woman returning to school later in life, I know that my experience brings a unique perspective to the classroom.
As a parent, my education is not only about personal growth but also about setting a tangible example of perseverance, lifelong learning and resilience. I Understand the struggles of balancing multiple roles and responsibilities, and I also appreciate the value of hard work and perseverance. This support is even more meaningful because my daughter is also a student at this college; she is a junior. Being able to share this journey with her and alongside her is incredibly powerful and inspiring for both of us. A privately funded scholarship would help me remain committed to my studies, achieve my goals and build a stronger future for my family while continuing to contribute positively to my community. I want to be a teacher who sees every student as a unique individual with strengths and potential; teaching them to believe in themselves while helping them unlock their dreams.
In the end, it is about more than just credentials or earning a degree; it is about creating the life that aligns with my true calling and embracing my purpose. I am excited about the future, about the students I will teach, and about the legacy that I will leave. Thank you for considering my application. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity.
