Bio

I am a driven high school student interested in Psychology and Business. As a passionate volunteer, straight ‘A’ student, business owner, dedicated gymnast, and a lacrosse player, I am a well-rounded person who takes on the challenges and pressures of everyday life. I believe that my dedication to extracurricular and academic excellence, fueled by my positive outlook and can-do attitude, will allow me to challenge myself and contribute to an academically strong and inclusive environment. For the past four years of high school, I have not only been a part of multiple school sports, but I have also been in numerous clubs and organizations. I have learned leadership, teamwork, collaboration and sportsmanship skills from being a gymnastics captain, lacrosse player and business owner. I was also awarded with the Silver Award due to my ability to improve my community and work with other girls, an award that only 10% of Girl Scouts achieve. This fulfills my aspiration for leadership, volunteering and helping people as a result of Girl Scouts. From ASL Club to lacrosse, I have learned the values of teamwork and cooperation. These skills are crucial for my dream career field, management consulting. In my future, I would love to apply these values to continue helping people, experiencing new adventures, and making an impact on whoever I meet.

    “The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
Finding Myself in Pam Beasley: "I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I'm gonna do something great." As a high school girl watching "The Office," I didn't just see myself in the character of Pam Beesley but found a deep resonance with her. Throughout the show, I was sincerely moved by Pam’s journey from shy receptionist to confident woman. Her struggles, insecurities, growth, and moments of humor at work reflected my own experiences and aspirations as a young woman. Pam's character development is something I can relate to. At first, she is self-conscious and lacks self-confidence, as many of us do in high school. But as the series progresses, Pam gains confidence in herself and her abilities, something I strive for as I move through school and life. One thing I really love about Pam is her smile. In the office, he always finds a way to lighten the mood with his witty remarks and playfulness. Whether it’s teasing Jim or joking around with her co-workers, Pam’s sense of humor makes the office feel a little less stressful and more fun. One example of Pam's sense of humor at work is her interactions with Jim. Their playful banter and inside jokes are a constant source of amusement, and when I watch them enjoy themselves back and forth, they always make me laugh. It’s nice to know that you find fun and funny moments even in a boring office job. I learned that you can be happier with a positive and can-do attitude. But it’s not just Pam’s sense of humor that I admire – her resilience and honesty. She isn’t afraid to be herself, even when it’s hard. That’s something I aspire to do as I go through the ups and downs and the successes and failures. Her character shaped my view on personal and professional growth not just during my high school years as well as heading to college. Here are my 3 favorite Pam's quotes: "There's a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn't that kind of the point?" "I'm sorry, but I don't want to live in a world where someone else makes the world a better place better than we do." "I don't know what I'm gonna do, but I'm gonna do something great." In conclusion, Pam Beesly's character in "The Office" serves as a source of my inspiration and empowerment for female viewers like myself. She's genuine, warm hearted, humble and sincere. Her thoughtful, empathetic and sincere character creates a role model for young women like me. The journey of her self-discovery and empowerment reminds me that it’s okay to be me, flaws and all, and that with a little humor and a lot of determination, I can confidently achieve anything I set my mind to.

When I was five years old, I put on my Girl Scouts uniform for the first time. The bright blue tunic marked the start of my journey as a Daisy. I never anticipated that this would ignite a lifelong passion for helping others through the Girl Scout values. From volunteering at food pantries, providing clothes for those in need, to being a counselor at Girl Scouts Day camps, I’ve dedicated countless hours to contribute to my community and have enjoyed every minute of it. These experiences have instilled empathy and compassion in me, evolving my passion to create a positive impact on people’s lives. Naturally, this path has led me to exploring the psychology field. This feels like the ideal path which will allow me to utilize my experiences and build on my interests. What does it take to be a good psychologist? There are many required skills but, in my opinion, one must have great active listening, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, patience, awareness, and empathy as well as developed problem-solving and analytical skills. I learned invaluable lessons in communication, self-awareness, critical thinking, quick decision making, and teamwork during my seven years of playing club and high school lacrosse. Additionally, serving as a president of the American Sign Language club and a gymnastics captain in my high school has enabled me to learn patience, leadership, and active listening skills. These roles also allowed me to strengthen my natural instincts for compassion, composure, and understanding. I am drawn to the intersection of neuroscience and psychology because it is more than just a professional goal for me. My interest is fueled not only by the prospect of aiding others but also by a deep personal connection. Watching my twin brother endure the hardships of a neurological illness has motivated me to get into the scientific field that studies the brain and behaviors. I have seen the helplessness and despair that battling a serious illness brings. I hope to be able to help him and what better way to do that than to specialize in psychology and neuroscience fields that would give me an understanding of his brain on a deeper level. The CU Boulder Psychology and Neuroscience programs represent a chance to be on the forefront of an amazing science, one that holds the potential to positively impact lives. I am determined to excel in this field and merge my natural aptitude to assist people with my own encounters with neurodivergent challenges. It is not only a professional aspiration but also a deeply personal mission that I am dedicated to pursuing. I am honored to apply for this scholarship, and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to share my story. Through this adversity, I became stronger and more determined which will help me to pursue my academic as well as personal goals and ambitions. As my parent take care of my brother's medical requirements, I have a pressing need for financial help. It will propel me to reach my academic targets and allow me to keep going after my dreams without shaking my confidence. I am committed to have a positive influence on others around me and use what I've been through to encourage others who are up against similar challenges. Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to the opportunity to continue making a difference in my community.

Got lemons? Make lemonade! My story of finding a different purpose in life. By Eliska Ondrusek Chronic disease can manifest in a variety of ways, from autoimmune conditions to diabetes, and in my case, early signs of hip dysplasia. As an athlete who participates heavily in competitive lacrosse and gymnastics, this diagnosis two years ago was disappointing news. Not only was I struggling with the physical pain, but I was also realizing that this condition was genetic and out of my control. At first, despite reassurances from others, I struggled to accept this reality, feeling that my life would never be the same. However, through perseverance and inner strength, I've learned to face this challenge head-on on a daily basis. This diagnosis dramatically changed the course of my life, especially as I approached my senior year of high school where I received three offers to play college lacrosse at Division II schools. However, with my doctor predicting that my condition would not improve, I made an agonizing decision to walk away and prioritize my health over athletic aspirations. Turning down these offers was one of the hardest choices I had to make, but I realized that pushing through pain during workouts or sports would only make my condition worse. This decision freed up my previous acting time and allowed me to turn my attention and all my energies into a business that I started with my best friend: our jewelry business. We have been making beautiful friendship bracelets and chains for the past three years. Starting out with absolutely no knowledge of the online industry, we meticulously crafted our business identity, managed finances, marketing, and prepared our listings. We finally launched our Etsy store, called EK Bracelets. Our launch was amazing, but we encountered challenges with an internal organization, leading to complications in marketing and order fulfillment. Some orders were duplicated, and some were missed. Recognizing the need for improvement, my partner and I sat down and openly discussed our strengths and weaknesses. We realigned our roles and responsibilities accordingly, with me excelling in finances and order fulfillment, while my friend managed our social media presence. Through trial and error, we learned the importance of effective communication and collaboration in running a successful small business. As we celebrate the third year of our business, we remain dedicated to growth and improvement. Seeking advice from our community and leveraging their support has been instrumental in our success. I am honored to apply for this scholarship, and I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to share my story with you. Through this adversity, I became stronger and more determined which will help me to pursue my academic as well as personal goals and ambitions. Since I lost my D2 sports scholarship, I have a pressing need for financial help so I can reach my academic targets and allow me to keep going after my dreams without shaking my confidence. I am committed to have a positive influence on others around me and use what I've been through to encourage others who are up against similar challenges. Thank you for considering my application and I look forward to the opportunity to continue making a difference in my community.
