The film is a lighthearted drama that focuses on a daughter and the struggles she endures while caring for her aging, feisty mother who is experiencing early signs of Alzheimer’s. The objective of the film is to let anyone know who is going through this disease or knows someone who is, that they are not alone. Our goal is to raise awareness, foster empathy and educate so people watching can better understand the condition and the realities and challenges of people living with the condition face. Our last goal is to portray a character with Alzheimer’s as whole, complex individual, not defined solely by their illness, and to show how we can help those with the condition preserve their dignity. We are being supported by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America so we can put a PSA at the end of the film and add a phone number so anyone who is struggling with the disease knows where to call and get the help and support they need. Our financial needs go towards the production and distribution. This is a SAG/AFTRA microbudget film but we did not want to defer any pay to any of our cast or crew. This scholarship will help go towards making sure everyone is paid what they deserve. On a more personal note, this film means a lot to me. This is my first film that I wrote with my husband and our first film we are producing as well. The story came from my personal life experience as both my father (this year) and grandmother passed away from the disease. My father was a huge film lover but unfortunately he never got to see my work. Writing it was actually very easy as the words formed themselves after living through it. I have first hand experience with what it takes to care for someone with dementia and how hard it is on everyone. The story reflects many conversations I have had in the past with my loved ones. This scholarship will also help me get that PSA out to more people as we plan to submit to multiple festivals around the country. At the end of the day, this film means a lot to me and my family. We live in very uncertain times when all we see around us is hate and cruelty. It is my greatest hope that my film encourages connection, promotes reflection and above all inspires hope and compassion.
