Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
I am determined to serve as many deserving individuals in my community as possible as I begin to work as a physical therapist. I plan to specialize in both pediatric and pelvic floor therapy. As a woman in healthcare, I am very aware of the need for female providers and their knowledge on women's bodies. As I have worked as a physical therapy technician, I have had the privilege of working with many female patients who either preferred or had cultural or religious limitations requiring them to only work with females in the clinic. It made me realize how important it is as a woman to be available for these patients as well as how much of an impact I am able to make in the field. Another mission of mine as I enter the workforce is to create a welcoming and safe environment for every patient and therapist I interact with. I have had negative experiences in healthcare as a patient and they have led me to not return to the provider and not receive the care I should have. It is a goal of mine to provide a positive and comfortable experience to each individual I have the honor to work with so they are eager and willing to return for their follow up sessions. I have worked with very inspirational physical therapists during my time as a physical therapy technician that have showed me what it takes to be successful. I will take the skills that I have gained through working with them as well as the education I am preparing to start this August as a very confident physical therapist ready to serve my community.
During my time as a physical therapy tech, I have worked with individuals of all walks of life and I have been challenged many times to adapt programs and care to properly benefit each patient. The experience I have gained working with each patient has not only helped me grow as a technician, but also as a person. I have developed very strong connections with many patients and look forward to seeing them each day. I have learned how important it is to foster strong connections and initiate proper communication with my patients as well as making sure they complete safe and effective exercise. The interpersonal skills required to work as a physical therapist go just as far as the hands on experience. I am grateful for all that I have learned and am eager to continue my education as I start my graduate studies this fall.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) MOA Scholarship
1. I found TXT in late 2019 when I saw a fancam of Yeonjun and Soobin dancing to "Cat & Dog."
2. One of the most important aspects of being a MOA is always showing your support to the members as well as others in the community. As a KPOP fan, I have learned how important togetherness is and how using your community to uplift others can help.
3. My TXT bias is Soobin. I chose Soobin because he is a strong leader and he inspires me to lead others with compassion and strong will.
4. My ult bias is Jaehyun from NCT. I love his voice and think he is a very strong performer.
5. My favorite TXT song is definitely "No Rules." I love the carefree vibe of the song and the performance video is one of my very favorite videos to watch. I love their stage concept and outfits in that specific video!
6. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to see TXT in concert yet. They have come to my area before but I did not have the funds to see them and I was in college at the time. I would love to see them live and hope I get the chance to see them soon!
7. My favorite album concept is definitely The Name Chapter: FREEFALL (Melancholy). I love Yeonjun and Huening Kai's orange hair and the beautiful dog in the concept photos. I think that concept is very cohesive and they all look amazing.
8. I am currently using loans to pay for school. Unfortunately, the government chose to cut graduate school funding severely and I am suffering. I have taken out the maximum amount that FAFSA provides and am having to seek out private loans to cover the rest of the expenses including my rent and groceries. I understand that it is out of my hands and I have to do whatever it takes to get the best education possible but it is a massive financial burden that I will have to face upon graduation.
9. This scholarship would help me immensely. I am having to move closer to campus due to how involved my graduate program is going to be and that is costing me greatly in rent and living expenses. I could use this money to purchase textbooks, course materials, and cover some of my rent. I am pinching pennies everywhere I can but everything I have saved thus far is going to first month's rent and various deposits required for move in.
10. TXT has created an incredibly positive community that I am incredibly grateful to be a part of. I have made so many friends and memories throughout my time listening to them and will carry my experiences close to my heart forever. The members have fostered a very uplifting and safe environment for MOA and I try and embody this as I make connections with new people in my everyday life.
11. I will use my education to provide physical therapy to as many patients as possible. My mission as a physical therapist is to provide pelvic floor therapy to women who are in need. Pelvic floor therapy is incredibly hard to find and when you do find one, they do not have any availability. I will specialize in this as well as pediatric physical therapy so I can serve the communities I am passionate about. As a woman in healthcare, I understand the importance of having female providers available and want to be able to provide as many patients with quality care as possible. There are so many patients that deserve proper healthcare and do not have the opportunity to access it due to varying cultural and/or religious backgrounds and only being able to see female providers. I am eager to enter the field and be that provider for so many deserving individuals.
Champions Of A New Path Scholarship
I deserve this scholarship because I am incredibly driven and eager to complete my graduate studies in physical therapy and enter the workforce. I have been working as a physical therapy technician for the past three years alongside very influential therapists and have seen what it takes to be successful in this field. I am taking out loans to pay for my graduate education and while I am completely aware of how this will affect me financially, I know it is what I need to do in order to receive the education I need and deserve. As a woman in healthcare, I understand how important it is to offer a welcoming and safe environment for all patients and I am very excited to be available to patients who otherwise might not seek therapy unless they had access to a female provider. I am at an advantage over other applicants because I am incredibly prepared to start my graduate education and will make the very best out of any financial assistance I happen to receive. I had to borrow money to complete my undergraduate studies and believe it was very worth it because I received a wonderful education. I am very privileged to be able to receive a college degree and now work towards earning a doctorate and I do not take that lightly. However, I also realize that I am only able to be here because of the work that I put into my preparation and previous schooling. I know that I will succeed in physical therapy school and receiving this scholarship would benefit me greatly in being able to purchase textbooks and course supplies. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship and appreciate how it addresses the amount of individuals who have to avoid receiving a higher education simply due to the cost.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I chose to pursue a degree in healthcare because I want to be contribute positive experiences in patient care and continue to grow as an individual and physical therapist alike. The driving force behind my inclination to work in healthcare is my passion for providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for all patients. I am very familiar with healthcare anxiety and how a bad provider experience can turn an individual away from receiving the care that they deserve. My mission as I enter the healthcare field as a physical therapist is to create an environment that patients enjoy being a part of and to teach patients how to advocate for themselves at their healthcare appointments to ensure they are properly taken care of.
As a woman in the healthcare field, I hope to empower other women in the field as well as those receiving my care. I have always prioritized having a female provider when possible because I have always felt more comfortable and listened to by other women. I know that I am not alone in this ideology and want to be the comforting therapist other women will seek out.
During my work as a physical therapy technician, I have made amazing connections with female patients and have learned a lot about the importance of having another woman to work with and be comfortable with when completing physical therapy sessions. Several patients at our clinic have religious beliefs that cause them to need all female providers and that has presented me a lot of opportunities to connect with people I otherwise would not have met. I take great pride in working with these patients because I am the only female technician at my clinic and if I were not there, they would not be able to receive proper physical therapy that they deserve.
I always knew that I wanted to pursue a degree in healthcare but it took me a while to land on physical therapy. Both of my parents have received physical therapy and being able to see the stark differences in the quality of their lives has been very inspiring to me. My dad had both of his knees replaced during the summer before my senior year of high school in hopes of being able to climb the bleachers of the football stadium to watch me as the captain of our cheerleading team. He was able to achieve this goal and many others and having him be more involved in my life has been a blessing. My mom received physical therapy for her lower back as well as trigger point injections and her life has improved significantly in a very short amount of time. I am extremely inspired by their hard work and the treatment they received during physical therapy to enter the field as the best version of myself possible so I can contribute to the improvement of my patients' qualities of life.
