It all started when I was a young seven year old girl. See, when I was a child, I absolutely adored the images of pretty girls standing in front of me. It made me self conscious, but I was also amazed by their ability to look effortlessly perfect. I took it upon my own hands to make myself feel beautiful: I started learning how to do makeup. Cliché, I know, but I believe that my makeup and hair is the most important form of self expression I currently have. Due to my mental illnesses, I often struggle to keep my head up high. I have Borderline Personality Disorder, a disorder in which I lose my sense of self. To stay grounded, I sit down and do my makeup. The colors, scents, and texture all finds its way back to me. That’s why I’m so passionate about the cosmetology field. It helps me in ways that no one can imagine. I’d like to see it help other people the way it helps me. Going on with this idea, I’d like to start a non-profit organization. This organization would be one in which I help the lower class and homeless get haircuts, skincare products, and shaving products. Everyone deserves to have these things, no matter their income. A lot of the time, jobs judge based off of appearance. Many of these people, me who used to be one of them, can’t afford these small luxuries. My goal is to provide and help those with issues getting these products and services. I want to make the world a better place, and help others feel well about themselves.
