    Hindsight 20-20 Essay Scholarship
Yes and no. I believe my California K-12 experience taught me how to build stable work habits, interact with others, and balance my social life with school work. These skills are definitely applicable for the transition to college, but there are many aspects that I feel my experience did not cover. For example, my California K-12 experience spent little time exploring my professional interests and what majors would best suit that specific profession. This inspiration was nurtured through outside sources along with extra studying outside of school. In retrospect, I do wish there were more opportunities to explore these interests in high school. From a personal finance perspective, I feel there was no preparation at all. The transition to college is the start of adulthood for many teenagers and if I were to leave home straight after graduation, I would likely be struggling to save money and would possibly be in debt. There were no tools in my high school that would equip with me with the knowledge of how to save, invest and budget. I would have started college with a poor financial foundation if again I didn't take the time to self learn or have the insight from my parents. I do, however, believe schools are making great efforts to raise the awareness for mental health. Unfortunately, the rates of depression and anxiety in students have been rising in recent years. Throughout my experience within 2 different California districts, I have seen facilities and workshops open up to aid those who needed support. Not everyone used it, but it gave comfort to know that it was at least accessible. Overall, I think my California K-12 experience was beneficial and taught me how to interact with others along with building stable work habits. It taught me time management and how to be punctual. Through school sports, I learned the importance of being part of a team and I learned how to be a leader. I do wish there were more opportunities to help students realize their passion along with financial workshops to prepare students for one of the biggest transitions of their lives.
    Filipino-American Scholarship
I am a Filipino American, and I grew up in the Los Angeles area. From the traditional Filipino food my grandparents used to make, to the music/slang I would learn through my peers; I found myself wandering in between two worlds. This became the creation of the person I am today and how I carry myself even now. However I notice Filipino culture often goes under the radar. When it comes to Asian culture in popular media, it seems like Filipinos are not as prevalent. I want to change that. Even if it's a small ripple. I want to rise up the ranks of marketing as a Filipino American and do my part to bring awareness. To build upon the sacrifices my family has made before me as a 2nd generation Filipino American and do the best I can to support them and the community. It's always amazing to see a fellow Filipino achieve greatness in whatever they pursue in, from Manny Pacquiao (famous boxer) to even Johnny Juzang (rising college athlete). I want to be a person of high regards that people can look up to if they follow the same footsteps. A career in marketing is a dream come true, and I am blessed to have found a passion so early in my life. I recently got into Loyola Marymount University and am excited to thrive in their M pathway program that targets marketing in the modern era of media. However, tuition is quite expensive. I know this university offers the specific courses that will help increase my knowledge and connections to the field, but it comes with a large price tag. My parents are dedicated to have me finish debt free and have already sacrificed so much to get me this far. This is why I'm applying here today, to help in anyway I can. With your support, I know I will have the resources to succeed, and in the spirit of giving back, hope to uplift and serve my communities as well. Thank you for your time.
