Hello! My name is Ellie Gustincic, and I am in my second year of undergraduate education at Oakland University. My individualized academic plan involves coursework in subjects such as psychology, philosophy, and instrumental music. In the future, I seek to continually recombine these three areas of interest into a fulfilling, adaptive career that will satisfy me for a lifetime.
Beyond professional pursuits, I am also fulfilled by other personal commitments and areas of interest. I prioritize leading a service-oriented, meaningful life by frequently volunteering for campus-based events, such as those organized by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. My stints as a day camp worker and nightwatch desk worker, as well as my current part-time job as a barista, further illustrate my emphasis on helping others. In my free time, I enjoy connecting with family, reading classic literature, practicing my musical talents, and engaging in physical activity.
Maintaining an active, balanced involvement in these numerous endeavors inevitably requires time. Any financial aid awarded would ensure that I can sustain this dedicated lifestyle with less worry surrounding the resulting accumulation of financial burdens. This alleviation of pressure will not go unnoticed, and its individual benefits will ripple from my personal life through others in all that I do.
I appreciate your consideration immensely!

Studyist Education Equity Scholarship
I believe educational inequity is something we all should stand for because, ultimately, knowledge is power. If students are not provided equal opportunities to learn within the educational system, their socioeconomic growth is inevitably stunted due to unchecked discrimination and exclusion. Educational inequity prevents economic mobility by enacting a vicious cycle of inequality that is incredibly difficult to escape: structural inequalities result in achievement gaps; achievement gaps create income inequalities; and income inequalities lead back to structural inequalities. This trend is especially prevalent within marginalized communities where the development of fundamental skills in literacy, writing, and arithmetic becomes dependent on aspects of an individual's identity such as race, gender, and socioeconomic status. However, by standing for educational inequity, we can counteract these long-lasting effects of discrimination and prejudice by creating fair and equal learning environments for students nationwide. In doing so, we are instead facilitating economic mobility and the generation of wealth for individuals who, historically, may not have otherwise had these opportunities. This increase in individual prosperity will extend its benefits beyond the individual to their future generations and, furthermore, the common good of all American people. I believe educational inequity is something we all should stand for because it ensures that no great potential is left behind.
