Hi,
My life goals are to obtain a master's in accounting and then sit for the CPA exam so I can become a CPA. I want to own a successful virtual CPA firm. I also want to operate a successful cosmetic business offering natural hair and skincare products.
I am most passionate about making a lasting impact on the lives of others. I can do this through my businesses and by serving my community.
I am a great candidate because I want to make an impact on those I come in contact with. Being awarded this scholarship will put me one step closer to accomplishing my goals.

Cariloop’s Caregiver Scholarship
My name is Edmonia Johnson. I am a single mom of two attending Rutgers University for my Master's in Accounting & Analytics. I provide sole support for my two children, Anaila who is 16, and Christien who is 12. I provide everything for them. My daughter graduates early, which I am excited about, but I've also had unexpected household and auto expenses on top of what I am already responsible for. It is hard sometimes, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. I love being a mom and pouring into my children.
Caregiving has had a positive influence on me. When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I at once went into nurture and protector mode. The father wanted me to abort Naila, but I wasn't doing that and was prepared to do it on my own. Being a mom caused me to be more responsible and driven because I have children to provide for. They do not have anyone else but me to truly provide for them in the way that they deserve to be provided for. Over the past 17 years, I have strived to better myself to provide a better life for my children. I have a determination like none other and want to be a great example to my children. Towards the end of 2023, I decided to go back to school and then work towards my CPA.
This scholarship would help me tremendously with paying for my tuition and graduating on time so that I can begin preparing for the CPA exam. The school just added $5500 to my balance for out-of-state tuition because I joined the program while they were transitioning into the new program that I am now a part of. I have faced many obstacles while trying to obtain this degree, but I will not allow anything to stop me. I plan to get my Master's, take the CPA exam, and then prepare for another certification that will allow me to become a forensic accountant. I hope to join a firm as a staff accountant or entry-level auditor and transition into a forensic accountant position. I will be 40 this year. I hope that my children are lifelong learners and that they do not allow their age or any other obstacle to stop them from achieving their goals. Thank you for this opportunity. I know whoever wins this scholarship, will be well deserving of it.
