But it also gave me a saving light amidst the fog that enveloped my life, finally being able to perceive the reality that has been in front of me this whole time... everyone has a story. Filled with laughter, sorrow, euphoria, and tranquility, from which I took part and began to look at people with more fascination to hear their stories, but to also tell my own. As my perspective grew so did my narrative capabilities, when constructing a story I like to show as much emotion to these characters as possible, not only relying on the story conflict but giving readers/viewers something that they can relate to. When looking at psychology this is prominent due to humans evolving to be social animals, connecting through the art of storytelling and empathy. My style of writing utilizes not only allegories, and characters from which audiences can relate but I utilize other fields of thought to elevate my stories. Some include philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, and when creating films different ways of engineering cameras, color theory, angle perspective, and many more. But I like to go deeper, since like I said humans are social animals that connect through stories, but they are also very curious. From this, I unitize the structures of alternative ways of storytelling. When looking at many forums across the internet people tend to gravitate to Artificial Reality Games, an alternative way to storytelling that breaks the fourth wall. Involving many "easter eggs" and other forms of messaging that come together to further develop a narrative. My personal favorite is auditory and visual primes, also known as subliminal. Which is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as being "(of a stimulus or mental process) below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone's mind without their being aware of it." This inspired me to try to research in my institution and hopefully, double major in Neuroscience to find other ways to get audiences more involved to "climb inside of his skin and walk around in it" (Harper Lee). Providing different stimuli to the brain with primes unitizing the scenes to further push the walls of storytelling. I don't just stop at telling stories I try to fully immerse my audience into worlds that connect people, and entertain, but also give them an opportunity for any individual to escape their world just like it did when I wasn't able to. As I opened my DNA results I uncovered the untold stories of my Indigenous American ancestors. A surprise to everyone due to my paternal side of the family is a big unknown since my grandfather abandoned my father at the age of 5. Being from El Paso and Juarez the stories of natives were silenced and pushed further north to New Mexico or San Elisario, Texas. Given this along with the blank history of my family, I didn't grow up hearing about stories of culture leaving a gap deep inside me that urged me to find out the truth. Being a sophomore in high school I had somewhat of an idea of the history of the mass mistreatment of natives in the US. I had to start somewhere so I contacted my grandmother to find out any sort of information that she might be aware of, apart from the many questions that I had going through my mind. She told me that both she and my grandfather have native ancestry but since my grandparents grew up in Mexico it was taboo to even mention it due to the lingering influence of the Spanish Caste system, resulting in also her being somewhat unaware of our blood. She mentioned how throughout her side of the family we have Indigenous blood from areas of Northern Chihuahua, Weste Texas, and Southern New Mexico, but that my grandfather's side had Náhuatl and Otomí blood, which made sense since he was from Mexico City. She also mentioned how when I was little everyone used to always say that I looked like Roshan, the baby son of a tribal chief from the Ice Age. When thinking of it I was always bullied by my eyes, due to having my "ojos rasgados" or having Asian-looking eyes, resulting in me always wondering why my eyes were shaped like this. But my grandma gave me the answer to some of my questions. She passed me to my great-grandmother because she after all could give me more information after she was 93 years old. Filled with excitement I repeated my questions to her, to which she told me about how her mother was a fully proud indigenous woman. However, due to the persecution of natives in Mexico, she had to "assimilate" how she was forced to marry a French man due to being so poor that she was arranged to marry someone who was white to "menorah la Raza" to "improve the blood." She even showed me a picture of her, from which although forced to be silent about her heritage you could still her strong indigenous blood even when there were no words spoken. This information filled me with pride about my family's history but also with enragement to the oppression and ignorance of society towards Native Americans. As of today, I am trying to become more involved in native culture, even though I might not know the specific tribes or have grown up surrounded by indigenous culture, I now get to slowly fill up that missing history, and say with pride that I am of indigenous decent.
