It may seem like saving money is a difficult task for college students. Yet, students continuously overpay for college necessities such as books and food. Also, college students lack prioritizing awareness. Additionally, there are great opportunities to help students save money such as scholarships and work-study. Therefore, saving money while in college is very realistic and attainable. Thomas Jefferson said, “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” Jefferson’s point is that hard work and dedication will get you better results and outcomes. Many students would rather buy an expensive/ new book to avoid searching on other websites for cheaper books. Getting the boom Websites, reselling bookstores, old students, and even PDF format which is also cheaper. Another way working harder would help you save money is by not eating out and simple cooking. According to JourneyFoods, eating out is about 15 dollars more expensive than home-cooked meals per serving. Not only can students save money through effective cooking and book purchases, but they can also polish their priorities when it comes to spending. Instead of buying clothes every week, paying monthly subscriptions for entertainment, or attending a weekly party, students can save that money. Many times students spend money on wants over needs which results in bad spending habits and negative results. I can firsthand relate to when Will Durant, an American writer and historian, said that “nature has never read the Declaration of Independence. It continues to make us unequal.” Unfortunately, some of us are not economically blessed compared to some of our counterparts. Nevertheless, as this opportunity proves. There exist scholarships for hard-working students like myself. Another great way to save money is work-study. Most institutions offer work-study to their students as a way for them to save money. This is a great way to save money while still gaining experience in a field that you might enjoy since work-study is usually tailored towards students and their fields. It is evident that money is a crucial resource in today's society. For that reason, having the knowledge to allow us to save this precious currency is very valuable. Saving money on books, meals, learning how to prioritize, and taking advantage of opportunities such as scholarships and work-study will allow one to save money effectively.
