Bio

Hello! My name is Erika (I go by my middle name, Ejiro) and I am an aspiring pelvic floor/women's health physical therapist! I will be attending George Washington University's doctor of physical therapy program beginning in August 2024. I am passionate about healthcare, and my ultimate goal is to provide prenatal and postpartum physical therapy care to women in underserved communities. What drives my goal is realizing that maternal mortality rates have been increasing in the past years, rather than a decrease; this is concerning because healthcare is improving so why should this be getting worse? Additionally, when patients undergo surgery, a majority of the time they are referred to physical therapy. However, it is unheard of for Caesarean birth women to get automatic PT referrals as well. This needs to be changed. I hope my advocacy and my own clinic in the future can make a positive impact!
