Being Lebanese-Mexican meant constantly straddling two cultures, each with its own set of traditions, values, and expectations. As a result, I often found myself torn between conflicting identities and struggled to fully embrace or feel accepted by either community. This sense of cultural duality created a profound internal struggle, as I grappled with questions of belonging and self-identification. Growing up as a Lebanese-Mexican presented significant challenges in terms of self-identity. However, these experiences served as catalysts for personal growth, resilience, and confidence. This created the path for future endeavors.

In this essay, I will discuss how I am currently making a positive impact on those around me and outline my plans to have a broader influence in the future. Furthermore, I will explain how this scholarship will facilitate my journey and enable me to accomplish my goals. In my local community, I have been actively involved in organizing and conducting seminars on mental health awareness. By providing valuable information and resources, I aim to empower individuals to prioritize their mental well-being and seek appropriate support. Additionally, I have volunteered in Mexico, teaching English as a second language while simultaneously addressing emotional health and breaking down the stigmas associated with mental health within the Hispanic population. During my high school years, I initiated a peer leadership program specifically designed for students of Hispanic background. This program aimed to offer counseling and support to adolescents and teenagers facing the challenges of high school. By providing culturally sensitive guidance, I strived to foster resilience and a sense of belonging among the participants. Building upon my foundation in psychology, I am currently pursuing a PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree. My ultimate goal is to utilize this advanced education to teach about cultural competence and provide counseling services to individuals in foreign Hispanic countries who lack access to proper mental health resources.
In these underserved regions, cultural understanding plays a crucial role in delivering effective mental health support. By integrating cultural competence into my counseling approach, I hope to bridge the gap between mental health services and the unique needs of Hispanic individuals. I am committed to challenging cultural barriers and promoting mental well-being in these communities. This scholarship holds immense significance in supporting my aspirations. Financial assistance will alleviate the burden of educational expenses, allowing me to focus on my studies and acquire the necessary skills to make a lasting impact. With the scholarship's backing, I will have the opportunity to engage in further research, participate in specialized training programs, and gain hands-on experience through internships or fieldwork in Latin countries. Through my work in the community, volunteer experiences, and the ongoing pursuit of a PsyD, I am actively striving to create positive change within the Hispanic community, particularly in Latin countries. By raising awareness, challenging stigmas, and offering culturally competent counseling, I aim to improve the mental well-being of individuals who are underserved and lack resources. With the assistance of this scholarship, I will be able to continue my journey, gaining the necessary expertise and resources to make a meaningful impact. Together, we can empower individuals, foster resilience, and create a brighter future for Latin communities in need of mental health support.
