Heron Wolf Civil & Infrastructure Scholarship
There are many facets about Civil Engineering that attracts me to this field, from understanding structures to how they should be built depending on the environment. Throughout my school years I’ve always been interested in math and science. Those classes were my strengths of all my studies, and the ones I thrive in the most. I was intrigued with engineering as a high school freshman and joined the engineering club as soon as I heard about it. I’ve also been extremely fascinated with roller coasters since I was small. I’ve always wondered how they operate and the dynamics of the ride. I love riding roller coasters and whenever I get a chance, I always asked my parents to go to an amusement park. The excitement and thrill riders experience on a roller coaster is very memorable, and I would like to create these memories for everyone to cherish. I’m currently interested in Civil Engineering to learn the skills needed to build and design roller coasters. Civil engineers create, design, and safely improve an infrastructure. My goal is to elevate the roller coaster attractions of the future. If necessary, I would also explore structural engineering and then apply my civil and structural education into reality. The technicality of building roller coasters is critical, as many lives depend upon it. Real world experience is the best goal, and through internships and co-op experiences at the college I attend, my reality can come true. I’ve applied to colleges that will allow me the opportunity to explore my interests with Engineering Programs that either have innovation spaces or design centers. I enjoy collaborating with others, utilizing my engineering knowledge and skills and real-life experiences to solve challenging problems. Personally, my interest in making people happy comes from my passion for community service and music. I’m an active volunteer at The New American Dream Foundation, where we serve meals to the senior citizens in our community. I also play the drums and enjoy playing music at school and church events. I’ve volunteered over 100 hours in the past 4 years and will continue to do so at college. Both my parents have strong education backgrounds and good jobs to support our family. My mother graduated with a Biomedical Engineering Degree, and my older brother is currently at University of Connecticut focusing on Computer Science and Engineering. We also have many engineers in my extended family. My parents sacrifice so that my 3 brothers and I can attend good schools and live a nice life. Next year, they’ll have 2 kids away in college, 1 attending catholic high school and 1 attending a catholic elementary school. This scholarship will help support my family’s contribution. I am very excited about attending college next year and studying Civil Engineering. Not only will I get a great education, but I will experience all the great things the University has to offer in their community. Thank you for your consideration of my application in the Heron Wolf Civil & Infrastructure Scholarship.
      Alexander de Guia Memorial Scholarship
Education through project-based learning, collaboration and community service are all important to me. These are the types of colleges I’m focused on. I’m applying to the Alexander de Guia Memorial Scholarship as it will support both my educational interests and service opportunities in helping me make the world a better place. Through your support, I’ll be able to study in the US and abroad, enhance my engineering experience, and strengthen my cultural knowledge. I’ve been very active in our community, with over 100+ hours of community service these past 4 years. I volunteer regularly with The New American Dream Foundation, serving meals to seniors in our community. I’ve also volunteered with The Santo Nino Prayer Group, leading the rosary at mass, and helping with their community gatherings and events. Lastly, I’m an avid baseball player and am an assistant coach for Danbury Youth Baseball. My Filipino heritage is important to me and connecting with others who might have something in common would be nice. My dad was an immigrant who came to the US when he was 7, and my mother is a Filipino American born in New York. My Filipino pride, culture, and values have shaped me to be an independent man with strong Catholic morals, including attending mass on Sundays. I’m a Filipino American, raised in a large family, educated in catholic schools. My family always attends mass on Sunday, even if we sacrifice our hectic schedules, so we can pray. At mass, I’m grateful for what I have and those around me. I have many Filipino friends who I consider family, and I would enjoy building additional Filipino friendships at college too. Both my parents have strong education backgrounds and good jobs to support our family. They sacrifice so that my 3 brothers and I can attend good schools and have a good life.
