Bio

I am a first generation college student. I enjoy working out, exploring new cities and areas, as well as a bit of reading. I want to attain a degree in healthcare administration so I can help serve the community. Hopefully by helping the less fortunate receive healthcare, morale in my community can increase. My experience in the military has given important management and leadership aspects, but now that I am able to focus on school I want to give it my all without worry of work or financial obligations.

    Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
One of my very favorite anime and one of the ones I watched initially while exploring the genre is Assassination Classroom. It is a show about a monster created by the Japanese government that was able to free himself and destroy 80% of the moon. The monster is very intelligent with levels of that of human geniuses. After destroying the moon he demands that he be able to teach a group of middle schoolers, which would be Earth's defense against the monster and a means of keeping it at bay until they find a way of destroying the monster before it destroys Earth. After this we see the monster take a less menacing form, to not scare the kids too much. While teaching them basic subjects, the best government-trained operative is tasked with providing weapons and tactics to the children in an attempt to beat the monster, but there is a catch. The monster's main ability it boasts is moving at the speed of Mach 20 (20 times the speed of sound). This made things difficult for the children to kill him but was a true blessing for them because the same class that was chosen was the lowest-scoring class that had mediocre students in it. With his ability to move at Mach 20 comes with his brain and body being able to process everything around him at 20 times the speed of sound. This enabled the monster to learn every subject the kids had to test on to promote to the next grade as well increasing the already vast knowledge it has. He does this by being so fast that he can simultaneously go around the room and help with the area the children cannot progress in. This was amazing to me because it showed that even though he was thought of as a monster and had the power to destroy the planet, he used his power to help people. He taught his class their worth all while preparing them to be the best students and individuals they could be. Season 1 was amazing because of the tension the first few episodes bring and then the unity it creates in the class towards the end. Then in season two, everything gets serious again all while being paced very well and giving viewers just the right amount of episodes to be satisfied. This show was amazing to me during my adolescent anime-watching time and was a catalyst that kept me going with anime and plunged me deeper into the genre, introducing me to all sorts of other shows i enjoy.
    Spider-Man Showdown Scholarship
I grew up being able to watch all four versions of the Spiderman movies (including the animated Spiderverse films) and I have to say it is a tie for me between the Toby McGuire Spiderman from the first live-action version in the early 2000s and the recently added Miles Morales spiderverse. It is a draw for me mainly for a couple of reasons being; The first Spiderman brings back so much nostalgia and childhood memories between watching the movie on weekends and during summer break with friends and playing the accompanying video game adaptation that came out shortly after. Playing the video game was so amazing back then because video games were still fresh, and having a different way of experiencing something you truly enjoy is just something that even now is a hard thing to not do. The Miles Morales Spiderman is also my favorite because of the many different art styles of the movie and the story the creators tell. He fits a narrative that quite a few young boys and girls relate to, and having something to relate to a character enhances how you feel about the story and characters even further. This, along with a fantastic story and excellent voice acting puts this movie at the top spot on my list.
    Charity's Alumnus Erudition Award
I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to attend college, let alone receive a scholarship to help fund my education. As a first-generation African-American college student, the path to higher education has not been easy. However, I am determined to overcome the obstacles and pursue my dream of becoming a healthcare administrator. Growing up in a low income family, I have always been aware of the financial challenges that come with higher education. My mom has always emphasized the importance of education and encouraged me to pursue my goals, but we simply cannot afford the high cost of college tuition. Despite this, I refused to let my financial situation hold me back. Throughout high school, I worked hard to maintain a good GPA and participate in extracurricular activities. I volunteered at local hospitals and local pharmacies to learn more about the field. These experiences solidified my passion for health studies and inspired me to pursue a degree in the field. When I received my acceptance from the University of Maryland Global Campus, I was overjoyed. However, the reality of the cost of tuition and other expenses and working full-time in the Navy quickly set in. I knew that I would need to find additional funding to cover the costs of my education, which is why I am applying for this scholarship. This scholarship would not only help me pay for my tuition and other expenses, but it would also allow me to focus on my studies without worrying about the financial burden. As a health services student, I will have many responsibilities that require my full attention, and I want to be able to give my all to my studies. Moreover, this scholarship would help me achieve my longterm goals of becoming a Clinic Manager and making a difference in my community. I am passionate about providing high quality healthcare to underserved populations and working to improve the overall health of my community. With this scholarship, I will be one step closer to achieving those goals. In conclusion, I am grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship and for any support that can help me pursue my dreams of becoming a Health Administrator. As a first generation college student and someone who has faced financial challenges throughout my life, I understand the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I will use this scholarship to achieve my goals and make a positive impact in the community.

    Students Impacted by Incarceration Scholarship
Incarceration was something I thought would never affect me or those around me. Growing up my older cousin was my role model because we were always hanging out. After school, he would give me rides back home and play around with me and the other kids in the neighborhood. Even after graduating we still were pretty close and hung out often but then his grandmother who had diabetes contracted gangrene due to having poor blood circulation in her legs. When his mom broke the news to him that his grandmother was passing he was hurt deeply by this because of the relationship they shared. When it was time for his grandmother to have surgery to try and remove the limb that had the worse of the disease, she passed away and the doctor told them he did everything he could. My cousin seemed to disagree and let his "friends" talk him into committing arsen on that doctor's house after the fact. This caused him to go to prison for 10 years, I was unaware of the fact because I had been in the Navy by that time but when I asked my mom about him one day that's when she told me about him being in jail. He is a great person and very smart but he let his emotions cause him to mess his life up even more. This taught me to be careful around friends especially when they are saying questionable things like that and not thinking about that affects someone in the long run. My cousin was about to finish nursing school and join the military, and hearing that he couldn't do what he wanted to do and help protect the country really drove me to serve better every day as an active duty service member. While serving it has given me a chance to start school so I want to be able to do so because now that my cousin is not able I feel the need to be the first in our family's generation to graduate from college.

SmartAsset College SmartStart Personal Finance Scholarship
The best piece of financial advice one can receive is to create a budget and some small, medium, and long-term financial goals. A budget is a financial plan that takes into consideration one's income, expenses, and financial goals. It provides a framework for managing money effectively and making informed financial decisions. Financial goals help you to work on the road map you use for your goals. The first step in creating a budget is to assess one's income. This includes all sources of income, such as salary, bonuses, and investments. Once the income is determined, it is important to establish how much money should be allocated to different categories of expenses. This includes fixed expenses such as rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, and loan payments. It also includes variable expenses like groceries, entertainment, and travel. In doing this, you are able to make small goals like saving $500 or paying off small debts. These small goals don't have to be just monetary, they can include other things like not spending a lot of your paycheck on eating out or entertainment outside of your home. The next step is to prioritize financial goals. These may include saving for retirement, building an emergency fund, or paying off debt. By prioritizing these goals, one can allocate money towards them and ensure they are being met. After you prioritize your financial goals it should be easier to make your medium and long term goals. Some of these medium goals could include opening up a small credit card that could from $500-$2000. This card can be used to pay for all your monthly expenses or just groceries and gas for your vehicle. With the card being used for this and being paid in full by the statement period, your credit will increase and so will the credit limit on the card. A long term goal that most have is to save a down payment for a house or save enough to pay 50 percent to 100 percent of a new vehicle. Long term goals could also include starting life insurance policies for yourself and immediate family members, making sure your retirement accounts (401k, roth, etc.) are set up and on track to be at an appropriate number when its close to your year of retirement. Once a budget is established, it is important to track one's expenses and income to ensure they are staying on track. Budgets help you stay on track for the goals you make now and in the future. Because the more informed you are about your income and your expenses, the easier it becomes to get things done you want and set aside funds for new goals like vacations or a new television. Many tools and apps are available to help monitor spending and adjust the budget accordingly as needed. For my goals I use rocket money to track expenses and reoccurring things I pay for to help make sure nothing new is starting to reoccur I wasn’t sure about. Sticking to a budget can be challenging, especially in the face of unexpected expenses or the temptation to splurge on non-essential items. Discipline over finances is very difficult but the more practice you have at actually talking about finances to people as well as looking at your own will make you more comfortable with money making it easier to figure out how to get to your goals. However, the benefits of creating and sticking to a budget are numerous. It can help alleviate financial stress, reduce debt, and provide a clear path towards achieving financial goals. Making short, medium, and long-term goals is a great way to show what you are actually saving up money and sacrificing for. But if you can do without for a bit to get the things you truly desire by making a plan and sticking to it, the reward you get from reaching your goal and becoming more responsible with money will always outweigh the few things you could not do or buy. Overall, creating and sticking to a budget is crucial for financial success. It allows for effective money management, ensures financial goals are being met, and provides peace of mind in uncertain financial times.
