Science is probably the most important field to society. The scientific method has allowed us to learn and better understand every aspect of the observable universe. From the tiniest physical observations possible in atomic theory to entire universes being discovered, we have factually tested insight into how things work. These discoveries have led to inventions that affect literally everyone. It improves every aspect of peoples’ lives. These inventions help society through communication, entertainment, business, etc. Inventions being user friendly allows for everyone in society to utilize them. Even for handicapped and/or mentally handicapped individuals. This is where Computer Science comes in. That is the STEM major I chose, and I chose this major because it impacts more people. The careers I am looking to start in is software development or video game development. The main reason I set my sights on a software development career is because solving problems is what software development is all about. Even when I was a child, I would tinker, suggest solutions, and fix broken devices. Software development is also one of the highest paying computer science jobs. I come from a family where my single mother worked 3 jobs and me and my brothers were almost entirely raised by our grandmother. I hope to pay my mother back for all the hard work she did. Currently I have 2 kids, a 2-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy. I have only had fast food/cooking jobs. I'm living paycheck to paycheck and on all the government assistance I can get. My wife is also disabled and so is her mother. Helping the disabled enjoy using the technology and inventions everyone else does is worth doing. An added side effect to developing software that helps the disabled is that it also makes things easier to use. To the point where no training is needed to use them. Video game development is also an option for me because I love video games. Playing video games as a child taught me to test boundaries in them to win. Especially in hard ones. Knowing the size of the characters hitbox, the range and hitbox of their abilities, and finding glitches gives insight into what is going on behind the scenes. There are even people today with on online video game streaming sites like YouTube and Twitch showing the development process of games. Learning how the games work behind the scenes has been very fun. In fact, I am currently making a video game. It is a top down space shooter. I am using Godot and free license assets online to create it. Godot uses GDScript as the coding language, which is very similar to python. I hope to release the game on Google App Store this year.

Science Fiction Becomes Science Fact Scholarship
You talking about the Call of Duty chat logs? Anonymity, immersion and lack of supervision allow people to forgo their social masking. You can see this same attitude/clarity in people with psychology experiments. Most notably the Stanford Prison Experiment in 1971 and the The Third Wave 1967. The prison experiment gave the kids immersion through their environment. They had actual police officers arrest and escort them to the university. Rooms and areas specifically for them and the experiment. The "supervision" that they had refused to do anything. The Third Wave gave kids immersion through bad supervision. The teacher allowed horrible things to happen, including makeshift camps for non-conforming students. The size of the experiment grew and spread out of control. The experiment ended with hundreds of students asserting superiority complexes. Facism does this and spreads just like religion. If you read this essay, then you will have noticed something is missing. Anonymity, this aspect was absent in both the prison and third wave experiments. While the prison experiments driving force was the immersion, the third wave’s driving force was the bad supervision. Imagine how much worse they would have gotten with anonymity. Online video gaming is largely unsupervised and used as entertainment/babysitting. The only supervision is other players reporting and automatic ban systems. Other players will usually join in with the spread of negative attitudes. The automatic systems are typically a text filter, which is horrible at detecting passive aggressiveness. Meanwhile, the majority of online gaming uses voice chat, effectively bypassing the text filter. Due to video games' nature as entertainment, immersion is a huge role. This immersion is usually so strong that it results in caring too much and emotional responses. Noone should care about a kill in a video game so much that they would send death threats to other human beings in reality. However, this is a common occurrence in the online gaming community. Add in anonymity and even players who were banned are allowed to continue playing by making another account. Effectively giving players the sense of freedom to act however they want with no punishment. These experiments and online gaming show how easy it is to affect others negatively. They also show that a big part of humanity is being cruel to others. The continued allowance of a lack of supervision and deep immersion is enough for peoples' behaviors to change in real life regardless of anonymity no longer being a part of the equation. After all, that was not present in the experiments. Anger issues are the most obvious result. Having short fuses and being quick to judge others is carried over from team games like Call of Duty and League of Legends. The online gaming community even calls racial slurs “gamer words”. However, this whole prompt is in the realm of psychology not STEM. Not everyone subjected to these experiments and online gaming turn out negatively. That is an extreme. Its statistics, mental statistics. If you want to hear about the positive extremes, there are conventions, cosplayers, and even people getting married that met through online gaming. Online video game streaming is overall positive allowing for supervision, lack of anonymity, and consequences despite the immersion. Correcting this ratio seems to be the key that technology should push for in online gaming situations.
