Bio

I am extremely grateful to be able to pursue my dream of becoming a NICU nurse. Being able to care for the most vulnerable individuals and support families through difficult times has increased my interest in pursuing this as my career. As a mother who has experienced many healthcare inadequacies, I believe the world would benefit by having a caring and nurturing individual they can trust in the healthcare field.

I am a dedicated mother and student who is extremely passionate about advancing in my education and career opportunities as a future nurse. Growing up I always wanted to pursue a career that will give me meaning and assist others and their families in areas where they need assistance the most. Through some tough life experiences and loss of family members due to hospital staff negligence the time to become an experienced and caring healthcare provider has been weighing heavy on my heart, this was the push I needed to start my educational journey. Becoming a young mother gave me a nurturing and caring spirit and also a certain determination and patience to be a better person not only for myself but for my daughter. She gave me tenacity and grit to get through anything that life may throw my way. I have grown to appreciate life and the journey that it has taken me through. This has led me into my certain career choice of nursing. Some of my professional goals include, advancing in my area of expertise, providing excellent care to others who are in need, and potentially moving into a leadership position to assist new nurses on becoming excellent caregivers. Achieving these goals will not only benefit me personally but will positively impact my daughter and our future together. By furthering my education and increasing my earning potential, I will be able to provide a better quality of life for my baby girl, including better access to opportunities and better education. Being a professional nurse is something that will give not only my family hope for the future of our leading healthcare providers but also give others and their families hope that healthcare workers can be trusted. I want to share my light and love with the world through this career. After receiving my degree, I plan to give back to my community in various ways. One way I hope to do this is by volunteering my time and expertise to local organizations such as NICU and health departments where children are in need of expert care. I also plan to mentor and support others who are pursuing their own educational and career goals in the nursing field, as I believe in the importance of paying it forward and helping others succeed. Additionally, I hope to use my knowledge for the greater good and make a positive impact on society. I truly believe that nursing is wholeheartedly my calling and what I was put on this earth to do.

My educational journey has been a winding road filled with unexpected twists and turns that have ultimately led me to pursing a degree in nursing. After completing my first bachelor's degree in political science I quickly became dissatisfied in my career choices. The impact that I hope to make seemed to not reach as many people as I have hoped. The interest in nursing continued to grow inside of me the past three years, especially after my favorite uncle became extremely ill and needed more supportive and understanding healthcare specialist to assist him in recovering. I wanted to be that person for not only my family but for other families and individuals as well. Many people go into nursing for the incentives of money, status or prestige. I wanted to show others the true meaning of being a nurse aside all of the accolades and status that may come with it, to show unbiased care and being that shoulder for someone to lean on and trust through their recoveries and health journey. Political science unfortunately seemed to be a way to reach others through policies and legislatures to reach broader audiences. But after becoming pregnant in 2016 plans changed for me. A nurturing and caring nature developed even more within me realizing that I love children and that I love to make a difference in others' lives through direct care. I began taking care of my Grandmother to broaden my experience as a pre nursing student and I have not been more fulfilled and passionate about my purpose that God put me on this earth to pursue. Knowing that I can make a significant impact on the world gives me a sense and purpose that I will be able to give the world in my pursuance of my BSN. Another realization that I had when I knew nursing was the career intended for me is when I became a behavioral support analysist. I worked with children under the age of five. Many of my clients had not just behavioral issues but also medical issues that the clinic I worked for overlooked. I had a strong sense of urgency rise in me to make a difference in these children's lives. I began to question the healthcare system, How could any let these children suffer this way? Being a mother myself I became emotional in sense of needing to do something. This catapulted me into pursuing healthcare. I am very excited to embark on this educational journey to make the world a little brighter, healthier, and contentious about the importance of health. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay.
