Bio

For as long as I can remember, I have eagerly taken the role of the “teacher”. While playing as a child with my family and friends, I took the lead and loved to teach new things. The seed was planted to serve as an educator, and as I became more knowledgeable, I knew that this was my vocational calling. New Orleans is a particular community, with a unique school district, and being a part of the Orleans Parish School Board has allowed me to explore avenues where I can contribute my time and resources to the youth in our city. A child deserves the best resources from all of the people around them, and it is not always the case that they receive that. There is tremendous value in fostering a positive relationship between a student and education and I hope to make a huge impact on the lives of many. I will never forget my 4th grade teacher and her effort to show me that she was invested in my educational experience. I had never experienced that kind of attention, not even at home. She helped me to see my worth and helped to build my confidence. I always knew I wanted to be that light for a child, just like she was for me. My 4th-grade teacher inspired greatness in me, and I plan to pass that forward. I know that with the opportunity to further my education, I will make a difference in the lives of many young people. It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I know New Orleans needs teachers like I will be, filled with compassion, dedication, empathy, passion, and the desire to help as many children as God allows me to!

    Bold Bucket List Scholarship
There are no failures, only lessons! All of humanity must go through trials and tribulations. My goal is always progress, not perfection. That is how we become better humans. If it were not for the experiences that I carry with me, I would not be authoring this essay. I desire to show my two sons that no matter what comes our way, we always have a choice to improve. I do not aim to be consistently great; I aim to be great at being consistent. I would have to say that the #1 item on my bucket list used to be money management. I am blessed that I have achieved the capability to manage money successfully, but I learned the hard way. At one point, I was homeless and was living out of my car. Through this, I learned the value of creating a budget and saving proactively to build a safe foundation. I learned how to collect experiences and not material things. The #2 item on my list is finishing my educational goals. For as long as I can remember, I have eagerly taken the role of the “teacher”. The seed was planted to serve as an educator, and as I became more knowledgeable, I knew that this was my vocational calling. I have achieved the goal of being part of the Orleans Parish School Board and it has allowed me to explore avenues where I can contribute my time and resources to the youth in our city. A child deserves the best resources from all the people around them, and it is not always the case that they receive that. There is tremendous value in fostering a positive relationship between a student and education and I hope to make a huge impact on the lives of many.
