What inspired me to become a teacher was an unexpected experience during high school that ended up shaping my future in a way I never anticipated. At the time, I needed to fill a gap in my schedule, and my counselor suggested that I choose between a ceramics class or an early childhood education class. I remember feeling unsure about both options, but I knew that ceramics did not interest me, so I decided to take a chance on the early childhood class—even though I was nervous and unsure of what to expect. Looking back now, that decision was one of the most important choices I have ever made. When I first entered the class, I did not feel confident working with children. In fact, I had always felt awkward around them and didn’t really know how to interact, play, or communicate in a way that felt natural. I worried that I would not be good at it or that I would feel out of place. However, as the class progressed and I gained more hands-on experience, my perspective began to change. I started to feel more comfortable and began to understand how to connect with children in meaningful ways. I discovered that I enjoyed supporting their learning, engaging in their creativity, and helping them feel safe and valued. Through this experience, I realized that working with children was something I was truly passionate about. It was not just a class to fill my schedule anymore—it became something I looked forward to every day. I loved seeing children learn new things, express themselves, and grow in their own unique ways. That realization helped me understand that I wanted to pursue a career in education, specifically working with young children, and eventually open my own daycare where I can create a positive and nurturing environment for them. Because of my dedication and growth in the class, I was given the opportunity to work at the daycare connected to the program. This opportunity allowed me to gain even more real-world experience and further develop my skills. Since then, I have continued working with children in different roles, including as a nanny and in various daycare settings. Each experience has taught me something new and has helped me become more patient, adaptable, and confident in my abilities. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that growth often comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone. If I had chosen to stay within what felt safe and familiar, I may have never discovered my passion for teaching. Because of this, I want to use my experiences to inspire others, especially children, to try new things and believe in their ability to grow. I understand what it feels like to be unsure or lack confidence, and I want to be the kind of teacher who supports students through those feelings and helps them succeed. As a future teacher, I plan to create a classroom environment where children feel safe, respected, and encouraged to be themselves. I want to build strong relationships with my students so they feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. I also hope to inspire them by modeling positivity, patience, and a willingness to learn. By showing children that it is okay to make mistakes and that learning is a process, I can help them develop confidence and a love for learning. Ultimately, my journey into teaching began with uncertainty, but it has grown into a clear passion and purpose. I hope to use my experiences not only to educate children but also to inspire them to believe in themselves and embrace new opportunities, just as I did.
