My name is Dominick Tufaro and I'm a hardworking student who loves learning and helping out in my community. I've managed to keep an impressive weighted GPA of 4.22 and received an Academic Letter Award for my efforts in school.
I like taking on leadership roles as well. Im currently the Student Body Vice President and the President of the National Honor Society. I also received a Student Council and National Honors Society Letter for my involvement in making our school a better place.
Giving back is important to me, and I've spent over 200 hours volunteering for my community. I even received the Merit Community Service Award and the Honor Community Service Award for my efforts. I want to keep making a positive impact.
I was chosen to be the APS Nusenda Student of the Week! It was a cool moment and made me feel proud of all I have accomplished.
Now, I'm looking for scholarships to help me further my education. I believe my grades, leadership roles, and community service make me an excellent scholarship recipient.

Leadership is extremely important in ensuring that anything gets done correctly. When I was young, I would definitely consider myself a follower. I was a very introverted kid, not having the ability to speak for myself at all. High school was definitely the time when I came out of my shell. I wanted to join my school's student council because I was interested in joining a community where I could make some friends. Little did I know that it would be a life-changing experience for me. I gained the abilities to problem solve, communicate, and adapt.
I decided to run for a student body officer position because I felt confident that I would make an amazing leader. I ran, and secured the role of Associated Student Body Vice President. This position has been a tremendous learning experience, involving planning and overseeing the Senate class, delivering daily live announcements on Google Meet, engaging with adults to organize events, and conducting and speaking at school-wide assemblies.
I didn't want my leadership to be restricted to just the Senate. I was a member of the National Honor Society, and I found out they were going to hold officer elections. I knew right away that I wanted to run, knowing it could build on my leadership abilities and improve the club. My speech ended up winning the election because it was delivered clearly and professionally. I became National Honor Society President, and as president, I get to plan and lead the meetings, make the presentation, and organize our NHS semester service projects. For the first semester, I organized a school campus cleanup, realizing our campus was heavily littered and dirty.
I felt amazing demonstrating my leadership skills and didn't want it to stop. Camp Enchantment is a New Mexico nonprofit organization that sends children who are on treatment for cancer to camp for free. I had the opportunity to volunteer as a leader in training for Camp Enchantment. Serving as the assistant counselor, I became a role model to my four campers in my cabin, and many more campers I got to meet throughout the week. Each day, I assisted my boys with waking up, taking showers, managing their medications, guiding them to various activities, and most importantly, making sure they had a great time. I built friendships with all my campers, and they looked up to me. Recognizing the challenges my campers faced, I felt a sense of responsibility to create an environment where they felt joy. Their strength and perseverance inspired me daily, and I plan to attend camp enchantment again next year. Including camp enchantment, I've spent over 200 hours volunteering in my community. I received the Merit Community Service Award and the Honor Community Service Award for my efforts. I plan to continue making a positive impact.
I was even recognized by APS, when i was named an APS Nusenda Student of the Week! It was a cool moment and made me feel proud of everything I have acomplished.
I am so thankful for the leadership positions I earned, and I believe I have become a strong and passionate leader. I have ensured that my voice is heard. These valuable experiences have prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in college, equipping me with the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to thrive at UNM.
