Jeannine Schroeder Women in Public Service Memorial Scholarship
Addressing social issues requires more than awareness; it requires action, leadership, and a long-term commitment to serving others. One of the most important social issues I am working to address is the lack of accessible, equitable healthcare for underserved and marginalized communities. My passion for this work began at a young age through my mother, who has been a disability service provider for over 20 years. Growing up, I watched her advocate for individuals who were often overlooked, ensuring they received the care, dignity, and support they deserved. I saw firsthand how many families struggled to navigate systems that were not designed to support them. Whether it was helping clients access services or simply being a consistent source of support, my mother demonstrated what true public service looks like. Her work inspired me to not only care about these issues but to take action and become part of the solution. Today, I am continuing that mission through my own journey in healthcare. As a nursing student and medical assistant, I am actively gaining hands-on experience in patient care. In my daily work, I make it a priority to treat every patient with compassion, respect, and understanding. I recognize that many patients come from backgrounds where they may feel unheard or underserved, and I strive to create an environment where they feel comfortable, valued, and supported. Even small actions such as listening closely to a patient’s concerns or advocating for their needs can make a meaningful difference. In addition, my experience as a single mother has strengthened my ability to lead with resilience and empathy. Balancing school, work, and parenting has taught me discipline, time management, and perseverance. More importantly, it has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges many families face, particularly those with limited resources. This perspective allows me to connect with patients on a more personal level and reinforces my commitment to serving communities that are often overlooked. My long-term goal is to become a nurse practitioner and expand my impact by providing accessible, patient-centered care to underserved populations. I want to go beyond treating illnesses by also educating patients, advocating for better healthcare access, and helping bridge the gap between medical systems and the communities they serve. I am especially passionate about working with individuals who may not have consistent access to care, ensuring they receive not only treatment but also guidance and support. Addressing social issues like healthcare inequality requires persistence, compassion, and leadership. Through my education, my hands-on experience, and the values instilled in me by my mother, I am committed to making a meaningful difference. I am not simply pursuing a healthcare career; I am preparing to serve, to lead, and to advocate for those who need it most.
Simon Strong Scholarship
There have been nights when I stayed up studying long after my son fell asleep, knowing that in just a few hours I would have to wake up and do it all over again. In those quiet moments, exhaustion would set in, but so would my purpose. As a single mother pursuing a nursing degree, my life has been defined by sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to creating a better future. One of the greatest adversities I have faced has been balancing motherhood, financial instability, and the demands of nursing school all at once. There is no pause button. Bills still need to be paid, my child still needs me, and my education still requires my full effort. There have been times when I felt stretched beyond my limits—mentally, physically, and emotionally. I have faced moments of doubt, stress, and uncertainty, especially when financial pressure made it difficult to focus solely on school. However, I refused to let those challenges stop me. I overcame adversity by developing discipline and learning how to push forward even when I felt overwhelmed. I created structure in my life, prioritized my responsibilities, and reminded myself daily of my purpose. My son became my biggest motivation. Every sacrifice I make is for him—to give him stability, to show him strength, and to prove that no matter how difficult life becomes, we can rise above it. This adversity has shaped me into a stronger and more determined individual. It has taught me how to remain focused under pressure, how to persevere when things feel impossible, and how to find strength even in my lowest moments. These experiences are preparing me not only for success in school but also for my future career as a nurse practitioner. I will bring empathy, resilience, and real-life understanding into my work, especially when caring for patients who are facing their own struggles. If I could advise someone facing similar circumstances, I would tell them that it is okay to feel overwhelmed—but do not stop. You do not have to have everything figured out. Just keep taking the next step, even if it is small. Consistency will carry you further than perfection ever could. Stay connected to your purpose, because your “why” will keep you going when motivation fades. Adversity has not broken me—it has built me. It has shown me who I am and who I am becoming. And through every challenge, I continue to choose growth, strength, and a better future.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
If I could create a brand new Love Island challenge, it would be called “Real Life Connection.” This challenge would test whether couples can build a genuine connection beyond looks, flirting, and surface-level attraction. In this challenge, couples would be separated for a short period and placed into real-life scenarios that reflect everyday responsibilities. For example, one partner might be given a budgeting task where they must plan a week of meals on a limited income, while the other is responsible for managing a busy daily schedule that includes work, responsibilities, and unexpected challenges. Afterward, they would come back together and have to communicate what they experienced, how they handled stress, and how they would support each other in real life. The second part of the challenge would focus on emotional intelligence. Couples would participate in guided conversations where they answer deeper questions about values, goals, communication styles, and how they handle conflict. Instead of just “Do you like me?” the questions would be more meaningful, like “How do you show up for someone during hard times?” and “What does a healthy relationship look like to you?” Finally, the couples would be judged not just on chemistry, but on teamwork, communication, and how well they support each other under pressure. The audience would vote based on authenticity rather than just entertainment. This challenge would stand out because it shifts the focus from temporary attraction to long-term compatibility. While Love Island is known for drama and romance, this challenge would reveal which couples could actually succeed outside the villa. In a world where relationships are often built quickly and sometimes fall apart just as fast, “Real Life Connection” would remind viewers that love is more than just a spark—it’s about partnership, understanding, and showing up for each other consistently.
Jill S. Tolley Scholarship
I believe I am uniquely deserving of this award because of the determination, resilience, and purpose that drive everything I do. As a single mother pursuing a career in nursing, my journey has not been easy, but it has shaped me into someone who refuses to give up, no matter the circumstances. Every challenge I have faced has strengthened my commitment to building a better future for myself and my son. My “why” for pursuing higher education is deeply personal. I am not only working toward a degree, but toward stability, growth, and the ability to provide a life of security and opportunity for my child. I want my son to grow up seeing what it looks like to work hard, stay focused, and achieve goals despite obstacles. I want to be an example of perseverance and success for him. I am currently an LPN student and medical assistant, working toward becoming a nurse practitioner. My passion for healthcare comes from a genuine desire to help others and make a difference in people’s lives. I want to provide compassionate, high-quality care, especially to individuals in underserved communities who may not always receive the attention and support they deserve. Healthcare is more than a career for me; it is a calling. Balancing motherhood, school, and work has required discipline, time management, and sacrifice. There are many days when I have to push through exhaustion and stress, but I continue because I know what I am working toward. I have learned how to stay focused, prioritize my responsibilities, and remain consistent even when things feel overwhelming. These experiences have built my resilience and prepared me for the demands of a healthcare career. What makes me unique is not just my circumstances, but how I respond to them. I have chosen to grow through my challenges rather than be defined by them. I am committed to continuing my education, advancing in my career, and creating a life that reflects hard work and determination. This scholarship would provide financial relief and allow me to stay focused on my education without the constant stress of financial burden. More importantly, it would support my journey toward becoming a nurse practitioner, where I can give back to others and make a meaningful impact in my community. My “why” is my future, my son, and the difference I know I am capable of making. I am determined to succeed, and this opportunity would help me continue moving forward toward my goals.
Divers Women Scholarship
Raising a family while pursuing a healthcare career has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. As a single mother to my 6-year-old son, every decision I make is centered around creating a stable, successful, and meaningful future for both of us. Balancing motherhood, work, and school has required discipline, sacrifice, and resilience, but it has also strengthened my determination to succeed. There are many days when I have to manage multiple responsibilities at once—caring for my son, attending classes, studying, and working toward my goals in healthcare. It is not always easy, but becoming a nurse is something I am deeply passionate about. My son is my biggest motivation. I want him to grow up seeing that no matter how difficult life may be, hard work and consistency can lead to success. My healthcare journey is rooted in my desire to help others and make a difference in people’s lives. I am currently an LPN student and medical assistant, working toward becoming a nurse practitioner. Through my education and hands-on experience, I have developed a strong passion for patient care. I want to provide compassionate, high-quality care to individuals, especially those in underserved communities who may not always receive the attention they deserve. Being a mother has shaped the way I approach healthcare. It has given me a deeper sense of empathy, patience, and understanding. I know what it means to care for someone, advocate for them, and put their needs first. These qualities directly translate into the kind of healthcare provider I am becoming. I want my patients to feel seen, heard, and cared for, just as I care for my own child. One example of the impact I have already made in healthcare was during my experience as a medical assistant. I had the opportunity to care for patients who were anxious and unsure about their treatment. I made it a priority to speak to them calmly, explain what to expect, and ensure they felt comfortable and respected. Even small actions like listening, being patient, and showing compassion made a difference in how they experienced their care. This reinforced my belief that healthcare is not just about treatment, but about how you make people feel during vulnerable moments. Despite the challenges, I have remained committed to my education and my goals. I have learned how to manage my time effectively, stay focused under pressure, and keep pushing forward even when things feel overwhelming. Every obstacle I face reminds me of why I started and motivates me to keep going. This scholarship would help ease the financial burden that comes with balancing school and raising a child. More importantly, it would support my journey toward becoming a nurse practitioner, where I can give back to others and create a lasting impact in healthcare. Raising a family while pursuing a healthcare career has taught me strength, resilience, and purpose. I am not only working toward a better future for myself, but also setting an example for my son and striving to make a difference in the lives of others.
Champions for Intellectual Disability Scholarship
My inspiration to pursue a career supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities comes from my upbringing and firsthand experience within my family. My mother has been a disability service provider for over 20 years, and through her work, I have been exposed to the intellectual disability community from a young age. Watching her care for individuals with patience, compassion, and dedication shaped my understanding of what it truly means to serve others. Growing up, I didn’t just hear about her work—I was around it. I saw the daily responsibilities, the challenges, and the importance of treating every individual with dignity and respect. I also had the opportunity to help my mother with her business, which allowed me to interact with individuals with intellectual disabilities and better understand their unique needs. These experiences taught me that people with intellectual disabilities deserve not only proper care but also genuine compassion, advocacy, and inclusion. Being involved in this environment helped shape my character and my career path. It taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of communication. I learned that every individual has their own way of expressing themselves and that it is our responsibility as caregivers and healthcare professionals to meet them where they are. These lessons have stayed with me and continue to influence how I approach both my education and my future career in healthcare. As a current LPN student and medical assistant, I am committed to continuing my journey in the healthcare field with the goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. I want to use my education and experience to provide high-quality care to individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring they receive the attention, respect, and support they deserve. I also hope to advocate for better access to healthcare and resources for this community, as many individuals still face barriers when it comes to receiving proper care. My background has given me a deeper understanding of the importance of individualized care. I have seen how consistency, patience, and compassion can positively impact someone’s quality of life. This is something I carry with me as I continue my education and work toward becoming a healthcare provider who not only treats patients medically but also supports them holistically. In the future, I hope to make a difference by combining my personal experiences with my professional training. I want to be a provider who understands the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and works to ensure they feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether through direct patient care or advocacy, I am committed to making a meaningful impact in this community. My journey into this field is not just based on interest—it is rooted in real-life experience, family influence, and a genuine passion for helping others. This scholarship would support my continued education and allow me to further develop the skills needed to serve individuals with intellectual disabilities with the care and respect they deserve.
Ella's Gift
Becoming a nurse practitioner is not just a career goal for me—it is a reflection of my personal growth, resilience, and commitment to building a better future for myself and my son. As a single mother and LPN student, I have faced challenges that have tested my mental strength, emotional stability, and determination. However, these experiences have shaped me into someone who refuses to give up and continues to grow every day. There have been moments in my life where stress, pressure, and life circumstances felt overwhelming. Balancing motherhood, work, and school has not been easy, and there were times I had to confront my own mental health and learn how to cope in healthier ways. Instead of allowing those challenges to define me, I used them as motivation to become stronger, more disciplined, and more focused on my goals. I made a decision that I would not let temporary struggles stop me from building a stable and meaningful future. My personal growth has come from learning how to manage my responsibilities while also taking care of my well-being. I have developed better habits, created structure in my daily life, and focused on staying grounded through my faith, routine, and support system. I have learned the importance of self-discipline, accountability, and consistency. Being a mother has also pushed me to become a better version of myself, because I know my son is watching everything I do. I want him to grow up seeing strength, resilience, and the value of education. Education has become my pathway to change. I am currently an LPN student working toward becoming a nurse practitioner, and I am deeply passionate about healthcare. I want to provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients, especially those in underserved communities. My experiences have given me empathy and understanding that I will carry into my career, allowing me to connect with patients not just clinically, but personally. I understand what it feels like to face challenges, and I want to be the kind of healthcare provider who truly listens, supports, and advocates for patients. In addition to my studies, I have gained experience as a medical assistant, which has strengthened my clinical skills and reinforced my desire to continue growing in the nursing field. Working directly with patients has shown me the impact that compassionate care can have on someone’s life. These experiences have confirmed that I am on the right path and have motivated me to continue advancing my education. Managing recovery and maintaining balance is something I take seriously. I focus on staying consistent with my goals, surrounding myself with positive influences, and continuing to grow mentally and emotionally. I prioritize time management, self-care, and maintaining a structured routine so that I can continue progressing without falling back into unhealthy patterns. I understand that growth is an ongoing process, and I am committed to continuing that journey. This scholarship would help relieve financial stress and allow me to stay focused on my education and my future. As a single mother, financial support makes a significant difference in my ability to succeed. More importantly, this opportunity would support my journey toward becoming a nurse practitioner, where I can give back to others and make a meaningful impact in healthcare. I am not defined by my challenges; I am defined by how I rise from them. Every obstacle I have faced has strengthened my determination and shaped the person I am becoming. I am committed to continuing my growth, achieving my goals, and building a future that reflects hard work, resilience, and purpose not only for myself, but for my son and the community I hope to serve.
Stephan L. Daniels Lift As We Climb Scholarship
Pursuing a career in STEM through nursing is more than an academic goal for me — it is a life mission shaped by my experiences as a struggling single mother and caregiver. As the sole provider for my six-year-old son, I understand firsthand how overwhelming life can be when you are trying to balance health, finances, and family with limited support. Those challenges are exactly why I am determined to become a nurse: I want to be part of the solution for families who feel unseen, unheard, and unsure when navigating the healthcare system.
STEM careers are built on science, critical thinking, and problem-solving, and nursing embodies all of these. Nursing requires understanding the human body, medications, disease processes, and evidence-based care. But what makes nursing powerful is how that science is delivered — with compassion, patience, and communication. I am drawn to this field because I do not just want to treat symptoms; I want to help people understand what is happening in their bodies and feel empowered to take control of their health.
As a mother, I know how frightening it feels when a child is sick and you don’t fully understand the medical language being used. I know what it’s like to choose between missing work for an appointment or paying a bill. Many families in my community live in this constant stress, and it often leads to delayed care, unmanaged chronic conditions, and poor health outcomes. These are not just statistics to me — this is real life. My lived experience allows me to connect with patients on a human level, especially parents who are doing their best with limited resources.
With my nursing degree, I plan to serve my community in ways that go beyond bedside care. I want to provide education about chronic disease management, medication safety, and preventive health. Conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma can be better controlled when patients truly understand their treatment plans. I want to be the nurse who takes time to explain things in plain language, answer questions without judgment, and make sure patients leave feeling confident rather than confused.
I also want to be a strong patient advocate. Nursing in STEM equips me with the knowledge and authority to speak up when something is not right and to ensure that patients’ voices are heard. Many people feel intimidated in medical settings, and I want to help bridge that gap.
Most importantly, I am pursuing this degree to create a better future — not only for my son, but for families like mine. I want him to see that education, resilience, and service can break cycles and build stronger communities. Nursing allows me to combine science with heart, knowledge with empathy, and personal struggle with purpose. Through this career, I will not only heal individuals but also uplift the community that shaped me.
Track to the Trades
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) trade is a cornerstone of modern healthcare. LPNs provide hands-on patient care, monitor vital signs, administer medications, assist with daily living activities, and offer education and advocacy to patients and families. In a healthcare system that is increasingly complex and stretched thin, LPNs ensure that patients receive consistent, compassionate, and professional care. They are often the first line of support for patients and the bridge between them and other healthcare professionals. Beyond technical skills, LPNs bring empathy, patience, and dedication, making the profession indispensable in today’s society. Their work is critical in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and underserved communities, directly impacting the health and well-being of countless individuals.
My decision to pursue the LPN trade is deeply rooted in my personal experiences and the challenges I have faced as a single mother. Raising my 6-year-old son alone has been both rewarding and difficult. There was a time when we were homeless, forced to sleep in our car, uncertain where our next meal or safe place to sleep would come from. These experiences were daunting, yet they shaped my resilience, determination, and empathy. I learned that life’s hardships could either define you or motivate you to create change. Nursing became my path to turn adversity into purpose—a way to use my experiences to care for others while building a stable future for my family.
Currently, I am enrolled in the LPN program at Hondros College while working as a medical assistant. Balancing school, work, and parenthood requires dedication, time management, and perseverance, but it has also reinforced my commitment to this profession. I am passionate about serving underserved populations, particularly individuals in correctional facilities who often face limited access to healthcare. I want to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while educating and advocating for those who are frequently overlooked. My long-term goal is to continue my education to become a registered nurse, which will expand my ability to serve, mentor, and influence positive change in the healthcare system.
This scholarship is critical to achieving my goals. As a single mother, I am currently experiencing financial hardship, behind on tuition payments, and at risk of eviction. I sometimes struggle to provide basic necessities for my son. While my work as a medical assistant helps, it is not enough to cover the cost of school and living expenses. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus fully on my studies, clinical experience, and professional growth without the constant stress of financial instability. It would ensure I can complete my LPN program on time and continue toward my dream of serving underserved populations with competence and compassion.
The LPN trade has already impacted my life profoundly, providing purpose, stability, and the opportunity to transform challenges into meaningful action. Through my experiences, I have cultivated resilience, empathy, and a strong work ethic—qualities that guide my interactions with patients, colleagues, and my community. Generosity, respect, innovation, and teamwork are values I embody daily: I support my peers, treat patients with dignity, seek creative solutions in care, and collaborate with others to achieve the best outcomes.
In conclusion, the LPN trade is essential in modern society, providing crucial care, advocacy, and education. My personal journey, from overcoming homelessness to pursuing my LPN education as a single mother, has shaped my passion and determination. This scholarship will allow me to overcome financial barriers, complete my education, and achieve my goals of serving underserved populations, advancing in nursing, and making a meaningful impact in my community. Nursing is not just a career for me—it is a way to transform adversity into purpose, improve lives, and leave a lasting positive mark on the world.
Promising Pathways-Single Parent Scholarship
My name is Dolores Campbell, and I am pursuing a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at Hondros College. Nursing is my passion because it combines compassion, science, and advocacy, allowing me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I am particularly drawn to serving underserved populations, including individuals in correctional facilities who often face limited access to healthcare. My ultimate goal is to advance in nursing, become a registered nurse, and specialize in areas where I can provide both medical care and education to those who need it most.
Attending school as a single mother has not been easy. I am raising my 6-year-old son while balancing work, school, and household responsibilities. There was a time when we were homeless, forced to sleep in our car, uncertain where our next meal or safe place to stay would come from. Those experiences taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and determination. Despite these hardships, I have remained committed to my education because I know that completing my LPN program is the key to building a stable future for my family.
Currently, I face significant financial challenges. I am behind on tuition payments and at risk of eviction, and at times have struggled to provide enough food for my son. Working as a medical assistant helps, but it is not enough to cover both living expenses and school costs. Financial assistance would relieve this burden and allow me to focus fully on my studies, clinical rotations, and achieving my career goals without the constant stress of instability.
Once I complete my LPN program, I plan to use my skills and life experiences to serve populations who often face barriers to healthcare. I want to work in correctional healthcare, providing compassionate care, health education, and advocacy to those who need it most. Beyond direct patient care, I hope to mentor young people and other single parents, showing that challenges can be overcome and that education and perseverance lead to meaningful opportunities. My life experiences have given me empathy, determination, and a drive to uplift others, and I am committed to using my career to create lasting positive change.
In conclusion, despite financial hardship and personal challenges, I am determined to complete my nursing education and use my skills to serve my community. Lotus Scholarship
There was a time when my 6-year-old son and I had nowhere to sleep but our car. We were homeless, navigating nights filled with uncertainty, fear, and worry about the next day. That experience tested every part of me, but it also taught me resilience, determination, and the power of hope. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I had already learned that life would not hand me opportunities-I had to create them myself. Facing homelessness reinforced that lesson and showed me that perseverance is not optional when your child’s future depends on it.
These experiences shaped my passion for nursing and my desire to make a positive impact in my community. I am pursuing a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) because I want to serve people who face barriers to healthcare, including underserved families and individuals in correctional facilities. I want to provide not only compassionate care but also education and advocacy, helping patients understand their health and empowering them to take control of it. My life has taught me empathy, patience, and determination—qualities I will bring to every patient interaction, ensuring they feel seen and supported.
I am actively working toward these goals every day. While raising my son, I work as a medical assistant and am fully committed to my studies at Hondros College. I dedicate myself to excelling in the classroom, gaining hands-on experience during clinical rotations, and learning from mentors in healthcare. Every challenge I have faced has prepared me to transform adversity into action, and every step I take in my education brings me closer to serving my community. My journey has taught me that even the hardest circumstances can become a source of strength, and I am determined to use my experiences to create meaningful change in the lives of others.

Learner Math Lover Scholarship
One of the things I appreciate most about math is its universality. Numbers and patterns exist everywhere, from the natural symmetry of leaves to the rhythms in music, from the architecture of buildings to the algorithms that power technology. Math gives me a lens to understand these patterns and relationships, turning abstract concepts into tangible understanding. It allows me to see order in chaos and provides a sense of satisfaction when a solution finally comes together after careful reasoning. That “aha” moment when a problem click is exhilarating and motivates me to tackle even more challenging concepts.
Another reason I love math is its ability to connect with other disciplines. Science, technology, engineering, and even social studies rely heavily on mathematical principles. Math provides the foundation for innovation, problem-solving, and critical analysis. By understanding math, I feel equipped to explore other subjects with confidence. It opens doors to opportunities in careers, research, and real-world problem-solving that require analytical thinking. The practical applications of math, from measuring ingredients in a recipe to calculating medication doses in healthcare, show me that math is not just an academic subject—it is a vital life skill.
Math also challenges me to think logically and strategically. It is not enough to guess; one must understand principles, recognize patterns, and apply reasoning to reach a solution. This process sharpens my mind, improves focus, and encourages discipline. I enjoy the intellectual rigor that math demands, and I find satisfaction in mastering concepts that initially seemed daunting. Over time, I have come to see math as a puzzle, each problem an opportunity to test my understanding and creativity.
Finally, I love math because it builds confidence. Each problem I solve reinforces my ability to approach challenges systematically and with determination. The skills I develop through math—critical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and persistence—translate into everyday life, academics, and future career paths. Math has shown me that with patience, effort, and a logical approach, complex challenges can be understood and conquered.
In conclusion, I love math because it is both a challenge and a tool, a language that describes the world and a method for solving problems. It teaches resilience, sharpens my mind, and opens doors to limitless possibilities. Through math, I have learned that every problem has a solution, and with perseverance, clarity, and creativity, even the most difficult challenges can be overcome.
A Man Helping Women Helping Women Scholarship
There was a time when my 6-year-old son and I had nowhere to call home. We slept in our car, unsure of where our next meal or safe place to rest would come from. That period of my life was one of the most challenging I have ever faced, but it also became the defining moment that shaped my passion, resilience, and purpose. Today, I am a single mother pursuing a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Hondros College, determined to transform my experiences into a mission of compassion, advocacy, and positive change. Nursing is more than a career for me—it is the way I will make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
My journey to nursing began with my work as a medical assistant, where I gained firsthand experience in patient care and learned the importance of empathy, communication, and professionalism. I quickly realized that nursing would allow me to combine these skills with my desire to educate and empower patients. Nursing gives me the opportunity to serve those who are often overlooked, advocate for their well-being, and make a meaningful impact on individuals and communities. My personal challenges, including navigating homelessness, have given me a deep understanding of adversity and the strength to persevere—qualities I bring to every patient interaction and every step of my education.
I plan to make a positive impact on the world through my career by serving populations with limited access to healthcare, particularly in correctional facilities. Inmates often face restricted medical attention and minimal health education, and I want to ensure that they receive compassionate care and the knowledge they need to manage their health. Providing this care is about more than treating illness—it is about creating dignity, trust, and empowerment for individuals who are frequently overlooked. Nursing allows me to advocate for those who need it most, giving them tools to take control of their health while also improving their quality of life.
Mastering my trade requires dedication, continual learning, and practical experience. I plan to fully immerse myself in my studies at Hondros College, engage in clinical rotations, and seek mentorship from experienced healthcare professionals. I understand that nursing is not only about technical skill but also about emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to adapt to diverse situations. The lessons I learned while overcoming homelessness—resourcefulness, determination, and perseverance—prepare me to thrive in this demanding and rewarding profession.
Giving back to my community is also central to my goals as a nurse. Beyond direct patient care, I plan to mentor young people and other single parents, showing them that it is possible to overcome challenges and pursue meaningful careers. I hope to inspire others through both my story and my actions, creating a ripple effect of education, empowerment, and improved health outcomes in my community.
In conclusion, nursing is my passion because it allows me to transform personal adversity into a life of purpose and service. My experiences as a single mother, a former homeless parent, and a medical assistant have given me resilience, empathy, and the drive to make a difference. Through nursing, I aim to serve underserved populations, educate patients, and mentor others, leaving a lasting, positive impact on the world. This career is not only my calling—it is my opportunity to ensure that every life I touch experiences care, dignity, and hope.

My name is Dolores Campbell, and I am a single mother pursuing a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Hondros College. I currently work as a medical assistant, where I have seen firsthand the impact that compassionate, skilled healthcare can have on patients’ lives. Nursing has always been a natural extension of my desire to help others, but my personal experiences have deepened my commitment to this profession. This trade is not just a career choice—it is a calling that aligns with my values, my experiences, and my goals for the future.
Mastering nursing requires dedication, continual learning, and a willingness to grow both professionally and personally. I plan to achieve this by fully immersing myself in my coursework at Hondros College, participating actively in clinical rotations, and learning from experienced nurses who can guide and mentor me. I understand that nursing is more than memorizing procedures—it requires critical thinking, empathy, and resilience. These qualities have been developed through my own life experiences, particularly during some of the most challenging moments my son and I have faced. There was a time when we were homeless, sleeping in our car, unsure of where we would find our next meal or safe place to rest. Despite these hardships, I remained focused on creating a better future for us. I sought resources, worked tirelessly, and refused to let circumstances define us. Eventually, we secured stable housing, and I was able to enroll in nursing school. Overcoming this adversity strengthened my perseverance and taught me the importance of hope, resourcefulness, and determination—qualities I will carry with me as I master my trade.
I am particularly passionate about providing care to populations who often face limited access to healthcare. After becoming an LPN, I hope to work in correctional healthcare, serving inmates who frequently experience barriers to medical attention, education, and preventive care. In this setting, I can make a meaningful difference by providing compassionate treatment, teaching patients about managing chronic conditions, and advocating for their overall well-being. I see this work as a way to combine my professional skills with my personal mission: to support individuals who are often overlooked and empower them with knowledge and care.
Giving back to my community is central to my goals as a nurse. Beyond working in correctional facilities, I plan to mentor young people and other single parents, showing them that obstacles can be overcome with hard work and dedication. I want to inspire others to pursue education, seek meaningful careers, and understand the importance of health and wellness in building a strong foundation for themselves and their families. Nursing allows me to impact lives directly through care and indirectly by educating and empowering others to take charge of their health.
In conclusion, pursuing nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse is both a professional and personal mission. It allows me to provide hands-on care, educate and advocate for patients, and serve populations that often face barriers to healthcare. My journey—overcoming homelessness, raising my son as a single mother, and committing to my education—has given me resilience, empathy, and determination. By mastering my trade and giving back to my community, I aim to transform challenges into opportunities for growth, healing, and empowerment. Nursing is more than a career to me; it is a way to make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.

The trade I am passionate about pursuing is nursing. From a young age, I have always been drawn to helping others, but it was through my personal experiences and early work in healthcare that I realized nursing is the path where my compassion and dedication could make the greatest impact. As a medical assistant, I saw firsthand the difference that attentive, caring healthcare professionals can make in patients’ lives. Nursing combines science, skill, and empathy, allowing me to care for individuals while educating and advocating for them. This balance of hands-on care and meaningful interaction is what drew me to pursue this trade.
My inspiration to pursue nursing comes from both my son and the challenges we have faced together. As a single mother, I have had to navigate life’s hardships while ensuring my 6-year-old son is safe, healthy, and supported. There was a time when we were homeless, sleeping in our car, unsure of what the next day would bring. That experience shaped me in ways I cannot fully describe—it taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of helping others when they are most vulnerable. It was during those difficult times that I realized how critical access to healthcare and education is, especially for people who face barriers in their daily lives. I wanted to become someone who could offer support, knowledge, and care to those in need, turning my personal challenges into a purpose-driven career.
I am also inspired by the disparities I have witnessed in healthcare, particularly for populations with limited access to care. My goal is to work in settings where patients are often overlooked, including correctional facilities. Many inmates face health challenges with little guidance or medical resources, and I am passionate about providing the care and education they deserve. Nursing offers me the ability to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, especially those who are underserved or marginalized.
Nursing is not just a career for me—it is a calling inspired by my experiences and the people who have shaped my life. My son inspires me daily to persevere and pursue a career that will provide stability, purpose, and the ability to give back to my community. The struggles we have faced have given me a unique perspective on empathy, patience, and determination—qualities that are essential in nursing. Through this trade, I hope to turn adversity into action, using my knowledge and compassion to educate, care for, and empower those who need it most.
In conclusion, nursing is the trade I am passionate about because it allows me to combine care, education, and advocacy in a meaningful way. My inspiration comes from my personal journey, the resilience I have developed as a single mother, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of others. By pursuing this path, I am committed to transforming my experiences into purpose and using my skills to improve the health and well-being of those I serve.

The trade I am pursuing is nursing, specifically as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). From the moment I began working in healthcare as a medical assistant, I realized that nursing combines my desire to care for others with my need to make a tangible impact in people’s lives. I am passionate about nursing because it allows me to provide compassionate, hands-on care while advocating for patients who may feel overlooked or underserved. I am especially drawn to working in the prison system, where inmates often face limited access to healthcare. I want to ensure that these individuals receive proper medical attention, education about their health, and dignity during vulnerable times. Nursing, for me, is not just a career—it is a calling to serve those who need it most.
My future plans after completing LPN school involve working in correctional healthcare. I hope to combine my clinical skills with education and advocacy to improve the health outcomes of inmates. Beyond that, I aspire to continue my education to become a registered nurse and eventually specialize in areas where I can make a significant difference for marginalized populations. My long-term goal is to create programs or initiatives that provide inmates with better access to preventive care, chronic disease management, and mental health support. By addressing health disparities within the prison system, I hope to empower individuals to take control of their well-being, even in challenging circumstances.
My passion for nursing and advocacy is rooted in personal experience and the adversities I have faced in life. A defining moment came when my 6-year-old son and I experienced homelessness. There was a time when we had no place to stay and were forced to sleep in our car. Those nights were difficult, uncertain, and emotionally overwhelming, but I refused to give up. I focused on what I could control: finding temporary housing, seeking community resources, and maintaining stability for my son. I worked tirelessly to improve our situation, prioritizing safety, health, and education despite the hardships. Through persistence, resourcefulness, and determination, we eventually secured a stable home, and I was able to enroll in nursing school. This experience taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of hope. It also deepened my empathy for others facing barriers to healthcare and basic necessities—an empathy I carry into my work as a future nurse.
Overcoming homelessness reinforced my commitment to nursing and fueled my determination to pursue a career where I can make a real difference. I understand the profound impact that compassionate care and access to healthcare can have on someone’s life. I am committed to using my education, experiences, and passion to serve individuals who are often overlooked, advocate for better healthcare practices, and inspire hope in challenging circumstances. Breast health education is deeply personal to me because it represents hope, empowerment, and the chance to make a difference in the lives of women and families. As a single mother to my 6-year-old son, I know the responsibility of caring not only for someone else but also for myself. Staying healthy is not just about me—it is about being present for him, showing him the importance of self-care, and modeling resilience. This understanding is what fuels my passion for nursing and, more specifically, for educating women about breast health.
My journey to healthcare has been shaped by both personal experience and professional observation. Working as a medical assistant at Health Motivation, I see patients every day who are navigating the uncertainty and fear of medical diagnoses. I have witnessed how a lack of awareness about breast health can lead to delayed detection of disease, unnecessary anxiety, and preventable outcomes. At the same time, I have seen the power of knowledge—patients who understand their bodies and have the tools to monitor their health are empowered to act early, advocate for themselves, and sometimes even save their own lives. This duality—fear without education and empowerment with it—has inspired me to dedicate my career to spreading awareness and education.
Being a single mother adds urgency and perspective to my goal. I think about my son every day and the world he will grow up in. I want him to see women—including his mother—not only caring for others but also prioritizing their own health. I want to instill in him the understanding that health is both personal and communal, and that education is a key part of prevention. Pursuing an LPN at Hondros College is my path to becoming a nurse who can provide compassionate care while also serving as a mentor and educator. Breast health education is central to this vision because it empowers women to take proactive steps before small concerns become life-threatening problems.
Receiving this scholarship would be transformative. It would allow me to continue my education without the heavy burden of financial stress and give me the tools to impact my community in meaningful ways. I envision creating workshops, providing one-on-one guidance, and fostering conversations that reduce fear and stigma around breast health. I want women to leave these experiences feeling informed, confident, and motivated to advocate for themselves. I want my work to ripple outward, helping families, communities, and future generations understand the importance of early detection and self-care.
In conclusion, breast health education is more than a career interest—it is a personal mission. It represents my commitment to my son, to the women I serve, and to the future I am building through nursing. By supporting my education, this scholarship would not only empower me to succeed but also allow me to empower others with knowledge that can save lives. I am determined to turn my passion into action, using every skill, experience, and lesson I gain to make breast health education a priority for those who need it most.
