My name is Devin Jones, and I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Athletic Training at Jacksonville State University. My ultimate goal is not only to become a certified athletic trainer, but also to be a face of change within the profession. I’ve always had a strong passion for both sports and science, and discovering the connection between the two is what inspired me to pursue this career.
I’m deeply committed to making a lasting impact on the athletes and communities I serve. While I’m open to working in a variety of clinical settings, my long-term aspiration is to work at the professional level, where I can be part of high-performance teams and help elite athletes stay at their peak.
What sets me apart as a scholarship candidate is my genuine compassion, clear vision for the future, and an unstoppable work ethic. I don’t take any opportunity for granted. Every scholarship I receive is not just financial assistance—it’s an investment in someone who is determined to give back through care, leadership, and service in the healthcare field.

My passion for athletic training stems from a lifelong connection to both sports and science. I’ve always been an active individual being involved in athletics, and I’ve consistently found myself drawn to how the human body functions, especially in the context of performance and injury. It wasn’t until I personally experienced a significant injury by tearing my ACL and undergoing reconstructive surgery which was the end of my cheer career. My interest in this field truly ignited after that. During my own rehabilitation process, I gained firsthand insight into the world of athletic training. The certified athletic trainers who guided me through recovery not only helped me physically heal but also opened my eyes to the critical role athletic trainers play in both prevention and recovery. Their deep knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitation techniques inspired me to pursue this profession.
Following my graduation and successful completion of the BOC exam, my immediate goal is to work in the high school setting. I aim to provide care and support for student-athletes across a variety of sports including football, volleyball, and soccer. I believe the high school environment is the perfect place to begin my career, as it allows me to gain a broad range of experience, build trust with young athletes, and establish a solid foundation in clinical practice, documentation, and interprofessional collaboration. Within the first 3 to 5 years, I hope to grow both personally and professionally. Once I feel confident enough and established in my abilities, my plan is to take the next step by working with a professional sports organization—specifically, Nashville’s professional hockey team. This transition would mark the beginning of my professional-level athletic training career. Ultimately, my dream job is to serve as an athletic trainer for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Working with an NFL team, especially one with such a rich history and culture, would be the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
In addition to my academic and clinical responsibilities, I have also immersed myself in a number of extracurricular and professional development opportunities during my first year in the athletic training program. I volunteered at the Cheaha Challenge, an internationally recognized cycling event that draws riders from across the globe who are looking to qualify for the world championships. This experience allowed me to work in a fast-paced endurance sports environment and enhance my emergency response skills. I also participated in the annual Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana as a student sports medicine aide. There, I worked with high-level football athletes and athletic trainers from various regions, further sharpening my communication and evaluation skills.
Currently, I am in the process of applying to serve as a state representative for my university in our state’s athletic training association. I’m excited about the opportunity to advocate for students and contribute to the advancement of our profession at a broader level. Now that I am in the older cohort of my program, I’ve also taken on a mentorship role, supporting the incoming summer cohort and others that will follow. Guiding and encouraging them through their first year is something I take great pride in, just as my mentors once did for me. These experiences have not only expanded my knowledge but also solidified my commitment to becoming the best athletic trainer I can be.
