Bio

Hi! I’m Diego, a motivated student attending Clemson University in the Fall. With a love for learning and reaching for the moon, I'm pursuing a college education with a Major in Computer Science. My goal is to graduate and have some type of impact in this world. I also aspire to have a successful career in guiding others towards similar goals, and I hope to build valuable connections through the process. Besides my career goals, I have seven siblings who motivate me to thrive, I've played soccer my entire life, and I recently started to enjoy watching college sports. I also enjoy doing volunteer services for the community. I'm dedicated to continuing my path of learning computing in college. I hope one day I can guide the youth on not making similar mistakes that I've learned from.

Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
I want to start by saying that I am sorry for the loved ones Jack Terry has lost. The Holocaust is a gruesome topic to talk about, and when talking about it, I like to not look at pictures or hear much about it because it brings sadness to what these people went through in the concentration camps. Jack Terry's story inspired me to look at the good in this world and to be grateful for having my loved ones present. I come from a big family, which includes five brothers and two sisters. My parents are both from Guanajuato, Mexico, and came to the United States around the 2000s. I was the last child and the only child born in the U.S. Growing up, my first language was Spanish, and throughout elementary school, I struggled having to learn English. Throughout the year, I learned how to speak it, write it, and other skills. I look back at the struggles I went through and see that I am not the only person who had to go through this. My siblings once told me that I am lucky to be able to know two languages fluently. Only a few of my siblings finished high school, three of them went to college, and only one of the three attended Clemson University and got his major in packaging science. Thanks to my family, I can be where I am now and have support throughout school. Hard-working people who have come from nothing to become something in life inspire me to want to continue with my studies and work towards a B.S. in Computer Science. Throughout the majority of my high school career, I did not know what I wanted to do after. During all my high school years, I worked hard and pushed myself to become the best version. I have taken courses that were not meant for me, but by taking risks and struggling, I always succeeded. The beginning of senior year was one of the most difficult times yet. My grandpa from my mom's side was ill for the majority of 2024 and went through various surgeries. On September 9th, 2024, he passed away due to an illness that was destroying his body inside. At this time, I did not let my emotions take over; I still attended school and did everything that I needed to do to prepare myself for college. I look back at all the struggles I have gone through, and I believe that they have all taught me something valuable. Facing obstacles is normal, and they are opportunities to grow. As I continue working towards my goal, I hope to leave an impact on the world by being able to help other people as much as I can. I am an uncle of 16 kids, and I plan to guide them through high school and try to make their decisions easier. In the long run, I hope to learn new skills that I can use to solve technology problems or enhance technology.
