The world can be a dark place for many people, but I believe music has the power to fill one's heart with beautiful things. You can connect with others and inspire through music, and that is what we need. My passion for music started when I joined "El Sistema", a music education program in Venezuela where children and youth have free access to the beauty of the orchestral experience. I discovered that what I enjoyed the most about playing the violin was sharing the stage with other musicians as well as helping others improve. Studying music has shaped the person I am today: I developed discipline, tolerance, patience, fellowship, solidarity, respect, and responsibility.
During my time in orchestra, I had the opportunity to become a section leader and substitute teacher. I had the power to use my knowledge to help others improve, and those have been the most rewarding experiences I have had in my life. There have been teachers that have changed my life with their words and have inspired me not only to work hard as a violinist but to improve as a person.
My current violin teacher said to our violin studio once: "The world is big enough for us as musicians. Help each other grow and improve." And that makes me think that I have been very lucky to have amazing teachers with not only admirable patience but also beautiful hearts. I will always look up to them and that is why I see myself teaching kids in the future. Following the steps of “El Sistema” I dream of having my own studio, accessible to kids from all backgrounds, and my goal is to give them memorable childhoods.
I am very patient when it comes to teaching and I am willing to be a safe place for every kid that comes to me, wishing to learn how to play the violin. I want to teach both individual lessons and group lessons, so kids get to make friends and grow a sense of fellowship just like I did. We need to care for and share with the people we have around us. We cannot change the world, but we can change our lives and the lives of the people surrounding us.
