Hello and thank you for visiting my profile! My name is Diana and I am a junior at Colorado College where I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Spanish. This field enables me to embody my core values of activism, social justice, and service. With a background in Sociology and a prospective career as a social worker, I aspire to help disadvantaged groups of people. In particular, I plan to join an organization that works closely with Latin American immigrants in the United States. Having been raised by a mother who immigrated to the states and integrated into Chicago’s Latino community, I am familiar with the experiences, struggles, and hardships faced by this group of people. My personal connection to this issue has impassioned me to serve this community and work to challenge negative narratives, harmful policies, and inhumane living conditions that often hinder the well-being of Latin American immigrants in the United States.
Being awarded scholarships would alleviate the financial stress the cost of my education has placed on myself and my mother, enabling me to complete my education and fulfill my goals of helping those in need. Given that my mother is the only individual in my family who provides financial support, paying for college tuition has created a strain on our financial situation as she not only has to cover her own costs but also maintains my grandparents. Additionally, I plan to attend graduate school so as to be a certified social worker. This will be a costly investment, one that will once again create a financial burden.
