I read books daily.
I am a non-traditional student with a very non-traditional background. I hit the ground running after high school, choosing to work with non-profits and ministries in anti-human trafficking efforts focused on education and awareness, recovery, and rehabilitation. Living internationally at 18 gave me skills in empathy, cultural competency and sensitivity, intercultural communication, conflict resolution, leadership, and more at a young age. After years dedicated to volunteer work, I held jobs in customer service, retail, banking, and the performing arts before deciding to enroll in college. Attending college as a first-generation, independent student was not difficult. However, staying in college while balancing multiple jobs and developed disabilities has been incredibly challenging. I was accepted and expected to move to Boston for college until a sudden illness derailed that plan. Through support and my own grit, I am now a Junior at the University of South Carolina Upstate and have completed three internships while working on campus as a Career Coach. These internships have given me the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and compliance. Now, I am passionate about walking alongside people and organizations toward success, as well as artistic expression that improves mental health and wellbeing. From my own experiences, I see obstacles and challenges as opportunities to learn, improve, and prove to ourselves that we can accomplish anything with appropriate support and determination.
