Matthew E. Minor Memorial Scholarship
Hi, my name is Diamond Harris, and I’m a senior at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Mobile, Alabama. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the healthcare field specifically medicine. There’s something so inspiring about how science and technology can come together to heal, to save lives, and to bring hope to families. That passion led me to set my sights on becoming a biomedical engineer. I want to be part of the innovations that change lives for the better, especially in communities that don’t always have access to the care they need.
As I look ahead to college, my dream is to attend Clark Atlanta University. I was drawn to CAU not only for its academic excellence but also for its supportive, empowering environment, especially for students of color. Being from out of state, though, makes it a financial challenge. With total costs reaching over $100,000 a year, I know I’ll need much scholarship support to make it happen. But I’m determined, and I believe in investing in dreams mine and others.
Outside of school and career goals, one of the most important parts of who I am is how I show up for others. I’ve always had a soft spot for kids and teens, especially those going through hard times like I did. Being in and out of school, and dealing with instability it wasn’t easy growing up. That’s why I try to be a source of light for people around me. Whether it’s offering advice, praying for someone, or just being there to listen, I try to guide younger kids and peers toward a better path. I want them to know they’re not alone.
I’m not perfect, but I’ve learned a lot from my own mistakes. If I can help even one person avoid some of the pain I went through, then I’ve done something right. That’s also why I’m so passionate about standing up against bullying and cyberbullying. I haven’t been bullied myself, but I’ve seen people close to me go through it. I lost a dear friend this year because of it. They were struggling silently, and the pain eventually became too much. That loss broke something in me and it also lit a fire.
Since then, I’ve made it a personal mission to be there for others in every way I can. I always tell people: if you’re hurting, say something anything. One word is enough for me to know you need help, and I’ll be there. I never want anyone else to feel like they’re suffering alone. No one should carry that kind of pain by themselves.
In the future, I hope to combine my passion for medicine with my heart for people. Through biomedical engineering and through everyday acts of kindness, I want to make a difference in big ways and small ones. Because everyone deserves to feel seen, safe and supported.
Solomon Vann Memorial Scholarship
Hello, my name is Diamond Harris, and I am a student at Mary G. Montgomery High School. I’m currently entering my senior year, and I want to take a moment to reflect on the journey that has brought me to this point. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge that reaching this milestone has been a mental and emotional challenge one I once thought I was prepared to face alone. Now, I can confidently say I would not have made it without the grace and guidance of my Lord and Savior.
Mental health has played a major role in shaping my high school experience. At first, I didn’t give it the attention it deserved. I used to think I could handle everything on my own. I let my pride lead the way, believing that asking for help or slowing down meant weakness. Over time, that mindset slowly broke me down. I began to lose myself by constantly pushing without pausing to care for my well-being.
There were moments when I could hardly recognize myself. Even outside of school, I found myself struggling falling deeper into sadness and isolation. It hurt to look in the mirror and see someone who felt so lost. But through all of that, I came to understand how important it is to prioritize mental health and self-care. I also realized that I needed to build a stronger relationship with God. That decision changed everything for me.
Today, I want to encourage others who may feel like they’re carrying too much on their shoulders: remember that you are human, too. It’s okay to pause. It’s okay to not have everything together all the time. Your schoolwork, job, and responsibilities should never come at the cost of your peace or personal well-being.
Self-care is not selfish it is necessary. And most importantly, never give up on yourself or your faith. I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t learned to lean on God, to slow down, and to be kinder to myself. My message is simple: take care of your mind, spirit, and heart. You are worthy of grace and growth.
Receiving this scholarship represents a significant opportunity for me to improve my education and reach new heights in my academic journey. I am eager to transform this opportunity into a stepping stone that will enable me to achieve remarkable accomplishments. I aspire not only to excel in my studies but also to demonstrate to the sponsors that their support is making a meaningful impact. It’s important to me to make my family proud by showcasing how far I’ve come and the dedication I have to my personal and educational growth. With this scholarship, I am determined to make the most of my potential and ultimately contribute positively to my community and beyond.

Hiii! My name is Diamond Harris, and I proudly represent the tiny but mighty town of Wilmer, Alabama. I'm a student at Mary G. Montgomery High School, currently serving as the upcoming Senior Class Chaplain for the Class of 2026 (yes, I'm basically the spiritual hype-woman of the senior class). I'm also involved in two clubs but who's counting? Now, let’s get something straight: I believe scholarships shouldn't just be all stiff and serious like a job interview with a robot. Where’s the personality? Where’s the sparkle? Where’s the wild side? I say let the real you shine through quirks, giggles, and all. Me? I’m goofy, energetic, and probably laugh at my own jokes more than I should. But I wouldn’t change it, because I genuinely believe happiness is contagious, and I try to sprinkle it around like glitter (the kind that never leaves). That doesn’t mean I can’t handle serious moments I can and I do. But I also believe every now and then, you’ve got to let your “spirit animal” out. Mine might be a dancing llama or a caffeinated golden retriever, depending on the day. Either way, life’s too short to be beige. Let’s be neon. On the deeper side of things, I'm all about faith. My relationship with God is at the center of who I am, and I believe true joy starts with Him. That said, I don’t push my beliefs on anyone. I'd rather live by example being kind, joyful, and just a little goofy so people can feel the light without being blinded by it. So yeah, I’m Diamond. I’m full of color, full of joy, and definitely full of personality. I love interacting with others it gives a sense of joy. I pray to hear from you soon!!!
