Hi! I'm interested in pursuing a career in the Veterinarian field. I've always loved animals from a young age and to this day still love them dearly. I'm a first generation college student and have a single parent. As much as I know she'd like to help pay for school, I know thats it's not in her means to do so. My dream school, NC State, cost about 203k to attend for 4 years and I'm trying to best to get as many scholarships as possible to help cover that cost to avoid having to take out any student loans.

Growing up and to this day, I live in the country. There are lots of farms where I live, most of my neighbors had and/or have dogs and there were lots of feral cats around. In 2014, my grandpa got me a puppy for Christmas. Taylor is still with us today at nine years old. I also rescued two kittens, one of which passed away a year after we got her due to RSV, and Zorro who is still with us. I take care of my pets as if they were my children. My family says I go overboard for getting them sweaters when it's cold and letting the outside pets sleep with me when it's too cold but I care about them. Once while staying with my grandmother in DC, her schnauzer Della B wasn't acting how she usually does. I told everyone and they brushed it off as if it was nothing. Sure enough the next day she had to be put down due to fluids in her lungs. Recently, my dog Taylor has been favoring one hind leg over the other and hasn't been as active as she usually is. We took her to the vet and found out she has arthritis. My cat Zorro gets a respiratory infection during the warm-to-cold weather change and has rapid-fire sneezing so every year, I get it checked up on to ensure nothing is underlying. I say all this to emphasize how much I care about my pets and pay attention to them to pick up on these small things that someone may overlook; I know my pets.
I know that this is a career I would be happy with and I would love to be a vet someday! Unlike people who join careers for the money, I would be joining for the experience of doing something I enjoy, helping animals. I would love to work with a variety of animals not limited to your typical household pets. I'd like to work with farm animals, reptiles and other exotic animals in addition to those household pets. I would like to be very well-rounded in my trade and maybe even travel with it going to different states.
I'd like to major in Zoology, Animal Science, or Veterinary technology all of which are centered around animals. With Zoology, I'd be able to help all types of animals and working at a zoo would be pretty ideal if I could work with different species. Animal Science and Veterinary Technology would allow me to be flexible with what I'd be able to do and I'm up for that as well. So long as I can help animals, I will be perfectly fine with my career path.
