My name is Lediamond Allotey, and I am from Reno, Nevada. I am an upcoming senior. I will graduate in 2024 and am trying to manage my financial situation before I reach college. I am passionate about attending the University of Nevada Reno in Fall 2024. I want to take courses such as American American Studies and major in either psychology or something in the criminal justice field. I would be a tremendous candid for receiving these scholarships because, throughout my entire high school experience, I've always been able to work hard on whatever project I am given. Regardless of the project, I will always put my all. If I do receive any scholarship, it'll somewhat ease my mind financially so I can put all my focus on my education.
If any donors are willing to offer me any of their phenomenal scholarships, I appreciate your consideration. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my page! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

"What do you want to major in college?" I swear I have heard this exact sentence over a thousand times. My answer was always, "I do not know yet" or "I have so much time to decide." Now that the years of me saying both phrases are slowly crashing in. I am now approaching my senior year. I thought I had less time than I did. When I was young, I had so many ideas of what I wanted my future to just like any child did, from wanting to be a teacher to a doctor; I even considered being an author in 5th grade because I always loved to read. However, not until recently did I realize that I would like to have a profession that can benefit my community somehow.
I remember watching When They See Us with my mom a couple of years ago while she braided my hair which would take hours. We sat there and watched the show for hours. The Netflix show I am referring to takes place around 1989, and five African American teenage boys who lived in New York were being wrongfully accused of sexually and physically assaulting a white woman. The show allows the viewers to be engaged in the show by showing us all the emotional distress these boys went through. Furthermore, the boys were not released from prison until 2002, meaning they were not released until their mid-forties.
This show showed me how the criminal justice system needs to make some changes to ensure something like this does not happen nearly as much as it did when those four boys were charged. In the state of Nevada, where I live, have been fourteen victims wrongly accused of actions they did not commit. While fourteen is a minimal number compared to New York, where there have been over 281 victims who have been wrongly accused of acts such as murder, sexual assault, child sex abuse, drugs, robbery, and more far beyond what you think. I want to positively impact the world by becoming a post-conviction attorney. My job would be to represent someone after they have been convicted of a crime. I will be able to make sure the person I am in a case for gets all the justice they need so that they can live the life they deserve. In comparison, I understand that a profession like the one I am considering will take a lot of brain power and strength. I know it is something that I am passionate about partaking in.
