Pursuing a career in marketing was my last choice. Growing up I have always had a free-spirited mindset and the idea of choosing a career within the business field made me tremble. I always thought I would be an artist of some sort. Nevertheless, after doing industry research during my senior year of high school, I fell in love with the idea. I wanted to choose a career that was stable but also allowed me to have a creative mind. After being in deep thought, I realized that marketing is a powerful art form. I am pursuing marketing due to my outstanding sense of creativity and passion for art, music, and social activism. I believe that marketing can be a powerful instrument for composing social change by creating better representation and projecting moral causes into the world. I aspire to use marketing as a way to fuse creative content and activism for the betterment of society. To fulfill my goals, I decided to major in marketing and minor in new media art. My major will provide me with the essential skills it takes to be successful in the marketing industry. My minor will help broaden my skills in the art field. I plan to use this minor to learn more about graphic design. I am aiming to add graphic design to my skill set because I believe that is vital to marketing. I also hope to gain more experience within different industries such as marketing, financial, and entertainment to execute my dreams Coming into the marketing field I know I will face challenges as a black woman in a white male-dominated industry. However, I am constantly motivated knowing that I can use my abilities to eliminate those challenges for individuals like me; just as my ancestors went through obstacles to get to where I am today. I believe that obstacles are important to go through in order to be impactful in life. My long-term career goal is to become a creative director or advertising executive for a music label. I have a strong passion for music and I would love to combine that passion with my marketing skills to create a career that I love. To achieve this goal I am seeking internships in the related fields and mentorships to help guide me along my career journey. I also have dreams of owning multiple businesses and using my abilities to elevate African-American wealth. With my marketing experience, I plan to create my own marketing agency. With this agency, I intend to aid black-owned businesses with my services. My agency will be a resource, providing better promotion of black-owned businesses' products or services. My ultimate goal is to enhance their sales, increasing their income which will lead to building black wealth. I believe that the Black-White wealth gap is a major issue within society and I plan to eliminate it. To accomplish this goal, I have created my own small business, for the experience. Due to my strong photography skills, I have decided to provide my services to college students, currently taking graduation and creative photos for students on my campus. I have also done some marketing projects for my mother's black-owned business of handpainted planters. In conclusion, I want to be a successful creator, businesswoman, and mogul. I aspire to positively impact the world through marketing and uplift my community by breaking generational curses.
