Throughout the past few months, I've explored the roles of creativity and passion as primary causes of happiness and purposefulness. Creative or passionate self-expression forms may consist of art forms like music, paintings, and poetry. I've found that such creative mediums tend to lead to self-fulfillment in either of two ways: by consuming/appreciating such mediums and by creating or participating in such mediums. As a music enthusiast and beat-maker who greatly enjoys creative outlets or mediums such as music production and poetic lyrics, I've experienced both of these ways in which I've been fulfilled or satisfied by producing or listening to self-expressive art. Arguably, our primary goal in life is to spread appreciation and entertain activities that we genuinely enjoy. Direct and objective pursuit of happiness is unreasonable because authentic joy derives from the interests we value the most. Instead, this immediate pursuit is somewhat counter-productive because a narrow-minded desire for pleasure will result in dissatisfaction from lacking long-term happiness. Pursuit of passion motivates us, while pursuing happiness has no direct path. Happiness is an emotional process that can kill one's inner-drive and initial inspiration when viewed from a radically rational perspective. Mavi is a neuroscience major, philosophist, musician, and poet from Charlotte, North Carolina, who sings in the middle of his debut album, "My wallet in my ribcage. I love love enough for comfort, knowing money [goes] with it." This single, titled "Love, of Money," is an ode of appreciation for Mavi reaching joy and self-fulfillment in his life. This metaphoric lyric expresses how his passion and journey for obtaining wealth and genuine love ultimately provided Mavi with happiness in his current state of life. Happiness cannot be accepted as a sole goal but must come about as a byproduct of personal interests and striving for wholehearted activities or achievements. Although such emotion is unique and generally familiar, a more realistic pathway of desires and priorities is the most effective method. I enjoy using this lyric from Mavi for my perspective on the significance of creativity and passion in our lives. Plenty of songs from him dramatically impacted my views and attitudes towards several other aspects of life. The way Mavi puts unique ideas and emotions into words never fails to spark my intellectual and philosophical curiosity. This song lyric is another example of how consuming self-expressive art leads to self-fulfillment. I greatly appreciate abstract musical artists such as Mavi and his adventurous lyricism, which makes me feel intellectually represented in such a creative manner. "Chinese Finger Trap" is a song by MAVI that represents my life because it doesn't fear to touch on working hard despite a lack of hope, barely maintaining faith throughout personal circumstances, the fear of being judged, and the idea of seeing my mom witness how my mind and personality are changing over time. Music is often overlooked but I believe that our taste in music directly correlates with our current emotion or state of mind. I would love to explore further creativity, passion, and self-expressive art forms and the role that they play in our lives. I'd assume those factors play different roles in our lives depending on our respective ages, morals, and priorities. I can explore this idea by speaking to a psychology teacher at my school and my current Mass Communications professor because both subjects are mindful of how we consume and interpret forms of media such as contemporary art and lyrical music.

I am committed to pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering due to my interest in the field of Computer Science. Despite coming from a low-income family as an African American man in the San Fernando Valley, I seek any and every beneficial opportunity to improve my own life, the well-being of my family, my education, the attainability of my technological career, and the capabilities of my knowledge. Although I am one of the very few African American students in my school, I remain near the top of my junior class as a STEMM student who has passed and is passing a total of five AP courses. I've already learned created from Advanced Game Design and Development, Computer Science Explorations, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science A, so it's only reasonable for me to continue my pursuit as a software engineer within a society that has a future potentially oriented around the implementations of technology and computers. Technology developed by computer science is the metaphoric symbol of how our future and our society are bound to become like. This scholarship would fund my college application fees as well as a portable laptop intended for college use and software development projects. Such scholarships allow students like me in inadequate financial situations to access tools that provide convenience and educational opportunities, which would greatly be appreciated as it allows me to reach my full potential in life, within my education, and in my career. I would contribute to the development of applications and digital audio workstations that advance the capabilities of sound and music engineering. Such virtual applications would change the workflow efficiency, quality, and perspective of sound mixing, whether it be used for professionally mixing the stems to musical records or for the scores and background audio of feature films. Strangers may immediately become friends when they share the same interests in movies and music, which demonstrates the prominence of visual and audio art. Other expressive artists would be able to use my applications to draw out their unique ideas and illustrate their imagination, and self-expression is a healthy form of communication.
