Bio

My name is Destiny, and I’m a 26 year old mother from Indiana pursuing online studies in medical terminology. My long-term goal is to become a certified medical coder so I can build a stable, remote career that allows me to stay home with my daughter while caring for my elderly grandmother whom my daughter and I live with. Education is deeply important to me because I want to set a positive example for my child and create a secure future for my family. Although I don’t currently receive financial aid due to past circumstances, I’m committed to continuing my education and rebuilding my academic progress one step at a time. Balancing school, caregiving, and motherhood has taught me resilience, time management, and the value of perseverance. Receiving a scholarship would not only help ease my financial burden but also bring me closer to achieving a career that blends compassion, flexibility, and purpose in the healthcare field.

Recovery, to me, means reclaiming my life and choosing a path of hope, growth, and responsibility. It is more than simply stopping harmful behaviors; it is about learning to face challenges with honesty, resilience, and self-love. Recovery has taught me to reflect on my past without judgment, to understand my mistakes, and to use those experiences as tools for personal growth. It has shown me that even the darkest moments do not define who I am or who I can become. Recovery has also reshaped my perspective as a mother. It has given me the clarity and strength to prioritize the well-being of my daughter and ensure that she grows up in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. Knowing that my choices directly impact her life motivates me to remain strong and committed to living a healthier, more purposeful life. Through recovery, I have discovered the power of resilience, empathy, and self-discipline. I have learned to seek support when I need it, to forgive myself for setbacks, and to celebrate every small victory. Recovery is not a destination but a continuous journey of growth and self-improvement. It reminds me that change is possible, even when the odds seem impossible. Ultimately, recovery means hope. It means choosing life, choosing love, and choosing a future where I can be a role model for my daughter and inspire others who face similar struggles. Recovery is the foundation on which I am building a better life for myself and my family.

My past has not been easy, but it has shaped me into the person I am today. I struggled with addiction, a battle that began with isolation and the need to escape. I shut people out, believing I had to face everything alone. My world became small, revolving around my boyfriend and me, and I watched someone I loved change into a person I barely recognized. The experience was painful and confusing, filled with moments of fear, anger, and loneliness. I felt trapped in a cycle I did not know how to break, and my life became a series of relapses, withdrawals, and endless attempts to regain control. Recovery was one of the hardest things I have ever faced. Each attempt to get sober was met with challenges, moments of weakness, and the temptation to return to old habits. Withdrawal was both physical and emotional, leaving me exhausted and questioning if I could truly change. But motherhood gave me a new perspective. Two weeks after finally getting sober, I discovered I was pregnant. That moment shifted everything. I knew I could never go back to that path, not when another life depended on me. I realized that the struggles I had faced could become the foundation for a stronger, more purposeful future. Being a single mother has taught me resilience and unconditional love. Raising my daughter on my own, while also being the primary caregiver for my grandmother and attending school, requires patience, organization, and immense determination. Every day brings challenges, but it also brings small victories. Her laughter, her first words, and quiet moments of connection remind me why I work so hard. These experiences have reinforced my belief that love, presence, and commitment matter more than anything else. My past has also inspired my future goals. I want to use my experiences to help others facing similar struggles. I understand the pain of addiction, the difficulty of recovery, and the hope that comes with change. I want to show others that it is possible to rise above past mistakes, embrace personal growth, and build a better life. My journey has taught me empathy, patience, and perseverance, and I hope to share these lessons with people who are searching for guidance and hope. Though my journey has been challenging, I am proud of who I have become. I am a mother, a caregiver, a student, and someone who has faced her past and chosen a brighter future. My experiences have shaped my resilience, my compassion, and my determination to make a difference. I am committed to creating a life for my daughter, my family, and myself that is grounded in love, growth, and the possibility of change.
    Sola Family Scholarship
Becoming a mother transformed my life in ways I never imagined. As a single mother, I have faced challenges that tested my strength, patience, and determination. There were moments of doubt, long nights, and days when balancing school, parenting, and caring for my grandmother seemed impossible. Yet, every challenge has shaped me into a stronger, more resilient person and fueled my determination to create a better future for my daughter and my family. Motherhood also gave me a new perspective on my past. I have overcome struggles with addiction, and becoming a mother changed everything for me. I realized that my choices affect not only myself but also the life of my child. The love I feel for her has given me the motivation to never return to that path. I am determined to live a life filled with hope, responsibility, and purpose, showing my daughter that we can rise above our past and choose better for ourselves. Raising my daughter as a single parent has taught me the meaning of unconditional love. Her laughter brightens even the hardest days, and her small milestones, learning new words, taking her first steps, or simply sharing quiet moments together, remind me why all the sacrifices are worth it. Motherhood has shown me that love and presence matter far more than perfection or material comfort. These joyful experiences are the heartbeat of my life and inspire me to keep striving for success, no matter how difficult the journey. In addition to being a mother, I am the primary caregiver for my grandmother. Balancing her care, my daughter’s needs, and my education has demanded resilience, organization, and empathy. There are days when it feels overwhelming, but these responsibilities have taught me how to prioritize, manage my time effectively, and approach life with patience and compassion. I have learned that true strength is not just in enduring challenges, but in showing love, kindness, and commitment despite them. Attending school while carrying these responsibilities is not easy, but it has reinforced my determination to achieve my goals. I am pursuing my education not only to improve my own life, but to set an example for my daughter and ensure that our family has a brighter future. Each assignment I complete and each lesson I learn is a step toward building the life I envision for my family. Through motherhood, caregiving, and education, I have discovered resilience, empathy, and the power of perseverance. I have learned to celebrate small victories, find joy in everyday moments, and embrace the challenges that shape who I am. Motherhood has taught me that life is rarely easy, but it is filled with love, purpose, and growth. I am proud of the person I have become: a mother, a caregiver, a student, and someone committed to creating a better future for the people I love most.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
Wicked has always been one of those stories that sticks with you. It’s not just about witches or magic, it’s about friendship, courage, and learning to stay true to who you are even when people don’t understand you. That’s why I’ve always loved it, and why I’m so excited for the new Wicked movie with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. Seeing such strong, talented women bring this story to life feels powerful and inspiring. What I’ve always loved most about Wicked is the message behind it. Elphaba, the “Wicked Witch,” isn’t really wicked at all. She’s brave, passionate, and misunderstood. She stands up for what’s right even when it costs her everything. That’s something I really relate to, trying to do the right thing even when people doubt you or when life gets hard. Wicked reminds me that being different isn’t a weakness, it’s a kind of strength. The music has always been my favorite part. Defying Gravity gives me chills every single time because it’s all about letting go of fear and believing in yourself no matter what’s holding you back. As a mom and student, that message hits home for me. It reminds me that even when things feel impossible, I can keep pushing forward. And For Good always makes me emotional, it’s such a beautiful reminder that the people we meet can change our lives in ways we never expect. Seeing Ariana Grande finally play Glinda makes it even more special. She’s loved Wicked for years, and now she’s living that dream. It’s proof that dreams really can come full circle if you don’t give up on them. I’m a fan of Wicked because it celebrates courage, kindness, and the beauty of being different. It reminds me that no matter what challenges come your way, you have the power to rise above and to defy gravity.
    Promising Pathways-Single Parent Scholarship
I’m currently studying Medical Billing and Coding with the goal of earning my certification and beginning a stable remote career in healthcare administration. I’ve always been drawn to the medical field, but I also needed a path that allows me to balance caring for my family while supporting us financially. This program is helping me build a career that provides both flexibility and security. Two things that mean everything to me as a single mother and caregiver. Returning to school after several years has been both exciting and challenging. I first attended college right out of high school but didn’t complete my degree because I had to focus on working full-time to support myself. That decision now impacts my financial aid eligibility, which makes continuing my education more difficult. Still, I’ve learned that sometimes the longer road teaches the most valuable lessons. Now, with more life experience, I approach school with a deeper sense of purpose and determination than ever before. Balancing schoolwork with motherhood and caring for my grandmother has required patience, strength, and constant time management. My days start early and end late. Between feeding my daughter, managing household responsibilities, and making sure my grandmother has everything she needs, I often do my homework late at night after everyone is asleep. There are times when exhaustion hits hard, but my motivation never fades. When I see my daughter watching me study, I’m reminded that I’m showing her what perseverance looks like. I want her to grow up knowing that no matter how difficult life gets, education and effort can change your circumstances. As a first-generation college student and single parent, I’ve had to overcome self-doubt, financial struggles, and the fear of starting over without my daughters father in the picture it has been challenging but every challenge has made me stronger. My journey isn’t perfect, but it’s real and it’s driven by love and determination. Once I finish my degree, my goal is to begin working from home as a certified medical coder. This career will allow me to provide financial stability for my daughter while continuing to care for my grandmother. Long-term, I hope to advance into healthcare management and eventually help other parents who are trying to balance family responsibilities with education and career goals. This scholarship would mean more than financial help, it would be a symbol of hope and recognition for the hard work I’ve put into building a better life for my family. I may have taken a nontraditional path, but I’m proud of the woman, mother, and student I’ve become along the way.
    Bick First Generation Scholarship
Being a first-generation college student means breaking a cycle and building a better future not just for myself, but for my family. I’m proud to be paving a new path. One that shows my daughter that education and perseverance can open doors no matter how hard life gets. My journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has made me stronger and more determined to keep going. Right after high school, I attended college full of excitement and hope. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish. Like many first-generation students, I had to choose between continuing school or working to support myself. I chose work, and while that decision helped me survive at the time, it now affects my financial aid eligibility. Even so, I’m not giving up. Seven years later, my life looks completely different. I’m now a mom and the full-time caregiver for my grandmother. Balancing both while returning to school for medical billing and coding has taught me patience, resilience, and purpose. My days are full, but so is my heart. I study during my daughter’s naps or late at night, motivated by the vision of a stable future for us. There are moments when it feels overwhelming, when the bills pile up or when I wonder how I’ll manage it all, I look at my daughter and remember why I’m doing this. I want her to see that no matter what life throws at you, you can still chase your dreams. This scholarship would relieve a huge financial burden and allow me to focus more on my studies rather than constantly worrying about how to afford school. It would bring me one step closer to completing my certification and starting a career that allows me to work from home, support my family, and provide the stability we deserve. Being a first-generation student means believing in possibilities that no one has shown you before. It’s about courage, sacrifice, and faith in a better future. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m ready to keep moving forward with determination and heart. This scholarship would not only help me reach my goals, it would help me show my daughter that persistence can truly change a life.
    Community College Matters Scholarship
Life has a way of teaching you lessons through challenges, and my journey has been no exception. I’m a single mother and full-time caregiver for my 87-year-old grandmother. Balancing these responsibilities while pursuing higher education has been difficult, but it has also given me purpose, resilience, and determination to succeed. I first attended college years ago but had to leave in 2019, and returning to school has not been easy. In 2025, I came back with hope and determination, only to lose my financial aid. Now, I’m paying out of pocket for my classes—a burden that may make it impossible to continue without support. This setback has been discouraging, but it has also strengthened my resolve to finish what I started and build a stable future for my family. Community college offers the flexibility I need to pursue my goals while caring for my daughter and grandmother. I am studying medical coding because it will allow me to work remotely, providing financial stability while remaining present for my family. My ultimate goal is to continue my education, advance in my career, and one day mentor other mothers who are navigating similar paths. Every late-night study session and sacrifice I make is for my daughter. I want her to grow up knowing that no matter the obstacles, you can rise again, rebuild, and create a brighter future. Receiving this scholarship would lift the financial burden that stands in my way and make it possible for me to continue my education. It would not only change my life but also the life of my daughter, giving us hope, stability, and the tools to thrive.
    Purple Dream Scholarship
Becoming a mother changed everything for me. When my daughter was born, I knew my life’s purpose was no longer just about surviving—it was about building a future strong enough to hold both of us. I’m a single mother, a full-time caregiver for my 87-year-old grandmother, and someone who is rebuilding her education after years of setbacks. It hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has strengthened my determination to succeed. In 2019, I had to step away from college. Life hit hard, and I didn’t have the support system or stability to stay enrolled. Losing my financial aid made returning to school feel impossible for a long time. But after becoming a mom, my priorities shifted—I realized education isn’t just a dream, it’s a necessity. I want my daughter to grow up seeing that even when life knocks you down, you can stand back up stronger. Balancing motherhood, caregiving, and coursework is exhausting, but it’s also empowering. My days are filled with bottles, bedtime stories, and caring for my grandmother, yet when my house finally grows quiet, I open my laptop and study. I chose medical coding because it allows me to work remotely from home while still being present for the two people who need me most. I want a stable, flexible career that will give my family financial security and allow me to break the cycle of struggle that has followed us for generations. This journey has reshaped my values entirely. I’ve learned patience, perseverance, and self-reliance. I’ve learned that strength isn’t about having it all together—it’s about continuing to move forward even when everything feels impossible. My education is more than a degree; it’s the key to independence, stability, and hope. Receiving this scholarship would change everything. It would lift a huge financial weight off my shoulders and allow me to focus on my studies without worrying how to stretch my savings each month. It would mean one less barrier standing between my daughter and the life I’m fighting to give her. One less worry and one step closer to the life I am building for us. I want to show her that dreams don’t die just because life gets hard. They grow stronger when you chase them through the storm. With your help, I can finish my education, build a stable career, and create a better future—not just for myself, but for the little girl who looks up to me every single day.
