Dashanna K. McNeil Memorial Scholarship
I’ve realized I wanted to continue my education with nursing when I was in high school under a program for cosmetology. I realized that wasn’t the path I wanted to take. Instead I searched the best nursing programmed schools and applied. I’ve gotten accepted into majority of my schools I’ve applied to with a gpa of 3.8. However In college things took a turn. My current gpa is a 3.385 due to the fact of me retaking certain courses. I am back on track and currently in the process of transferring but I also financially can’t afford much without taking out a loan. I have been applying to a lot of websites for scholarships and haven’t been picked yet.
Debra Victoria Scholarship
Almost every single-parent story is about the same when you really think about it. I grew up with my parents together but my father leaving while I was in elementary-middle school. It’s like he was in and out, one minute he’s here and the next he’s gone. Growing up I always put the blame on my mom because she had a mental illness and I thought she ran him off. But now I see that was not the case at all. “You can’t keep a man that doesn’t want to be kept” My mother was a great mother, she stayed up nights helping my sister and I with our homework making sure we had it done by the next day. Even if it took forever to get it done. She was at every home sports game and any other game she could make it to. Being student-athlete is hard, especially if you don’t really have any support. But I had my mother, i feel as if she does not get the credit she deserves. My father was always in the same city, but my mother was the one paying the bills, paying school fees, and even buying groceries and food. She is truly one of a kind. From her battling her mental health for years AND taking care of two children while trying to keep things at home together. She put her life on pause for us, and now that my sister and I are getting grown she can live hers. I want to be there for her like she was for me. When it came down to college, she always gave me a choice she never forced me to go because she knows the struggles and time it takes to graduate with a degree. I am going to school for me but now that I am here, I am also going for her. I want her to see me walk across another stage getting a diploma in my hand.
Bold Creativity Scholarship
Being creative is something any and everybody can do. I personally love art, my major is nursing but I love to paint and draw on my free time. I typically can look at something and draw it at the same time instead of tracing it like others. Art is like a peace of me that no one can take away. I plan on attending grad school in New York, simply for the culture of art and new experience since I am from South Carolina. My friends and family always support my art and decisions but seeing the support from others who do not know me is even better. It’s like a extra boost of confidence.
I have an interest in fashion but only with my art involved. Just simple designs, nothing too flashy or extra. I have creative friends so getting together with them and clashing our ideas just makes things ten times better. My creativity is in art, but I do plan on learning beyond my skill level to be the best I can be. One thing I really plan and want to do is start a community service with art involved. I got this idea from one of my leadership classes. (We had to make up a community service brand) i want to have an after school program or just a program after school hours for anybody. We all paint, draw, sculpt, anything artistic. You’d have the option to sell your art or just have it displayed in our mini art show where we will accept money to help raise for someone in need whether they are in the program or well known.
