As a first-generation college student, my path has been defined by ambition and self-reliance. Without a family roadmap for higher education, I have been my own advocate, meticulously saving for my future. While my work ethic has built a strong foundation, a significant financial gap remains. This scholarship is the vital bridge I need to achieve my goal: empowering my community through marketing and advertising.
My interest in marketing stems from a lifelong passion for music and theater. On stage, I learned that a great performance is about storytelling and audience connection. I want to apply these creative skills to help small businesses thrive. Local entrepreneurs often have incredible products but lack the resources to tell their stories effectively. My mission is to provide them with the strategic advertising they need to sustain our local economy.
Beyond my career goals, I am deeply committed to community service. Whether volunteering or performing, I have learned the importance of collaborative leadership—the ability to lead with confidence while ensuring the entire team succeeds. These experiences have taught me to manage a demanding schedule with the discipline required to succeed as a first-generation student.
I am not just seeking a degree; I am building a legacy. I am a versatile, dedicated worker ready to transition from the stage to the professional world. With your support, I will use my education to champion the small businesses that make our communities feel like home.

When I was twelve years old, my life was shaped by a reality that many people don't often see. My mom was raising my brother and me on her own, and despite her incredible hard work and resilience, we were struggling to make ends meet. Even though my brother and I were on school fee waivers, things were tight enough that our school meals were often the only reliable food we had for the day. It was a stressful time for a young kid to navigate, but looking back, it ended up teaching me a lesson about kindness and community that I will never forget.
Our local church eventually found out about our situation, and the way the community responded was truly incredible. They didn’t just offer a one-time hand-up; they completely rallied around us as a family. People stepped in to help with our groceries so we didn't have to worry about our next meal, but they also looked at the bigger picture of our future. They helped my mother find a better, more stable job and even supported her as she worked through the challenges of finishing her college degree. That support gave us the stability we desperately needed, but more importantly, it showed me what a community is actually supposed to look like: a group of people who catch you when you fall.
Ever since then, I’ve felt a deep, personal drive to give back to the people around me. I started small by grabbing a shovel and clearing driveways for my neighbors during the winter. It was a simple way to help, but it felt good to finally be the one providing a service rather than just receiving one. That small start eventually grew into a major part of my identity. I realized that even a teenager has the power to make someone else's day a little bit easier.
Today, you can usually find me staying busy with various volunteer projects around town. Whether it’s helping out with the logistics at our local county fair, working shifts at the food bank, or helping vendors at the farmers' market, I love being right in the middle of the action. One of my favorite things to do is help the elderly in our neighborhood with their grocery shopping. It’s a full-circle moment for me; every time I help someone load their car with bags of food, I remember when those bags were being brought into my own house. I know exactly how much it means to have food on the table and a neighbor who genuinely cares.
Looking back, those early challenges changed my life for the better. They helped me realize that a community is more than just a group of people living in the same area—it’s a vital support system. I feel immensely blessed for the help my family received, and I’ve made it my mission to pay that kindness forward every chance I get. I want to be someone others can count on, just like my community was there for me when I needed them most.
