Hi! My name is Destiny Pond. I am a current college freshman who is an aspiring neuroscience major and art minor. I have strived to learn more and foster my creative endeavors all my life! During my high school career, I was on the honor and high honor roll several times, was elected to be a peer mentor by the deans, and won awards from the science, French, and English departments! In addition to my achievements in school, I participated in various things outside of school. I attended summer programs at Brown—where I studied the psychology of stress and trauma where I received the highest grade in the class—and Cornell, participating in organizations like Hartford Girls Rock and Hartford Youth Scholars, and joining various clubs like the Creatives of Color Committee at my college. In my life, I hope to inspire change through art and science (for example, art therapy for students in underprivileged communities). Understanding trauma and how to combat it, especially with children, is very crucial for us. How would we expect to build a future if the children are bogged down by their past? We can't; thus, I'd like to be a part of the change in the world where children can articulate their trauma effectively and simply.
