      1. Cross Country: My Extracurricular Activity Outside of Golf Outside of golf, I was a member of my school’s cross country team. Participating in cross country has been a transformative experience for me, both physically and mentally. The sport demands endurance, discipline, and resilience qualities that have helped me not only as an athlete but also as a student and an individual. Early morning practices and long distance runs have taught me the value of consistency and goal setting. There is a special bond in cross country; even though it is an individual sport, the team supports each other through every practice and race. The encouragement from teammates and the shared sense of accomplishment after a tough meet have made cross country one of the most rewarding activities I have ever joined. Balancing cross country with golf and academics has also strengthened my time management skills and taught me how to prioritize my commitments effectively. 2. My Academic Interests: Computer Science In college, I am interested in studying computer science. My fascination with technology began at a young age, and over the years, it has grown into a genuine passion. I am captivated by the endless possibilities that programming offers from creating video games to developing applications that solve real world problems. What excites me most about computer science is the ability to build something from scratch and watch it come to life through code. I have already started exploring this field by developing small games and apps in my free time, which has deepened my understanding and fueled my ambition to pursue it further. I am eager to learn about algorithms, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, and I hope to use these skills to innovate and make a positive impact on society. 3. Giving Back to My Community Giving back to my community is a core value that I plan to uphold both during and after my college years. While in college, I hope to volunteer as a tutor for local middle and high school students, especially in STEM subjects. I believe that sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for technology can inspire younger students to pursue their own interests in these fields. Additionally, I would like to participate in community outreach programs that introduce coding and computer literacy to those in need. Post graduation, I plan to use my skills to develop apps or platforms that address community needs, such as educational resources or tools that promote health and wellness. Ultimately, I want to leverage my education and experiences to create opportunities for others and contribute to the growth and well being of my community. 4. The Impact of the Hulede Collegiate Golf Scholarship Being a recipient of the Hulede Collegiate Golf Scholarship would have a profound impact on my collegiate experience. Financially, the scholarship would reduce some of the burden of tuition and related expenses, allowing me to focus more on my studies and athletic pursuits rather than worrying about financial constraints. More importantly, the mentorship component of the scholarship is invaluable. Having access to experienced mentors who understand the unique challenges of balancing academics and collegiate golf would provide guidance, encouragement, and practical advice as I navigate this important phase of my life. The support from the Hulede Scholarship would also enable me to participate more fully in golf, as I would have the resources to travel to tournaments, invest in better equipment, and dedicate time to training and self improvement. Furthermore, being part of a network of like minded student athletes would create a sense of community and belonging, motivating me to strive for excellence both on the course and in the classroom.
Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
Golf has been more than just a sport to me, it has been a teacher of patience, resilience, and self improvement. The biggest life lesson I have learned through golf is the importance of perseverance in the face of setbacks. Unlike many other sports, golf is a solitary game where every mistake is magnified, and there are no teammates to pick up the slack. Success on the course depends entirely on my own ability to adapt, recover, and keep moving forward, no matter how many times I fall short. During a tournament in my junior year of high school; I had been practicing for months, determined to improve my swing and lower my handicap. On the morning of the tournament, I felt confident and ready. However, things did not go as planned. By the fifth hole, I had already double bogeyed twice and found myself in a sand trap more times than I could count. Frustration started to set in, and for a moment, I considered giving up or just coasting through the rest of the round. But then I remembered something my coach once told me: “Every shot is a new opportunity. Don’t let the last one define the next.” Taking a deep breath, I decided to reset my mindset. Instead of focusing on my mistakes, I concentrated on each shot as its own challenge. I visualized my target, trusted my preparation, and swung with intention. Gradually, my game improved. I managed to birdie the 12th hole ,my first of the day, and finished the round stronger than I started. While I didn’t win the tournament, I walked away with something far more valuable, the understanding that perseverance and a positive mindset can turn any setback into a comeback. This lesson of perseverance is one I plan to carry with me throughout my future, both on and off the golf course. In academics, there will be times when I struggle with a difficult subject or receive a disappointing grade. In my future career, there will be projects that don’t go as planned or goals that seem out of reach. By applying the mindset I developed through golf focusing on the present moment, learning from mistakes, and never giving up I am confident I can overcome any obstacle. Moreover, golf has taught me to remain calm under pressure and to approach challenges with a sense of curiosity rather than fear. Every round is different, every shot is unique, and every day brings new opportunities for growth. I plan to utilize these lessons by staying resilient in the face of adversity, maintaining a positive attitude, and always striving to improve, no matter the circumstances. Golf has taught me that success is not about perfection, but about persistence. The ability to persevere, adapt, and keep moving forward is the greatest lesson I have learned, and it is one that will guide me throughout every chapter of my life.
Arthur Walasek Computer Science Memorial Scholarship
What inspires me most to study computer science is the incredible opportunity to create something entirely new from the ground up. The process of programming and transforming a blank screen into a functional, interactive experience has always fascinated me. There is a unique sense of satisfaction that comes from seeing an idea gradually take shape through code, evolving from a mere concept in my mind to a product that others can use and enjoy. From a young age, I was captivated by technology and the endless possibilities it offers. However, it was not until I began programming that I truly understood the power of computer science. The ability to solve complex problems, automate tasks, and build applications that can impact people’s lives is both empowering and inspiring. What drives me further is the chance to help or satisfy my community through my creations. Whether it is developing an entertaining video game or designing an app that makes daily life easier, I am motivated by the prospect of making a positive difference in the lives of others. One of the most significant inspirations in my journey has been my personal project of creating video games. Three years ago, I began this journey with little more than curiosity and a desire to learn. Since then, I have developed multiple games, each one a new challenge that pushed me to expand my skills and think creatively. Sharing these games with friends, family, and online communities has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing others enjoy what I have built, hearing their feedback, and watching them engage with my work has solidified my passion for computer science. This journey has taught me more than just technical skills. It has instilled in me a sense of perseverance, as debugging and refining a project can be a long and sometimes frustrating process. It has also taught me the importance of collaboration, as working with others often leads to better solutions and more innovative ideas. Most importantly, it has sparked my ambition to pursue computer science as a career, where I can continue to learn, grow, and contribute to the field. Looking forward, I see myself working in the area of software development, with a particular focus on game design and interactive applications. This field excites me because it combines creativity with technical expertise, allowing me to bring stories, worlds, and experiences to life. I am also interested in exploring how technology can be used to solve real world problems, such as developing apps that improve health, education, or accessibility. In conclusion, my inspiration to study computer science comes from a deep seated desire to create, innovate, and make a difference. The journey so far has been challenging but incredibly fulfilling, and I am eager to continue exploring the endless possibilities that computer science offers. I am confident that, with hard work and dedication, I can contribute meaningfully to the field and help shape the future through technology.
