Growing up, I learned that there is no single way to be Indian. My mother is from Neyyattinkara, Kerala, while my father is from Kollemcode, Tamil Nadu. Although the two towns are geographically close, they represent different languages, traditions, cuisines, and cultures. Experiencing both sides of my family gave me a unique appreciation for India's diversity and taught me to value different perspectives from an early age. My father's story has had the greatest impact on who I am today. He grew up in poverty in India and experienced financial hardships that limited many opportunities throughout his childhood. Through determination and sacrifice, he built a better life for our family in the United States. Hearing about the obstacles he overcame instilled in me a deep appreciation for education and the understanding that opportunities should never be taken for granted. Whenever school became challenging, I reminded myself of the sacrifices my parents made to give me opportunities they never had. Their resilience motivated me to work hard, challenge myself academically, and pursue leadership opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Today, I am a Computer Information Technology student at Purdue University with a minor in Political Science, where I combine my interests in technology and public policy. I serve as the Chief Technology Officer for Purdue Student Government, conduct research on artificial intelligence governance through Purdue's Governance and Responsible AI Lab, work as a Head Teaching Assistant mentoring over 150 students, and am currently interning at Crowe in Privacy, Data Protection, and Compliance. My long-term goal is to build a career in AI governance and privacy, helping ensure emerging technologies are developed responsibly and ethically. Recently, my family's financial circumstances changed significantly. My father unexpectedly lost his job, and my mother is unable to work because of ongoing health challenges. As a result, I have been the only one working through my summer internship. It is not enough to cover the increasing cost of my education and living expenses without placing additional strain on my family. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my education and the research, leadership, and professional experiences that have prepared me for a career serving others through technology. More importantly, it would ease the financial burden on my family during a difficult period and allow me to remain focused on achieving the goals that my parents worked so hard to make possible.
