Being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease five years ago has had a significant impact on my life, shaping who I am and influencing both my educational and personal goals. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the digestive system, and living with it has required me to develop resilience, determination, and a strong sense of perseverance. While there have been many challenges along the way, my diagnosis has taught me valuable lessons about strength, adaptability, and the importance of pursuing my dreams despite obstacles. One of the most difficult aspects of living with Crohn’s disease is managing the ongoing treatment. Regular infusion appointments, daily medications, doctor visits, and unexpected flare-ups have become part of my routine. These treatments are necessary to help control my condition, but they can also be physically and emotionally draining. There have been times when I have missed activities, social events, or opportunities because I was not feeling well. The uncertainty of not knowing when a flare-up may occur can create stress and anxiety, especially because stress itself can trigger symptoms and make my condition worse. Despite these challenges, I have always wanted to feel as normal as possible and not allow Crohn’s disease to define me. I have worked hard to remain focused on my education and future goals. Living with a chronic illness has taught me how to manage my time effectively, advocate for myself, and remain committed even when circumstances are difficult. It has also given me a greater appreciation for my health and for the opportunities that I have to learn, grow, and succeed. As I prepare for college, I am determined to continue thriving academically while managing my health responsibly. I plan to pursue a degree in Computer Science because I am passionate about technology and the ways it can be used to solve problems and improve lives. Throughout my college years, I also hope to earn industry certifications, participate in internships, and gain hands-on experience that will prepare me for a successful career in the technology field. Beyond college, I hope to use my education and experiences to make a meaningful impact in my community and profession. My name is Demetrius Featherson Jr., and I am an honor roll student with a 3.4 GPA and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. I am currently preparing to graduate from Fairmont Heights High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland. I have proudly been accepted into Towson University, where I plan to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Technology has always interested me because of the way it impacts everyday life and creates opportunities for innovation. From communication and business to education and security, technology plays a major role in helping society grow and improve. My goal is to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible throughout college by earning I.T. certifications, participating in internships, and developing the technical skills needed to succeed in the technology industry.
