I have helped improve mental health in others by being a part of a mental health advocacy group that allows for peer-to-peer encounters that impact many students. I have been a part of this group for three years and throughout the time I have spent in it, I have noticed growth in not only myself but the people being impacted by it. We do many things for the school such as a care closet, having meetings with students, and doing fun things as well like selling puppy chow and hosting specialized basketball or football games to spread awareness and reduce mental health stigma. In the past three years, I myself have grown in my awareness of mental health and noticing the signs that people may be trying to hide. I have shifted more of my mind to be a helpful hand in people getting the help they are needing, which has impacted what I want to do in my life. I now want to study psychology in order to help more people get more help in their lives. In the past year through this group, I have taken on more of a leadership role. I have led more people to being a part of this club and made it my goal to put this club in the forefront of my life. I hope that in my life, I can make a change in how people see mental health. I hope to improve mental health by becoming a big advocate for reducing stigma and getting help. Getting help is one of the absolute hardest things to do when you feel like you are in a rut, so being the face and person that truly brings someone out of the hole they are in is something I strive to achieve. In my life, I have been truly impacted by someone reaching out to me when I was down and feeling very low. This person dragged me out of the deep, deep place I was in, and I am forever grateful that they looked deeply into the person I am to get me to where I am now. I will try my hardest to improve mental health by continuing my journey of reaching out to others and not being stuck in my own head but looking outside myself in order to do so. This impacts not only how I feel but how other people view me. The mental health stigma continues to grow if we do not do anything about it, so it is worth it to attempt to end the scariness of the words "getting help".
